Football Rules Question

Ok, my friend was playing my brother yesterday, UVA @ FSU (he's UVA).

In the fourth quarter, UVA scores a TD and goes up by one, and chooses correctly to go for two. UVA runs up the middle and fumbles. FSU's MLB recovers on the run and tries to take it out of the end zone. As soon as he leaves the end zone, he too fumbles the ball back into the end zone. FSU then falls on the ball in their end zone. UVA is rewarded one point for a "defensive conversion".

Now, does the "defensive conversion" really exist (in which case I was never aware of it), or is this some strange glitch?

Re: Football Rules Question

heh. It's probably one of those rules buried somewhere that is rarely if ever used.

Well..

According to the NCAA rulebook, since FSU would have fumbled, and recovered in their endzone, it is technically a safety.

The rulebook says that a safety on a "try" is one point.

Successful Try:
Touchdown.................................2 Points
Field Goal or Safety..................1 Point
