Aiming Free Kicks & Shots

When it comes to aiming free kicks....

Do I need to aim with the left stick and hold it in the position I want it before I hit the shoot button or while I'm measuring out the power of the shot...

I know the left stick aims the shot, but I'm just confused while I'm trying to hold up on the left stick to shoot the free kick high...it also changes the aim of the camera which tends to be annoying..

When you aim a free kick it will shoot whichever way you have it set up. If you continue to point it at the goal it adds topspin, if you point away from goal it adds backspin, left or right adds a curve to it.

But am I choosing that direction before I choose the power on the shot or during I'm choosing the power?

You choose direction of the kick before kicking, you choose spin of the ball while kicking, you pray while it is in the air, you celebrate when you score

...and when you miss (which, if you're like me, you will), you scream loud
obscenities and then grip your controller really tight!

You can also hold down the R1 button (not sure of the X-Box equivalent) before you shoot for that extra touch of finesse.
