    Your BE A GM dynasty..

alright its christmas and im bored so i wanna know how all your be a gm mode's are going..

first off im the Buffalo Sabres. My first season i finished 4th in the east only to lose to the Thrashers (who won the cup!) in the second round. The whole entire season i only made 3 trades, that being Nathan Gerbe to the Bruins(he played for Boston College) for a first round pick. Mark Mancari (who i brought up, and he owned the NHL) which the Redwings offered ME a 1st and 3rd round pick (real dumb) and i somehow traded Marek Zagrapan to the Sens for a 1st round pick. do the math...3 first round picks.

Once the draft came that left me with the 14th 15th and 19th overall picks. I picked up a LW (14th overall pick, 76 overall rating) who this season in 53 games has 41 points. with the 15th overall pick i took a RW who i brought up and in 32 games he has 21 points. And with the 19th overall pick i chose a defensemen who i just brought up and in ten games he has 11 points (this guy is going to be unbelieveable due to his potential being real high...and a side note they actually say his name!!!??)

Only free agent pickup i made was home town boy Pat Kane who in 53 games has 55 points (decent).

now i play on superstar and i originally used flyermanias settings but i had to boost it up a few notches to make it harder. as of now i have a crazy record of 38-10-05 first place in the league. i guess i can say i brought the cardiac kids back because with all these rookies and young guys i have been tearing it up.

so far in my second season i traded Mike Weber(80 overall) to the canucks for a good prospect (75overall) and a 2nd round pick. i really dont think ill be looking to trade anyone away, but as of now i have 3 GM blackberry phones unlocked so im open to accepting trades from the computer.

anyways thats all i got its pretty fun.

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

I have recently started a be a GM mode with the Toronto Maple Leafs. My record is (18-11-7), and I am in 4th place in the Eastern Conference.
-Here is a record of my major Gm moves

-Traded Jiri Tlusty (78 overall), Justin Pogge (73 overall), and a 4th round pick to the Boston Bruins for Phil Kessel (84 overall)

      - Signed free agent Kris Chucko (76 overall) I put him in the Marlies to help their offense

-Claimed Stephen Valiquette (77 overall) off waivers, sent him down to minors to help with poor goaltending

      - Traded James Reimer (71 overall) to Detroit for a 2nd round pick

-Traded Niklas Hagman (80 overall) to Chicago for Patrick Sharp (83 overall)

Sharp and Kessel are really working well together on the first line

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

i did a fantasy draft BEAGM with the TB Lightning...my goal was to grab young players with potential - i made a number of trades:

            R. Nash - S. Stamkos - P. Kane
            N. Filatov - E. Kane - J. Voracek
            R. Mason - M. Duchene - (can't recall)
            F. Brunnstrom - A. Esposito - N. Zherdev

i ended up playing 1 1/2 months of the season...was last in goals scored, and first in goal-tending (steve mason). i wanted higher scoring games so i tweaked my sliders and decided that i would simulate to the playoffs - ended up being a 4th seed and beat montreal 4-2. i am now playing against the ny islanders and am trailing 3-1 (after being down 3-0).

i made a lot of trades, but wanted to get the team developed so i would limit moves in the future. i always enjoy doing fantasy draft seasons, starting over entirely and allowing each team to rebuild. i typically move my draft picks for young players i know. basically i want a team that is fast with some toughness...

Depends on the teams for me. It it's some team I don't care about like Atlanta or Flordia, I'll sim, but if it's divisional, I always play them.

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

I did a fantasy draft with Detroit. I've been playing 1 game and then I'll sim the next 4.

First season I went 51-27-4 and lost in the second round, second season I went 54-24-4 and lost in the finals and my third season I went 45-32-5 and managed to win the cup. I'm currently 12-7-1 and in 5th place in the West in my fourth season.

My team looks like this right now:

                I. Kovalchuk (91) T. Oshio (86) J. Van Riemsdyk (87)
                C. Higgins (83) A. Cogliano (86) D. Stafford (83)
                T. Tatar (81) N. Gerbe (83) G. Latendresse (82)
                R. Morczinietz (80) R. Nilsson (81) N. Gleason (76)

                J. Johnson (90) V. Hedman (86)
                J. Ericsson (82) A. Edler (85)
                M. Carle (80) D. Kohn (80)

                C. Schneider (87)
                K. Ramo (80)

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

I am currently deep into a Kings dynasty. I typically play one game a week unless a second looks really interesting.

