I have seen this happen a few times once you get 5+ years in. I just play it off as the other teams were on probation for NCAA violations. Just my simple observation here but when I have seen a team leap frog another with better record, the team that got to play in the championship games were ranked higher to start the season. I see 3-4 lose teams in the top 10 all the time when teams with better records never advance. An example is in my UGA dynasty that is in year 2026, USC is 0-3 and ranked #21. They started the season ranked #3 but each lose only drops them several spots when LSU is 4-0 but in the others receiving votes. LSU started the season ranked #67 but has beat 2 ranked teams.

I noticed the same thing going on with Army and Navy where loses are not held equal. I think it may be more across the board where a team that starts high can stay higher due to how loses are weighed in the game.

I've seen this issue pop up a lot over the years; it appears that overall record is the first tiebreaker (and not divisional record) particularly in conferences that weren't coded on disc as having divisions.
