It's now 2020

I predict sometime this decade the NCAA will finally give a ruling opening the door to a new NCAA game.

not w/o a NCAA student-athlete union they won't.the ball is not in EA's court or the NCAA's, the ball is in student-athlete's court. the first step must be theirs.

I think the NCAA will find a way around that. For example MLB the Show now has real minor league players in the game despite the fact there is no player's union for minor league players.

My guess is NCAA will rule players can be compensated for their image and EA Sports will work through the conferences and schools to get an agreement signed by each athlete.

Yep, this right here. I fully expect this. I could see the NFLPA getting involved in some capacity to help drive something that helps facilitate players capitalizing on their likeness. I don't believe the game coming back is at all tied to a players union among collegiate athletes.
