How to shoot on a tight rope? (2010 World Cup)

Quick question - how do you shoot from a reasonable distance (near the penalty area edges) w/o the ball sailing in the air over the goal? I've tried finesse shots, regular shots, full power, half power, quarter power, etc. 95% of the time, the shot sails 10 yards over the goal or is just a ground shot. Is there a way to get some air on it and still be a strong, even with the ground shot w/o going over the goal? Does it depend on the player ratings? I noticed some players are more successful to not have it sail than others.

Thanks

Yeah you def need to pay attention to the player's long shot ability. Also depending on their shot power it will determine how strong you will need to hit it.
