How does awareness affect WRs?

I am short on wide receivers right now. As my #5 WR it will either be a scrambling backup QB who rates at a 76 overall at WR, but only 35 awareness. Or a TE that is a 75 overall, but with 51 awareness and is 9 points slower on speed and 12 on acc.

Re: How does awareness affect WRs?

When I was using Oklahoma State with Blackmon at WR, he'd actually run to open spots on the field after his route was over. One time when I was scrambling with Weeden inside the 10, Blackmon stopped his route short and actually came back to help Weeden so he didnt have to throw across the entire field. Easy TD. My moron WRs without great awareness usually would just keep running straight.

I noticed that with OSU as well, my better WR's would constantly run with Weeden or Chelf as a play broke down. Converted many a first down that way.

Awareness should also impact option routes (routes with the dotted lines) that are run based on coverage. When I had Blackmon, I ran a ton of RNS Option routes when he was on the solo side of a trips formation because he made perfect reads and beat his man every time. With lesser WR's, they almost always misread it.
