    FIFA 12 Questions (E3 Related)

I will be at E3 this week with a couple other OS cohorts, so if you have some questions about FIFA, then post them here. Presumably, I will have a chance to talk with some developers while there etc. so keep that in mind as well.

I can't promise every question will get answered, but we shall try to get you guys the info you thirst for.

    I wouldn't mind a sticky either.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

Can we mix and match uniforms (Jerseys/shorts/socks)?

How does the removal of auto-tackle feel?

How does the new lighting look? Have they changed the cartoon looking color palette?

Will the creation center be much more in depth?

Just a couple of questions of the top of my head...
          • How will the referees comply with the new impact engine? In FIFA 11 huge collisions could occur, but because they weren't triggered by a tackle, they often went unnoticed to the referee.
          • How does the impact engine handle random impacts, say, two defenders unintentionally bumping into each other?
          • Are there any changes to set pieces in FIFA 12? Quick throw-ins, new aspects for free kicks/penalties, etc?
          • Are load times/cutscenes during substitutions going to be the same as FIFA 11?
          • Any news on the possibility of adding auto-substitions?
          • If they're able to talk about game modes, please ask about career mode

Can I create a team and use it in manager (or career) mode?

Any info about improvements/changes to Career Mode would be greatly appreciated.

Have goal kicks been addressed? In FIFA11, the kicking team has all their players on their own side of the field, in reality almost the whole team is positioned on the other side of the field. This way on the kick a defender or midfielder receives the ball and can push it up field with support ahead. In FIFA a goal kick of realistic distance puts the ball at the forwards with no one in front. Wish there was an easier way to explain this…

                A few questions:

What, if any, changes have been made to CM? Specifically regarding transfers in and out and player progression/development?

Will all free kicks, not just penalties, see the use of the composure bar prior to the kick being powered up and taken?

Have any changes been made to the advantage system in place for referees? Will the user have a specific button command available to press when/if they decide they don't want to play advantage? Will advantage not be fulfilled automatically simply because one successful pass is made, regardless of where it is made?

I probably have a few more but these are what I'm most interested in possibly hearing. Thanks again for giving us this opportunity to pose our own questions.

I'll add a simple one (created a thread for it) - can we edit players ratings once a Career has been started (a la Madden 12)?
                  Arsenal FC
                  New England Patriots
                  Boston Red Sox
                  Boston Celtics

                    1. Love itttttt. Obviously takes some time to get used to, but nice to have some actual skill involved there now.

                    2. Hmmm, I didn't notice a massive change sans camera angle feeling a little closer -- at least when it comes to the color palette.

-Refs clearly still a work in progress. They seem to be calling more fouls, but the contact is not correlating correctly with calls yet. And as for guys just running into each other, that's just leading to body collisions and pile ups on the freeway, no calls. At the same time, on-ball you can't just run someone over in the same way, it's more on 50/50 stuff.

-When two defenders bumping into each other and the like, it reacts depending on the angle, speed and all that. So it's variable. However, the magnitude of some collisions was clearly amped up for the E3 demo to make sure people see the difference this year.

-Free kicks and all that seemed the same. There were some quick restarts but no quick throw-ins.

-I don't recall making any subs, sans one for an injury so hard to say. I think they wanted to add more cutscenes, but not sure if that desire carries over to substitution ones.

I know what you're saying, but I don't think much has changed -- at least I didn't pick up on it if it has.

-Doesn't seem like it. I had a couple free kicks in dangerous areas where the mechanics seemed the same.

-I don't believe there is a user command in place for the advantages. I think this is probably something that is incredibly hard/frustrating to balance. But yeah, not really sure yet how much has changed there, if anything.

Chase did you see any improvements in goalkeeping? The positioning still needs a lot of work.

Do they have an "on-the-fly" sub method yet (like 2k11)? Its just annoying to have to pause the game to make sub changes.

Have finesse shots been toned down any? The ball seems a bit "flighty" (if that makes any sense) or no real weight to the ball, leading to the extra effectiveness of finesse shots.

Tough to say early on, and it's actually not something I have asked about at all. But I will ask about goalkeepers in the future for sure.

Finesse shots are something else I did not toy with much at E3. Scoring chances were actually rather hard to come by in the E3 build, so I really didn't get a chance to shoot much. It was more lots of passing and trying to make crosses/thread the needle/make runs to try and find some lanes.

I do know exactly what you mean though.
