Week vs West Virginia at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore (Friends of Coal Bowl) Comeback in Baltimore. Spoiler This was one of my best games ever. The first quarter-and-a-half was all WVU. They scored 17 quick points and I was almost ready to hit the panic switch. However late in the 2nd the offense and defense both started clicking. I made a 28-yard field goal with 2:40 in the second, then managed to get the ball back and score a touchdown with just 3 seconds left before halftime to cut WVU's lead to 7 (17-10). From then on, it was Marshall's ballgame. In the second half we scored two more TD's, and kept the Mountaineers from scoring, to claim a 24-17 victory. Rakeem Cato had a nice game throwing for 250 Yards, 2 TD's and 2 INT's and rushing for 93 yards and 1 TD. Freshman slot-receiver Jerod Fitzpatrick showed serious potential in his first college game with 7 receptions for 52 yards and 1 TD. vs #11 Louisville Too little, too late Spoiler The Cards dominated early and lead 17-3 at the half. Marshal managed to score 3 TD's (one with a 2-pt conversion), but UofL answered with two 2nd half TD's of their own. It came down to an onside kick for the Herd to have a chance, but Louisville recovered, and was able to kneel to run out the clock. Final score Cards 30 - Herd 25. Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater had a monster game: Passing: 14-23, 240 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT's Rushing: -11 yards (was sacked 4 times), but he ran in 3 goal line scores. Marshall's Rakeem Cato put up inconsistent, and it definitely hurt his Heisman stock. Passing: 24-41, 309 yards, 3 TD's, 2 INT's The one bright spot in the game was Freshman Slot-receiver Jerod Fitzpatrick. He is a STUD! Coach Martin got an absolute steal of a recruit here. Receiving stats: 13 Receptions, 202 yards, 2 TD's Marshall goes on the road to play Ohio in week 3. A win in this rivalry game would be a huge confidence boost for the Thundering Herd.

Cato goes down late, but Marshall survives in Athens!

This one was a nail-biter! Defense was key in this game, as only 10 total points were scored in the first half (Marshall TD; Ohio FG). Late in the 4th quarter, Marshall QB, Rakeem Cato was knocked out of the game with a bruised elbow. It was a nightmare scenario for the Herd, but they escaped and a 29-yard field goal by Justin Haig sealed the victory in regulation for Marshall.

Also, with inconsistent play, Rakeem Carto's Heisman hopes are starting to slip away.

I'm having fun as HC with Georgia State, 4-2 so far with blow out losses to WV and Alabama. And one of those wins was a 1 point win over an FCS. When you pull in a 70overall recruit and are extremely happy it's a nice feeling haha good challenge by far the worst team.

Marshall defeats rival ECU 41-17, but Cato's slump continues.

Yes it was the first home win of the year for the Herd, and it was over a rival, and we are now 3-1, but I'm ticked off. Rakeem Cato won't stop throwing INT's (it's my fault, but still). He threw 4 in this game!!! I would have benched him by now, but he is 91 OVR and my backup is only 76 OVR so I don't think I have that option. *End Rant*

Oh well, at least our defense is playing spectacularly. They haven't allowed more than 30 points in a game this season, and their Opposing PPG is only

Also freshmen Jerod Fitzpatrick (slot-receiver), and Vohntae Johnson (free safety) are proving to be huge steals. Through 4 games, Fitzpatrick already has 45 receptions for 603 yards (average of 150 yards per game) and 5 TD's. Johnson leads the team with 3 pass deflections, and has 1 INT (it was a 75 yard pick six against ECU), 8 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. These two young men will have a strong impact on the Marshall football program over the next 4 years.

It's now week five, and the 3-1 Thundering Herd host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for each team's first game in conference play. The herd have shown tremendous improvement and potential, and hopefully they can make a strong run at a C-USA championship!

Spoiler Of course UTSA just won the NC and no matter what upset the balance of power. They started the season off with taking down Texas and gained national attention from there. It'll be interesting to see how the rebound next year! Man, how the mighty have fallen. OU, Texas, Alabama, tOSU, USC, LSU, FSU had amazing seasons but all fell short of being THE team. As they look to rebound for the next season they'll have to live with low level teams thinking they can compete with the big dogs. UTSA has officially received two invites from BIG12 and SEC as it looks they'll be joining the BIG12 in two more years. HC Mack is urging the AD to take that instead of the SEC and with him bringing national championships to the table it'd be wise to listen. Look to see the amazing season of college football next season!

As UTSA prepares for another season they were informed after this season they will opt out of their last year in C-USA and move on to the BIG12. This news has fans excited to win C-USA a third straight year and take on the BIG12!

This new team looks even better than last year. With the incoming freshman coming in and looking to start and make immediate impact when the season starts. Superstar Pete Douglas returns bigger and faster than ever before as he's been placed on the early Heisman watch list!

UTSA opens up against #11 Texas as they did last season in a neutral site game. Then they'll go off and face Tulsa and let the season roll from there. If they can upset Texas again this season they'll be thrusted into the rankings once again!
