Sounds like you need to figure out 3-5 players you want. Figure out how many points you are winning by and spend 3500 pts MINUS your lead on those players..

i.e. if you are up by 1000, a 2500 spend should be sufficient 90% of the time.
if you are down by 1000, a 4500 spend should be sufficient 90% of the time.
IF you are tied, a 3500 spend should be sufficient 90% of the time.

Thoughts? That's what I did and I got both my players that I tried this with.

So, either the CPU puts in under 3500 points or they go all in... nothing in between?

It varies. Sometimes they put 1700. Usually it depends on how high level the coach is because the higher level coaches have more points.

Right, but do they ever put in more than 3500, but less than all in (10k-15k)? For example... 4600 or 5500..?

Never seen that happen yet but I think its possible if the CPU had only 2 or 3 'needs' to fill.

From what I understand, you are saying that, with the exception of going all in, you have not seen any CPU team spend more than 3500 on a player?

So if I do what fletchccc suggested and spend 3500 pts minus my lead/plus my deficit on each player I'm after I should be safe, as long as they don't go all in?

I think so.

I really don't know because last night I somehow lost a player I had a 1000 point lead on and I gave way more points then the 2nd place team.

It might just be a huge crap shoot this year with no patterns or math involved. I really don't know anymore. I was leading by 1000 points, I gave him 3000 points and the 2nd place team gave 2000 and somehow got the recruit. There is a coach skill that lets you have a small chance at stealing the recruit from the top school.. maybe it was that.

Re: Interesting information about CPU offseason recruiting logic

In my most recent offseason, I had a small defecit on all the players (less than 1000 points, mostly less than 500). I used 3500 on four guys and 1000 on a 5th. I got one of the guys I gave 3500 to, and another who I have nothing to.
