Re: The Case for VAR in FIFA 21

If FIFA 21 is completely rebuilt for the new consoles and PC then I'm all for it. If the code has VAR built in from the start I see a lot less problems. Trying to patch it in to the mess they've made of the current gen though is asking for more trouble. Also what VAR would they use the mess of the Premiere League or how the rest of the world uses it. For me I'd just keep it simple and leave it to offside calls and disallowed goals because of handballs. Of course handball calls require proper player model/animations and collision detection to begin with.

Re: The Case for VAR in FIFA 21

In my (offline single player) experience over the years with American Football games (including NFL2k5) I have always HATED replay review systems. There is rarely any drama with most calls being obvious. The exception to that being when the game screws up and the replay review delivers a ridiculously blown call (animation no aligning to result). It ends up being a button mashing waste of time. And usually it is the same type of play that always triggers the replay. In NCAA football it is a fumble after the carrier is down that ALWAYS gets overturned. In NFL 2K, (I seem to recall) it was receivers having the ball dislodged by a defender initially ruled a catch/fumble always overturned to incomplete.

Even if the replay reviews worked flawlessly and provided drama, I am not sure it would really add that much to the big picture? Definitely not worth the risk of screwing things up.
