That usually happens when you're double-pressing the pass button. If you're pressing pass while the ball is traveling, your player will pass it the moment he receives the ball.
So in the spirit of the thread, can anyone give pointers as to where to aim the target on corners and/or long free kicks? Should it be on a player or in a region?
Also, with headers from set pieces, is there a trick to not send them flailing over the bar? I rarely get a header on target.
*I use Semi for pretty much everything, header assistance off, Pro/World Class difficulty...since answers may be settings dependent*
Thanks!

I usually aim for a spot, then user control a play to get to that spot.

L1+R1, shoot (idk what it is for what you’re playing. My shoot and lob is reversed) will drive the header down.

Up to you, you can aim for a player or for an area and attack the space with a player manually. The most goals tend to come from aiming towards your centre backs around the middle of the goal from around 8-10 yards out. I like to vary, deep corners to the back post and head back across goal, look for near post flick ons etc, I use the d-pad for instructions for every corner. As for the headers themselves, timing is the most important thing.
Thanks for the answers and comments! Hopefully others will pop in and ask questions as well. I've played FIFA over two decades and always have fun, but the deep controls are intimidating.

Intimidating?
When I grew up the joystick moved in one of eight directions and there was one red button. I looked at a diagram of the controls for one of the Star Wars games...yeah, right.
