Terrible at Defense!!!!

Anyone got any pointers? I am just god awful at staying with a player and trying to get the ball away. They always just easily dribble around me.

You can try using LT and A. That keeps your defender in front of him a yard or two off the ball and when you see a bad touch let go of the trigger and he'll go for the tackle.

Control 1 player and use your strafe to stay in front of whoever has the ball and try and intercept passes, use the call teammate button while looking to intercept passes. Never be aggresive if you are the last defender against the AI, it will stop attacking and pass if you stay in front of him usually. You can hold the conservative tackle button and it will run to the ball for you and make the tackle. Only charge the keeper if it is a 1v1 or if none of your players are in between the ball and the keeper.

This is key and has really helped my defensive game (still need offensive help, though). When the other team goes for the counter I always my defensive man deeper. When the opportunity presents itself, call the 2nd defender into play.

My defense has been pretty good since I've learned about "jockey". Before I was getting blown in the double figures range. But last night I played with Haiti in few games vs Big teams like Spain and Brazil. And I have to say. I held my own. I didn't win any games yet....lol But at least I didn't get blown out. My lose were 2-3 points instead of 10-11 points lol.

I would like to talk more about goalie controls.

IMO do't try and be the keeper unless it is a 1v1 and you can get to the ball before he does (like a long pass that goes behind your defenders).

I started a World Cup (from the qualifiers) as Ireland. I have the difficulty on the one before Legend and defense is extremely difficult. I think the worst part of my defense is when the ball is in the air. The computer almost always wins the headers.
