Any advantage to starting younger QB?

In offline dynasty, heading into fourth season and will choose between a senior QB 86 OVR or a sophomore QB 82 OVR. I like the idea of building my team around the sophomore, but was wondering if there was any reason why I should start him over the senior since I keep reading that playing time has no impact on progression.

Can anyone give me a reason for starting the soph? Thanks

Re: Any advantage to starting younger QB?

The only time it makes sense is when the skill set of the younger/lesser rated one fits better into your offensive scheme. I recently switched to a power run/option offense and ended up starting an 82 rated QB over my 87 rated QB because the 82 guy could run a bit while the 87 guy had 68 speed. They were both underclassmen, so it isn't quite the same dilemma you have.

If they both have similar skill sets for your offense, there really is no reason to not start the Senior, especially with how overblown home field advantage can get on younger guys in this game.

Thanks for the response. I've seen a lot of threads with ideas on how to incorporate playing time into progression, and it seems like it would be nice to get some realistic value for playing a younger kid.

In the real world, playing a younger QB gives him much-needed experience that will help him later as a junior or senior. That could translate into the game by having "awareness" increase more with playing time. I would also like to see another attribute called "composure", which would reflect how a players handles stressful situations (game on the line, 4th down plays, two-minute drills, bouncing back from a pick six, etc.). The more play time a player has, the higher his composure would be over time.

1) Higher career stats

2) Continuity at the QB position for 2-3 years.

3) Might fit better into your offense.

I'd like all of that too. I'd like some sort of system that creates situations where younger guys stake their claim to the starting position over an older guy. One of the threads on here a wild back asked for some sort of spring game or spring/fall camp and I know I posted asking for some sort of position battle where maybe young guys with a higher potential rating come in and dominate camp and overtake a senior.

These are reasons I would start a freshman over an upperclassman. Also, for realism or storyline purposes. If I'm a new 1st year coach, I might want to start "my guys" over the incumbents.

Which is exactly why this is one of the biggest flaws of the game. Players don't progress relative to production and playing time, rather just an arbitrary number every season.

I'm playing as the Gators right now I have Driskel and Brantley subbing in and out of games on heisman. The major difference is crowd intensity but when you know what the controls of the wr's are it's no problem. Only on the road is when it changes.
