i thought i read somewhere that it was shown behind closed doors to certain people or something. i dunno so much E3 news my head is still spinning lol
my guess would be they are doing that because they are attpemting to change the style of gameplay. that and the switch to montreal and getting beat in sales they might be trying to start fresh. who knows though. i was a little salty when i saw it wouldn't be at E3.

That's what Albert (from OS) said. I hope it's true so that we do get some info from the E3. But I'm starting to worry as I'm sure both IGN and Gamespot would have had something by now. I hope I'm wrong though.
Also does anyone know if Wayne Gretzty's Hockey game was there?
I'm really excited to see what's in store for us hockey gamers this coming fall.
i was drooling when i saw 2k7 for 360, i am sure i will do the same when i see nhl 07 on 360. even if the games suck, the eye candy + beer will make it all better.
they reall yneed to junk that creation zone thing. not everybodys nose looks like darryl strawberry's. they should just go back to the 100 CAPs, 80/20 and still let us edit players and even include the EA fakes! those make leatherface a lot of players this year! lol

it's all good and if half of what I read ( mostly here ) is true, I am truley stoked
that's the difference this year , EA went to the drawing board and looks as though 2k went to the photocopier...
Any proof/links to this?
And EA does need to go back to the drawing board, as this series has blown chunks for years. The 2k series doesn't need an overhaul, but rather some subtle tweaks, as it is the most realistic representation of the sport on the market.

though i don't see how looking at nhl 93 and 94 for inspiration will help this series. those games were great and addictive, but that was also 16 bit. if companies want to make arcadey sports games the should just make them that and improve inn that area, not add stuff like franchise/dynasty and a boatload of international teams. it doesn't make sense to me.

IMO, they need to tweak three things and give us a little more variance in the sliders:
1) Goalie play. Biggest problem, one that needs attention ASAP.
2) Lower the shot speeds. 110+mph is unrealistic. Drop it to real looking shots, which will improve the shoddy goalie play at the same time.
3) Fix the physics problem where it's so easy to bat the puck out of the air. Too many goals scored this way.
I don't share alot of your guys' viewpoints that this game is worse than 2K. It needs some work, but 2K has the biggest problem, IMO. The skating is extremely unrealistic. Needs a complete overhaul. This game needs some tweaking, that's it.

I agree. The goalies need more authentic AI. Add HitzPro AI and this game is drastically different.
Then make sliders, like you mentioned, that work. The game speed from the skating to the passes and shots is rediculously high.
Also, if it's not already obvious, make the defensive AI more aggressive. Not overly but boost it up a notch.
And like you said the physics need to be addresses as well. In NHL06 the puck always flys off the 4 major points of the goalie in the same fashion no matter how hard the shot was.
Another thing that really bothered me about 06 was the small, medium, large players. And no matter who the player was or what his attributes were your speed and strength was dictated by your size. That's garbage. If I want to play NES Ice hockey I'll do that.
The only fluff peice I'd like to see return is the goal celebrations from NHL04. They were the best in the business. They got rid of some of these celebrations for 2006 and I didn't like that.
If they can improve on these aspects the game would be killer.
For some reason I always look forward to EA's hockey games more than the others. But then, I'm always disappointed in some fashion and end up with the 2K games.
I really like the 2K games but there are some things in it that keep my wanting.
And I'm really hoping that the guys at SCEA can do for the Gretzky series what they did for MLB:The Show. That would be scary.

Wow....if that did happen, EA and 2k would be in big trouble. I've only played MLB:The Show at a Best Buy kiosk, but that game is incredible. If you're a big baseball fan, it warrants a purchase of a PS2 if you don't already have one.
I think it would be a big plus if EA took the in-game editor a step further and incorporated a global editing tool. That is one thing I truly miss about the PC version --- the ability to edit every player (if warranted) in a certain attribute. A lot of sroz39's concerns, which are dead on, could be addressed in mere seconds.
I played 2004 ad nauseum for almost two years. Being able to go in and globally decrease every player's shot power, agility, etc. really helped make the game more realistic. I've debated trying to edit the players in 06, but having to do it on an individual player basis makes for a pretty daunting task.

I'm actually thinking of buying a used PS2 just for that game along with VB2 and RE:4. But all the used PS2's on Ebay are even more expensive (after shipping) than the new price of $128.00 CDN.
Flyermania, I've read that IAM's mods for 06 are incredible. My home PC doesn't have a capable video card but would it be worth buying one for those mods?
