Is fifa 20 passing the worst ever?

I’ve had it. I’ve absolutely had it with this game. I can’t believe I haven’t broken a controller, yet. Lol. Fifa has always been plagued with bad passing, but this year seems like the worst ever. Every time I try to make a safe pass to a teammate 5 yards away from me, I aim at that player and tap the A button for a soft, short pass, and what happens? My player blasts a long ground ball to a player 50 yards away and it either gets intercepted or the player is offside. Either way, I lose possession. The real rub here is that I WAS NOT TRYING TO PASS TO THAT GD PLAYER!!!!

How about trying to kick a nice through pass to a running teammate? I aim in that direction, leading the player, I give it the right power and . . . It passes to the player who’s offside instead. What a surprise. Instead of passing to the player who almost assuredly score a goal due to my fabulous football vision, strategy, and timing, I lose possession yet again.

To all the people I’ve played lately who I’ve lost to due to this passing issue, wth are u doing to pass properly that I am not? Because, I don’t notice others having as much of a problem. And, don’t say, ‘manual passing,’ because that’s even more heinous.

I have absolutely hit a brick wall with this game. And, understand, I don’t consider myself a pro, but I’ve been playing this game for over a decade and I’ve always handled myself quite well. In fifa 20, i was cruising to division 3, and had some ups and downs, and now, all of a sudden, it’s loss after loss after loss due to this poor passing. I’m fighting the game more than the players. And, to the players that have beaten me recently, I don’t think you’re bad players, but when my team won’t pass the ball properly, and u get a ridiculous fast break out of nothing, it’s kind of hard for me to compete.

And, how about the tackling? This new concept of having the AI do pretty much nothing is quite annoying, actually. I don’t want my teammates to do everything. And, in fact, I prefer to make the tackles and I play a fairly aggressive style of play constantly trying to force the action. But, when I chase a player and trap him switching back and forth between 2 players, if he makes a bad pass out of it, I kind of need that 3rd teammate to simply make the easy steal. I can’t switch into everybody all the time. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

And, the ability to steal? Wtf is going in this game? As I said, earlier, I was cruising to division 3. I won a few titles along the way. I’m now relegated to division 6 after numerous losses that all play out the same way. The cpu makes bad passes to players who I’m not even trying to pass to. Often, when this happens, my opponent gets a fast break goal. This is nonsense. I’ve had enough. And, the steals. I’m constantly in perfectly fine position for a steal, but when I go for it, I either knock it away, and they retain possession, or my player makes a goofy animation, and somehow my entire D gets out of position?

And, how is every player I’m against faster than every player on my team? Lol. I swear, I play with Che, and Willian and pulisic are pretty fast. I normally outrun people with them. But, this run I’m having, it’s like no one has any speed anymore.

To end this rant, it’s just killing me. I’ve enjoyed fifa for years. It’s one of the few games I enjoy actually playing against another person. Specifically, when it comes to sports games. Madden is horrible online and has been for years. But, fifa, with fifa, u can always get a decent game here and there. I usually win more than I lose. But, taking the losses where someone actually beats me with football strategy are few and far between. While I’m working my A off fighting the bad passes of my teammates, I’m actually still creating fabulous looking goal opportunities. I still love making great overall team goals. But, every goal I give up is someone just turboing past my D (even though my D WAS in position), or the ball just bounces their way while my players look absolutely amateurish with no ability to steal the ball. Or, my player makes a ridiculously bad pass that leads to a fast break goal. It’s absolutely rubbish.

Anyways, to any who read this, thanks for reading. Lol. I had to vent somehow, this game has me in absolute fits right now. I’ve never had quite the losing streak, and it’s killing me the way this game is playing. It’s otherwise a fine fifa product and in many ways, is the best one yet. But, there is something in the passing that just doesn’t work for me. And, as such, I may have to give up the game. I don’t think my blood pressure can handle it. lol.

Yes, I completely agree with pretty much everything you're saying here about the complete and utter BS fifa has become recently. I mirror your stats except I was in Div 2 with a record of something like 90-15-65 but now I'm in Div 6 (by the skin of my teeth) and my record sits at 100-20-115 since the latest patch / update that auto installed where they said about passing and shooting.

Every game consists of seven or eight laughable passes and questionable refereeing decisions, like a yellow card for the opposition when their last defender takes out my attacker (or nothing at all, or if the defender is on a yellow, then he gets a stern talking too from the ref) yet if I make a full frontal block by way of a slide (despite getting the ball first), I see red.

I tend to screen grab all the BS that goes on but the trouble is, it's filling up my hard drive as there is so much of it recently.

The worst thing about the passing is when you've cut through their defence and you're laying a simple ball across the box for a tap in. I would say that this results in a hilarious fail about two out of three times. It's a joke. I would like to know people's controller settings or team setup because I used to enjoy good battles with like minded people with similar win percentages to me but recently I am getting spanked by people in lower divisions with win percentages that are, quite honestly, embarrassing. I mean, fair play to them if they've bothered to go in and tweak absolutely every setting possible but I haven't got the time or patience for that - I would just like to play it pretty much out of the box (as I have been) and enjoy it again.

It's all scripted. Gotta keep the bad players around and buying the game year after year. How many posts and miraculous saves? How many 45+' or 90+' goals? All on top of the bogus passing that you mentioned. Pointing in complete opposite direction of where they make the pass go quite often in this trash game. Used to be a great game.

It happens a lot to me too, I just tap it and my player does a horrible horizontal pass through the field which opens me to a counter attack

Defending and tackling are one of the biggest issues for me. I feel like I really have to hold circle for a second for my player to tackle, but by that time the timing is off and they just tackle the air. I've found that double tapping circle helps to get the tackle right. Also my jockey seems very slow compared to the opponent's, if they are good when they do running jockey they cover 10x10 yards and even if they miss a tackle they are already back on my player and they are so fast they look like crabs on acid

I've been wondering this too. Even if I managed a through pass for Douglas Costa (95 pace...), defenders like Lenglet (75 pace...) always catch up and go through my player as if he's not there even if I'm smashing R2. While if one of my opponent's striker go past my defense, it's over, I never catch up even with somewhat fast defenders.


Also the entire thing feels scripted from minute 1, you can usually tell when a player is going to win as they win all rebounds while I have had up to 15 shots on goal, 4 posts (with controller on the wall) and 1 goal, with the opponent's keeper (usually Lloris) flying all over the place at the speed of sound, while they got away with a few shots on goal and 2 goals, usually after a lucky rebound.
