Recievers catching the ball 3 to 4 yards under their routes

I have had problems with recievers running drag or out routes that will lead them to first down yardage only to ilogically catch the ball 3 to 4 yrds under their route projectory. This never happens in real life. you would have to stop then pivot to make a catch like that. I put play in instant replay and noticed that the feild not the player will re-adjust itself so to make sure you dont recieve that necessary positve yardage. help? Routes were created to go up field not downfeild unless its a screen pass.
