Expanding the Big 12 in my Dynasty

I am about to begin Year 6 (2018) in my Dynasty and I am setting it up to where all BCS Conferences (AAC, ACC, B1G, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC). It's time for the Big 12 to expand without poaching from the ACC. I've decided that the 11th member will be New Mexico. The 12th member will either be BYU or Rice. I'm torn between divisional alignments between the two and need some help.

Here are the list of the 13 schools (the current ten, New Mexico, BYU and Rice):
*-Denotes BCS Bowl Appearance
**-Denotes Conference Champion
***-National Champion
Team (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017-in progress):
Baylor (7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 9-4, 4-6)
BYU (7-6, 7-6, 6-6, 6-7, 6-5)
Iowa State (1-11, 3-9, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4)
Kansas (7-6, 3-9, 3-9, 1-11, 4-6)
Kansas State (9-4, 9-4, 6-7, 5-7, 5-5)
New Mexico (2-10, 5-7, 3-9, 3-9, 6-5)
Oklahoma (10-3, 9-4, 8-5, 11-2, 8-5, 6-4)
Oklahoma State (8-5, 6-7, 6-7, 4-8, 6-4)
Rice (7-5, 4-8, 4-8, 4-8, 1-10)
TCU (7-6, 10-3, 10-3, 8-5, **10-0)
Texas (**12-1, ***12-1, ***12-1, **12-1, 6-4)
Texas Tech (7-6, 3-9, 4-8, 3-9, 6-4)
West Virginia (7-6, 6-6, 8-5, 10-3, 7-6, 2-8)

If OU and Texas are split, they will be locked rivalries.
Same goes with KU-KSU, OKST-OU, and TCU-BU

Alignment 1: (New Mexico and Rice)
North - Iowa St., Kansas, Kansas St., Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., W. Virginia
South - Baylor, New Mexico, Rice, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU

Alignment 2: (New Mexico and Rice)
East - Iowa St., Kansas, Oklahoma St., Rice, TCU, W. Virginia
West - Baylor, Kansas St., New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech

Alignment 3: (BYU and New Mexico)
North - Iowa St., Kansas, Kansas St., Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., W. Virginia
South - Baylor, BYU, New Mexico, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU

Alignment 4: (BYU and New Mexico)
East - Iowa St., Kansas, Kansas St., Oklahoma St., TCU, W. Virginia,
West - Baylor, BYU, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech

What should I do?

If BYU is chosen, I will move UTEP to the MW to replace UNM and Rice back to C-USA from the AAC and replace Rice with UMASS.

If Rice is is chosen, AAC will replace them with UMASS and UNM is replaced by UTEP, and UTEP is replaced is by Texas State in C-USA.

Balancing the divisions and splitting up the likes of Texas and OU (etc) are what I do when I move teams around. I think geographical alignment is much less important.

Personally, I like your first Alignment the best. There's no way BYU would join the Big 12. If they joined any BCS conference it would be the Pac-12.

I did kind of the same thing in my dynasty except I used Tulane instead of Rice and Arkansas State instead of New Mexico. Both of those schools won conference titles and were looking good prestige wise when I did it in 2021 or so.

I would use Tulane but they have averaged three wins a season and barely have eclipsed an overall 73.

I only added Rice to the AAC because I didn't want Navy (wanted to be traditional with Army, Navy, ND as independents)

I'm starting to notice that in the B1G when I added RU and Maryland, but the East has been top-heavy the first three years. The West has been Nebraska and a cloud of dust, with Iowa or Wisconsin coming in second, but at 8-4 or 7-5.

I want to split up OU-Texas for competitiveness, because I don't want a loaded south and an overrated team (WVU in 16, KSU in 17) to start off 4-0 or 5-0, then lose four or five in a row with two to mediocre teams.

Re: Expanding the Big 12 in my Dynasty

This is what I did personally.

- Swap Louisville to ACC for Maryland, move Maryland to B1G.
- Swap West Virginia to ACC for Louisville - 1.) because all of W. Virginia's rivals are in the ACC, and 2.) Louisville was rumored to join the Big 12 in real life before they decided on the ACC.)
- Move BYU to Big 12 (rumored to have been considered for membership in real life a few years back).
- Move Houston to Big 12 (Houston alumni petitioned for this a while back).

There you have it.. reasonable, easy to explain realignments and they use real life rumors/plans as foundation.

In the end you'll have..

Big 12 North: Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, BYU, Louisville, Oklahoma State
Big 12 South: Texas, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma

Oh yea, I split the Oklahoma schools using an imaginary line dead through the heart of Oklahoma for geographic alignment purposes.

I have the ACC, SEC, Pac-12, B1G and BigXII as they will be in 2014. So I would look at adding Boise St., BYU, Houston, Tulsa or even ND.

Re: Expanding the Big 12 in my Dynasty

I'm in year 14 and my BIG12 looks like this. The teams prestige is in parenthesis.

(DIV A)

TCU (3)
Kansas State (2)
Boise State (3)
Oklahoma State (3)
Oklahoma (5)
Wyoming #1 (6)

(DIV B)
SMU (4)
Nebraska #15 (4)
Baylor (1)
Texas (4)
BYU (1)
Texas A&M #10 (5)

Once teams get to 1 star prestige I start looking to move them out. Last year I kicked out West Virginia for Nebraska. Texas Tech got replaced by SMU. I will probably move in Houston next year and replace either Baylor or BYU. I try to pay attention to geography a lot when I move teams around. Its the only reason I haven't joined the SEC.
