Shutdown CBs DO exist!

Just played a great game against Stanford in year 2. My freshman CB, who has 99 man coverage and 95 speed (no edit, came in that way) just completely shut down their #1 WR, like a shutdown CB is supposed to. Now, Luck left for the draft for obvious reasons, but their new QB is still a very solid 85, and their #1 WR is a solid 88 both higher than my CB's 84, however, my CB's attributes make him a shutdown corner.

Just held their #1 to 2 catches, 1 yard, 1 pass deflection, and 2 interceptions (both user...my first user interceptions ever), with both catches (4 yards and -3 yards) coming in the 4th when the game was already decided.

May not seem like a big deal to most, but this is the first time I've seen a shutdown CB actually shut down a WR in a football video game.

I didn't even have to control the CB. The BIGGEST key to having your CB play to his rating is have him play off a bit and INSIDE, just like a real CB does in real life. Doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but it stops all those stupid quick slant routes, and lets the CB use the sideline to his advantage, like real football.

Only one game, but hoping my CB can have a season like Revis did in '09, shutting down lots of top WRs.

Champ Bailey Madden 08 or 09. He usually had more catches that the reciever he was guarding.

For CPU CBs, no, but for a CB on my team, yes.

For my Michigan team and my Arizona State team, my #1 CBs are both very much shutdown corners.

Re: Shutdown CBs DO exist!

What ranking was your recruit??

Those numbers seem way to high for a freshman.

It takes a couple of years in a college weightroom and a season or two learning technique to have a "99" man coverage rating.

Was he the number 1 CB in that years class or is he a redshirt Freshman???

Also what is his press rating? Thanks

Oh, sorry, his man coverage was 95, I just thought by his other ratings that he deserved a 99....actually, not really, I just bumped him up those 4 points so I didn't have to sim a year for him to be a 99 mcv. But he really did start with 95 speed and 95 mcv. Another CB from that class also had like 92 speed and 93 man coverage, while there's also 1-2 CBs #1 on my recruiting board (AA, might move up to Heisman if it gets too easy) that have "A" ratings for mcv.

My current CBs press was only like 76 or something like that, but I don't even press him, I just play off and inside and he's unstoppable.
