World Cup Eligible teams - anyone have a list?

After a long quest to build up some quality Canadian players and getting the offer to coach them...2022 world cup rolls around and I get no qualifying games the 3 seasons prior and am excluded from the competition. Argh. Needless to say I'm a bit annoyed....enough so that I'm ditching my current team and starting a new CM.

I like to heavily scout and build up from 1 target nation that I intend to coach with the goal of not only taking over my league but also having a few of my key players be a part of a world cup run. With that in mind I'm doing some research first this time before restarting.

Does anyone have a list of which international teams are eligible for the world cup in FIFA 16? I'm not worried about if they qualify (or are decent) for WC 2018 as I will target a 2022 run anyways.

Bonus points if you happen to know which teams have annual competitions as well as true WC qualifiers as that is what I'd love to manage.

^Those countries automatically Qualify based on Star Rating.

What they SHOULD do is have Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cameron and South Africa in their own "Africa Qualifying Block".

Additionally, instead of dumping USA into South America qualifying, they should add one more "CONCACAF" region team( perhaps Costa Rica or Honduras based on last Wprld Cup) to go along with Canada, USA and Mexico.

This is exactly what worries me about my CM. I'm in November of 2016 managing Notts County and the USA and don't want to somehow get left out of the World Cup in 2018, because honestly I like the international game more. I did go back and look and the USA won the "South America Cup" before I took the job back in 2015, so hopefully that qualified them for Russia. Lol I'm gonna be pissed if I get to June 2018 and have no games scheduled.

You say that the US automatically qualifies, but I took over as manager in either 2019 in my career and I never got to play any qualifying games and I was not a part of the 2022 WC.

Just a few thoughts based on others comments in this forum.


1. In my career with Canada, I automatically qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. I played nothing but friendlies for the 2 years before the tournament.


2. For some reason Russia didn't automatically qualify for 2018, probably because EA didn't code it in. In the FIFA games before the 2014 World Cup, Brazil automatically qualified, so this shouldn't be a problem.


3. I have no idea if this had any effect on qualifying or not, but I won most of my games before the tournament. The only games I remember losing were to Germany (essentially their B team), and I think Italy.


4. The problem everyone seems to be complaining about is qualification for 2022, not 2018.


5. I'm now worried all my effort will be put into a nation that won't qualify for the World Cup in 2022, no matter how well I play.


6. Mexico was one of the other Confederations Cup nations.

Just a few thoughts based on others comments in this forum.

I have seen 2 theories on this one - either it is just a random EA roll for 2/3 concacaf teams (US/Mexico/Canada) or it is based on OVR. Given that I have seen a decent amount of folks say Canada has made it, even in 2018, makes me believe it is just random. In my previous save I'm pretty sure in 2022 my CAN team was a higher OVR than US...and I doubt anyone had a better CAN OVR in 2018 unless they did some serious editing.

I am pretty sure this has no effect as in my save I won most friendlies in the 2 years up to 2022 and still didn't qualify.

If someone were to watch the dates and save carefully - they may be able to figure out what day they pick the teams and re-roll as required until they are qualified. HOPEFULLY that is the day the tables are generated and you could see this easily. I was going to try this but unfortunately when I checked my saves my oldest already had the WC groups picked.

So I exited out and entered my career mode again to give it another try. Simmed to May 1, 2018 and this time I DID qualify. Sitting in Group F with Germany, Scotland, and Egypt. Canada did not make it this time and Mexico/USA were the 2 CONCACAF teams.

SO...just make sure you save your career on April 30th every World Cup year, and see if you made it come May 1st. If you didn't, just exit and "re-roll" starting on April 30th again. Hope this helps!

I decided to try the same experiment, and got the same results. 2/3 CONCACAF teams make the World Cup with no particular reason why those two teams are selected. May 1 is the date you need to watch for to see if your CONCACAF nation makes the World Cup, or to just redo the draw if you are managing a European/ South American/ Asian/ African nation if you do not like your World Cup group.

Damn wish I knew this a week ago - also took over Canada and didn't "qualify" for 2018 (but had to select a squad and everything)

At least I know for 2022 now

Whoa that's crazy. If they're going to do it that way, they could've at least coded it so the user team is always one of the CONCACAF nations that qualify.
