Re: Wingbone formation

I used Army in a short-lived OD long ago, and it was hard to run at first, even for someone like me who ran the option consistently on older games.

Once you learn the reads it's not so bad though, and there are tons of options as to how you can balance the carries in the Army PB. With the need for fullbacks you can focus to either a power run game with them, the outside run game with the slot backs, or a mix of the two.

Re: Wingbone formation

Previously, I ran an option-based offense from the shotgun. Seeking novelty, I developed this playbook based on the concept of a spinning QB. The majority of snaps are taken from under center. That was quite a departure from normalcy but with some practice, I have adjusted.

I have noticed in a variety of formations, some option plays--and any play type, really--can develop slowly or not at all, contextually independent of the defensive activity. I have not rigorously researched this issue nor have I noticed it occurring more frequently for a specific play, formation, defensive set, or combination thereof.

I have noticed that on some sets such as Wingbone Normal or Wishbone Tight, there is unrealistic congestion at the line. I am not referring to defensive pressure, because that does occur, as it should. More so, it's as if there is insufficient spacing between the OLineman and players moving in the backfield. For instance, HB/FB/motion-man will run into the OL en route to a blocking assignment and just keeping running in place against the OLineman's back. In other instances, however, run-gaps will open and close before the ball is even handed off. Although this does happen in vivo, it appears unrealistic in many instances in the game.

Re: Wingbone formation

Love the flex, not a big fan of the wingbone.

Some of the triple option plays do not have a dive key so thats a nice way to force the fb give without having to make a read.

Speed sweep (jet sweep) from trips over is pretty good, I may have the name of the formation wrong but its the sweep to the weak side.

Those are really the only two plays run from wingbone and i use them sparingly.

If your having problems with plays in the flex hitting too slow, stop running triple option and the other options so much and focus on mastering midline. Midline qb iso NOT midline triple. Fasting hitting option play in existence and it is MONEY in this game.
