I think I've found the best way to get conferences tied closely by location and rivalries. Also creation of true power conferences. Every week in the Big Ten, Pac 12, and the SEC there will be big games. ACC and Big XII are not quite at that elite level, but still some very good teams.

With its tradition, Notre Dame is the only team I really like as an independent (outside perhaps of the service academies).

For the teams leaving the ACC, Miami's only rival is Virginia Tech, Florida State has a lopsided one with Virginia, Clemson with NC State, and Georgia Tech has Virginia Tech. With their moves to the SEC all four of these teams could schedule an out of conference game with their rivals, making for an ACC vs SEC bragging rights situation.