Year 1: I didn't play all that many games and the ones I did play I almost always lost as I had a real problem with scoring at that point. I don't recall our exact record but we were 2nd to last behind Colorado. I lost a bunch of low to mid 80s guys to free agency and signed center ? Little. Drafted Mike Peterson (and traded for Fedor Obsut later in year 2 before reading how good he is online) and that was about it.

Year 2: Pretty much the same with a little more scoring but a very noticable growth in guys like Kopitar, Doughty, Johnson, Brown, Little, Peterson and Obsut.

Year 3: Had a terrible draft but the team looked pretty amazing just because the Kings start so young. Overall we had an incredible year, #2 in points for, #2 in points against (Bernier is at an 87 at this point). Florida offered Horton at the deadline and I gladly accepted, that's when things got real good. Finished 2nd in the West but lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Year 4: Now we are pretty stacked. Off the top of my head we had: Line 1 - LW Brown 87, C Kopitar 89, RW Horton 88 Line 2 - LW Mcginn 85, C Little 85/6, RW Obsut 85.

Horton led the league in points all year and finished with 119. Bernier started every game and racked up 54 wins with the 3rd lowest average goals against in the league winning several awards including MVP. Traded Brown and others for Okposo from the Islanders which I know will hurt in the long run but I wanted to get the most out of this season.

We ended up beating the Sabres by 1 in game 3 (I set it to 3 game series, currently regretting that) for the Stanley Cup off the first and only penalty shot I have experienced by Fedor Obsut. I absolutely loved the post game stuff with the players celebrating and can't wait to see it again. Also one of the coolest things I have ever seen/heard in a sports game was when the crown started chanting "MVP MVP MVP" in the middle of the finals games, that really got me excited.

The only thing I find disappointing with Be a GM mode is that all the draft classes seem to suck except for the first premade one. I havent seen a single guy make an impact from any other class and I check around the league very often.

Oh yeah and I just have to proclaim my love for Drew Doughty. He starts at an 83 I believe at 19 years old and by the time he hit 22 he was at a 91 and has the highest trade value of anyone in the league. If you can manage it try to trade for this guy or draft him onto your fantasy draft team.

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

Well after several starts and restarts due to ever changing slider setups, I believe I've found my place.

With the Wild, I'm off to a rough start at 1-6. I kinda have my doubts that I'll be very competitive with the setup I'm using. But I'm having a blast with how the game plays at All-Star hardcore setting. If I can up my GPG a bit..I'll have a chance.

The only roster moves I've made so far are....I signed Juri Hudler out of free agency, and picked up Jay Mckee off the wavier wire.

I had a rough start with the wild when my bro and i played, but once he stopped on went on a tear and won 5 in a row....coincidence? lol

Good stuff guys. I'm looking to finally start one now that I have sliders I like and MattG's roster -- just need to get T&J's music packs on my shiny new PS3. I have to decide if I'm going to do one with the Penguins or venture outside my homeland for more of a challenge. I was thinking about the Kings (to grow), Rangers (to blow up & rebuild), or Sabres (wouldn't change too much). I'm actually leaning towards New York, but I'd have to put aside my animosity towards them as a Penguins fan...

Re: Your BE A GM dynasty..

just played an INCREDIBLE game last night in mine...

i'm down 3-1 against the islanders (so every game is an elimination game)... Game 5 on the road. I took an early lead on two PP goals (outshot them 23-6 in period 1). they came out and just took over in period two, getting one goal. i was fortunate to be ahead 2-1 heading into the third.

i had two shots in the third go off the post and crossbar but nothing...they scored at the 12 minute mark to tie it at 2. with 6 minutes to play they took the lead (stupid on my part - i pinched my weakside dman down and got caught in an odd-man rush). down 3-2.

with 53 seconds left they get called for a hooking penalty. i rolled the dice and took a timeout and pulled my goalie. with 17 seconds to play, patrick kane scored a PP goal (and unlocked me the "look no goalie" achievement, i might add). game tied at 3 at the end of regulation. palms sweaty...heart pounding.

with just under 5 minutes to play in overtime i score the game-winner, once again patrick kane, on a rebound shot (had 3 guys crowding the goalie). i had just killed a penalty in which i couldn't clear my zone and i thought it was over.

heading back home to Tampa for game 6...one game at a time, baby!

                            damn, this is fun!!!!!

Nice. Must be the new sliders... HA!

EDIT: After a bit of web-browsing today, I think I'm going to swallow my Penguins pride and go with the Rangers. They have a surprising array of young talent for a team not known to develop from within. So, Glen Sather, consider yourself FIRED! Now if I can just get someone take Roszival and Redden off my hands... and Drury, you'd better watch your back, too.
