Offensive Coordinator

So I'm pretty sure I want to start a dynasty as an offensive coordinator, but I'm having a bit of a dilemna. I want to make it as realistic as possible as far as which playbook to use, my own? Or the default head coach's?

How do u guys approach this? I guess it could be different depending on the HC if it's a defensive guy vs an offensive guy (ie Sumlin).

Any input would be great, thanks!

Re: Offensive Coordinator

When I start as an OC I use the head coaches book. It's the head coaches team, I work for him, so I just use what he gives me. Once I get my own head coaching spot I use my own playbook.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

My rule as the OC was to always use the default playbook. If you go to Navy, you are gonna be expected to run the option. I'm working my way up to head coach, when I will actually let myself a little more freedom with schemes.

Honestly, you are doing yourself a disservice if you want to switch schools regularly and don't adopt new philosophies. It's challenging at first to learn a new style, but you become a better player. I despised running out of the air raid, but in year three I nearly topped 2,000 with my running back.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

I agree with the above comments but you are hired as a coordinator. If they didn't want your brand, they would call their own plays. I have 3 off playbooks:
Multiple- covers all facets. Double wing, ace, I, shotgun and heavy.
Pro- ace, I forms, shotgun
Gun- all gun all day
Gotta take a look at the team you are committing to and find what works best

Re: Offensive Coordinator

I'd say it depends. If your Head Coach is an offensive-minded head coach, then use his playbook. If it's a defensive minded head coach then it would make sense that he's going to let you run your stuff.
