when dumping the puck my AI teammates are not fighting for the puck

i tried dumping the puck but somehow most of the time, my AI teammates are too slow or at times they have not crossed the blue line (wherein fact we almost arrive at the same time at the blue line).

are there any strategies for this? usually i play aggressive or at times full attack. both seems not working when i dumped the puck. any thoughts... thanks in advance.

Yes, dump and chase it yourself. Don't rely on them.
That's what I do and have good success.
Actually I will dump then quickly switch to the closest teammate and control him into the corner.
Unless you're playing position lock or OTP then this post does not pertain to you.

big thanks for answering my question.... i was hoping the AI will automatically chase it then when he's close. i play sometimes lock position. perhaps i need to get use to switching right away after a dump if i dont play lock position.

Yep BC...I do the same thing.

It would be great if your AI teammates responded far better to you dumping it in. But your so right...you have to do it yourself. I should I suppose, be dumping the puck in more often than I do. I guess I just have a tough time justifying playing dump and chase most times, when carrying the puck in is pretty dang easy.

However, I do use auto line changes. Maybe dumping the puck in from time to time is a good idea with me using auto line change.

It would be nice if they hit the blue line, and went into the offensive zone a little better on their own in general.
I can't think of the number of scoring chances i've missed out on because as i skate in towards the goalie on a 2 on 1 chance, my AI team mate either stops at the circles, or skates into one of the corners, killing any chance for a one-time shot off the pass

I have had success soft dumping the puck to the opposite corner while simultainiously upping the forecheck to 3-2, I usually control a defenseman in that situation to help avoid breakaway stretch passes if one of my CPU teammates can't get control of the puck. I'd say it works about half the time, and by works I mean come away with the puck in a corner battle.

Also, Passing or shooting the Puck around the boards to the opposite side of the offensive zone seems to be very effective, especially with the overload offensive strategy.

nice.... perhaps i'll try these 2 suggestions in my game, conrolling a d-man in soft dump with 3-2 and shooting the puck around the boards of the opposite side. thanks.

I exclusively use Overload strategy and I'll back you up that firing around the boards works very, very well.

Ya try shooting or saucer passing the puck around the boards. THe puck flies in quicker than the dump and you can get it on the other side. aand it sometimes forces the goalie behind the net causing a turnover

I use a slap pass. I aim to miss the goalie and the net by a hair if I can. This makes the goalie come out and play it leading to all sorts of mayhem. I even try for odd bounces off the end boards with the slap pass to make it come back across the face of goal for more mayhem. Also for some reason the weak side AI forward for your team flies towards the puck with incredible speed and beats the other teams players to the puck for me (human or AI opposition). Only when I use a slap pass to dump it in though. Regular flip dumps you have to fore check yourself.

sound stupid or lazy (checking the manual) how do you slap pass again? do you aim for the opposite side? or saucer pass aroudn the boards? do you hold the RB (i use 360) little longer for faster result? (im at work and trying to visualize it...heheheh) cant play tonite to test all these.... its our family time =)

I think he means wind up for slapshot then press R1. That is the fake shot into pass. I just use regular slap or wrist shot, it works well too (and CPU does this a lot)

Slap pass is when you hold RB then pull back on the right stick and and shoot like you are taking a slap shot.

I usually do slap passes from the side boards when entering the zone. I aim in the general direction of the net. More towards the back of the net and to the side. Obviously you will not be accurate with it a majority of the time, which is a good thing. The unpredictability of it is what makes it so successful.

I will sometimes aim to the opposite side of the net if I want a forward to get there and pick it up for me. Like I said the weak side forward just rushes in quickly without you having to do anything as long as you slap pass it.

I started using this technique in online versus last year after using it in OTP with great success.

one other alternative is to cross-corner a saucer pass as you enter the zone. Usually the defenseman can't intercep it and the time it takes him to pivot will allow your winger to either gain possession outright, or at least board pin and give you a great chance to poke check it away.
