L-Stick = "Bursts" or "Hold It"
Let's say I am trying to move left to right (with the ball / on offense) ...
Which is better:
(a) Hold the L-Stick right.
(b) "Pulse" the L-Stick right in small bursts.
It appears to me that, when controlling an offensive player, the player seems to have some inertia (like a hockey player on skates) - and it is not required to continuously hold the L-Stick ... the player will still smoothly move left to right.
The advantage of the "pulses" (it seems) is that ...
(1) The CPU lays back a little more on defense / I am not immediately tackled.
(2) My offensive player is more "under control" (for passing / shooting / changing direction).
Does anyone agree with this? Is this just in my head?

I am currently playing (struggling) at Semi-Pro with all MANUAL. (My recent switch to all MANUAL has led to my temporary reduction down to Semi-Pro.)
