Can someone explain in detail how to fake a shot?

I couldn't do it in 11 and still can't in 12. Can someone help me out?

Hold shoot, and then hit x and a direction on your left stick (the direction you want to cut too) very quickly. Takes a little practice to get used to it and getting a good feel on how quickly you have to transition from the shoot button to the pass button+direction

on 360, you almost have to roll your thumb from the B to the A button in order to do it. it has to be pretty quick.

Ok... I had alot of trouble with this for a while too cause the directions on how to do it are vague at best.

It is to hold the pass and shoot (or cross) buttons simultaneously. Press shoot and hold it. While the shot is powering up quickly press pass and the direction you want to go. It has to be while the shot is powering up or else u will shoot. dont worry about the power bar on a shot fake. hope that helps
