Re: Recruiting Gem Tips

Who was the guy who was going to post the recruiting tips? This thread has turned from a Recruiting Gem tip thread to a "Here's the Gem I found" thread.

Here's the thread for posting your Gems that you found. http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ems-busts.html

Re: Recruiting Gem Tips

I think a good way to know who the 3 star players that are gems is to look at what teams are are going after him. If there are good/great schools, then most likely is a high gem.

I had this 3 star 63 OVR MLB on my board and I was 1st on the boards, so I never scouted him because MLB was a need. Then the next week, ALA passed me to be #1. So, I scouted that MLB and he became a 74(+11) Gem. Now I am trying to recruit him like crazy. But, he is from ALA and has a Soft Commit

Gems come all over. Some may have BCS schools after him, some may not. Some may be 1 or 4 or any stars. I don't think there is a way to find them. You just have to scout and get some luck.

I've had BCS teams land a bust and I've has gems go completely untouched

I found that this chart helps if the letter grades aren't correlating.

Also to clarify what each is for.....
40: is the speed rating
BNCH: is the str rating
SQT-S: is tackle for defense and break tackle for offense, this is skill players.
SQT-L: is tackle for defense and run block for offense, this is lineman and linebackers.

From what I saw, the 40 times presented are relatively accurate. If you look up a guys 40 on the chart, then if his letter grade for speed in his skills page is higher than the corresponding letter grade from the chart, he has a pretty good chance to see his speed increase after you scout him. As for bench press/strength I didn't really see a correlation. But for squat I saw the strongest correlation. It lines up nearly perfectly with a players tackling or run blocking rating after scouting. I had a different chart I was using when testing that didn't have the squat equivalents for skill players, so I can't confirm if those we're correct, but I think they're pretty close. I just found this chart this morning and it has separate squat numbers for skill players. Hope this helps.[/quote]

Re: Recruiting Gem Tips

The chart really has been accurate for what it says it does, right down to the exact number from what I've found.

One thing I've found (and I think it's been mentioned before) is that in using the chart that we provided, the recruits overall REALLY goes up if the letter grade is lower than the 40, squat or bench times. The 40 only corresponds to speed NOT acceleration so you might have a guy that's 95 speed and only 79 acceleration. The 40 should correspond to acceleration since that's what it's testing.

If the guys squat time (for example) corresponds to 85 tackle, but he's listed at a C or D grade in tackling, his overall will shoot up tremendously.

Also, this topic IS for hints and tips, not for guys you found that were gems. There's already a topic for that. Unless you have a hint or tip for how to get them.

The point about the major schools interested in three star recruits usually doesn't pan out. I've scouted a bunch of these guys have had an average amount of gems from them.

Re: Recruiting Gem Tips

Is it possible that scouting will reveal the true number attributes of the recruits? Let's say a lineman squats 745. Then, after scouting him, will his squat always be a 94? Or could the initial 745 be incorrect and his squat be an 88 after scouting? Revealing that he really can only squat 690.

From reading the previous two posts, it sounds like the letter grade is what fluctuates and not the rating (94) after scouting.

Re: Recruiting Gem Tips

What does bench rep in the players in D-Line and others? I know bench represents pass blocking for O-Line. What about D-Line? What about HBs?

Squat = tackling for D-Line
Bench = ? for D-Line

I don't think it is block shedding. I've seen very strong D-Line with crappy block shedding vice versa.

I'm trying to build a 3-4 defense so I need some big, fat run stuffing D-Linemen. I use to recruit strength (bench) but now I might switch to squat.

Bench press is the strength attribute
