Question about rookie status

Say I drafted a player but left him in the AHL for a season, would the game still consider him a rookie if I called him up the next year?

The reason I ask is because I don't know if it's a glitch or what, but when I did what I mentioned above in an earlier dynasty, he was no longer considered a rookie in the second year, even though he had never played an NHL game.

EDIT: I should clarify, I want to know specifically for NHL10.

He should be considered as a rookie.
