Speed Blitzing... your thoughts?

Played a season game earlier in a "sim" league and someone did this...

Do you guys consider this sim? Fair? Don't care?

For clarification, it's when a player takes either LB or DL and blitzes using the speed burst button AROUND the OL on the outside corners. The OL usually can not pick up players properly and fall back either making the QB pocket unrealistically small or not picking up the player altogether.

Thoughts?

I think it depends. Did he shift the Linebacker way outside the tackles? Because if he's shifting his linebacker like that and does it all the time, it doesn't seem very sim-like. It seems like random cheese play online.

I would think you could run some draws to try to beat that or just run to off the tackle to that side. Problem is unlike real life, things don't always work as they should to counter those type of plays.

Well this was actually done by using the DE. It's one thing when you actually go through the blockers... it's another when you speed rush completely around the CPU OL, never actually "engaging" him... and that's what this guy was doing...

My problem with it is that then I would have to play unrealisticly as well. Usually, you'd just drop back 20 or so yards.. but then things start getting messy... and the fun is lost. (IMO)

doing it with a DE is total cheese, but my opinion is if he has a LB or DB on a blitz, and his DE is matched up with the farthest out guy on your line, then you have a direct shot at the QB, so it's not cheese. You better have a RB back to block, otherwise you don't have anyone to pick him up.

*Edit - Only actual linebacker blitzes where the OLB is meant to blitz...I think it'd be cheese to keep audibling to that, or just manually making a LB blitz, when it's not called for. Just wanted to point out that if you make a good call on D sometimes a LB does get at the QB untouched

This is why I pefer to play where you can only control an interior lineman and on offense you can't switch to the receivers until after the catch. This way the game plays out more on the players ability to call the right plays, etc. Than on cheese.

Absolutely! I completely agree with this assessment. If you take your LB and rush the outside, then it's the other guy's duty to make sure a RB is in to block... even then, I still wouldn't do it all game, b/c you KNOW a LB does not blitz every single defensive play...

yeah, you shouldn't do it all the time, that'd be like running the same play over and over, just cheese...

Also though, if someone does that to you, just have a reciever on a slant move into the spot left by the blitzing linebacker, chances are that reciever would be open
