I've never purchased a FIFA game before so I'm not sure how it works regarding MLS but I'm thinking of purchasing FIFA this year... Do the FIFA games include all the teams in the MLS? Will I be able to take say the LA Galaxy thru their 2013 season real life schedule?

Yes, you can play as all of the MLS teams and use them in Career Mode.

The teams are there, and play with the league schedule of the season that's wrapping up when the game is released, and the playoff format is like it is in real life, but that's where the realism ends. The US Open Cup is in, but with only the US MLS teams (there are no NASL teams in the game). There is no CONCACAF Champions League, there's no Canadian Championship for the Canadian MLS teams to compete in. There are also no advanced roster rules like designated players and domestic requirements.

If all you care about is playing out an MLS season with the right players and kits (for the most part), then it serves its purpose. But if you're looking for a true-to-life MLS simulation, Football Manager is still the only option.
