World Championship Question/Glitch?

I manage the US in my career mode and started the World Championship (World Cup) during the 2nd offseason. I was placed in a group with Italy, Romania, and Ecuador. Italy won the group with 7 points, I came in 2nd with 5 points, and Ecuador third with 4 points. But after my last game the announcers started commenting about my inability to advance. When I went back to the career mode menu, a news story popped up saying I finished second in group B and was advancing, but the only option was for me to "End Season" and read articles talking about my failure. Is this a glitch that can be fixed because I advanced to the next round and I would like to play more games. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not had that happen to me, but I would be really upset if it did.

The season timeline is based on the club season. You will continue the world championship in the next season, just a few days after your last game but technically to the game "a new season". The articles might be glitches or referring to your club season.
