Retiring players in national teams

Not sure if anyone has asked this before, couldn't find anything. National Team tournaments in career mode usually start at the end of one season, and end at the beginning of the next right? Does anyone know what happens if you have a player that is going to retire at the end of the season on your national team? Will he disappear from the roster at the end of the season in the middle of the tournament or will you be forcing him to put retirement on hold until the next season since you had him on your national squad for the tournament?

I had Donovan retire mid 2014 WC (when the schedule turned over). I was also unable to replace him on the roster.

Retire mid tournament. Had Onwenyu retire mid World Cup on me, really handcuffed me in the middle of my defense for the USA.

Man well that sucks. One would think the best way for a player to retire would be to play one last tournament with their national team and that's what I wanted to do but I guess it'd be a waste of time. He'll just play all the friendly matches but I won't select him for the tournaments
