Passing is horrible!

The delay when playing online with the passing this year is horrible. I can't pass the puck when I want to but worst now the delay is so bad it makes me pass and push the puck a full 2 seconds later after my initial press of the button.

It was fine last year but now it is impossible to make a decent pass in this game with even the best passers in the game like Savard because of the extreme delay. The delayed movement online is killing the game. It's not my internet cause I have severely upgraded and only have this issue with EA sports games, NHL specifically.

I really like the passing in this game. I'm hoping EA won't revert back to the insta-passes in the next NHL game. Not to mention, this delay you're talking about is barely anything at all and I have no issues with it when playing online.

I agree with the OP, I hate the manual passing, I wish they would let you turn it off for online...

The insta pass was bad not because you could pass instantly but because of the ridiculous accuracy. I don't mind the accuracy being low, but just let me get rid of the puck in the direction I aimed when I want to. It is as if they reward the hit with a higher priority than the pass. How many times have you pressed the pass button right before the hit yet get no response. Too numerous to count if you ask me.

I'll admit though, the new passing system has a flaw and that's when the puck goes towards you and the way the passing system is set up, you pass the puck backwards behind you. That has cost me a few goals where the puck goes behind me and the opponent picks it up and scores.

There is no reason for me to press pass or push the puck then have to wait a full 2 seconds before any pass or push the puck happens. The delay is way too long. Real players pass and swing at the puck without having to wait 2 seconds. we are unable to just swing at the puck realistically then at least let me push or at least pass when I want one. If they are gonna do it this way then fine give us a swing the stick at the puck option and not the one where you take the full slap shot. I mean just a soft swing where you just swing at it to a spot.

Like shooting it but anywhere on the ice not just outside the offensive zone. In the offensive zone it leads into shooting towards the net. There is no quick right stick move the puck any where you want ability. Everything is a delayed predetermined option. Hockey is not all predetermined. Not enough dynamic movement of the puck, way too static. I understand they want to show off their hit engine but make a guy earn his hit, don't stop me from making my pass just because you want to give someone a nice big over done hit animation.

The only way to quickly put to puck into open areas quickly is with the pass, Now if they are delaying it how else can I quickly move the puck.

You make great points, players move the puck FAST in the NHL, to have "load" your pass is simply unrealistic...hockey is about split second decisions...when I have to make a quick pass and just tap the pass trigger the passes aren't nearly fast enough

Saucer pass, or chip it, or slap pass etc. There's options for putting a puck where you want it.

1. You have to load up the saucer to get any speed and distance on it. Plus if you don't already have possession of the puck all that it will do is make me poke at it. I want to do a soft chip swing since I can't immediately pass it.

2. again you can't do this in the offensive zone cause they always aim at the net.

3. again you have to load up to do a slap pass.

I want immediate puck movement not loaded static base to base puck movement in the offensive zone. This is not something new because you could do this in the series before. The flip dump controls used to be a hard pass move and was the closest way to emulate quick poke movement with out the static base to base forced passing. Instead of making this a flip dump in the offensive zone go back to that control scheme, or at least let me choose between the two. I rarely ever flip dump and if I had a choice between the two I would rather have the hard immediate manual pass without the delay. This is for online play.

Chipping pucks in this game works extremely well in the defensive zone. I use it all the time to shoot it around the boards for my D partner to pick it up in HUT.

Also, there's a way to shoot pucks in the offensive zone without aiming at the net. I can't remember how but it involves holding a button while shooting, so it is possible IIRC.

I don't think you guys are getting what I am saying yes there is a slap pass but again it is a move that takes at least 2 seconds to complete. I want immediate ability to move the puck not predetermined loaded up moves. That capability was in the game or at least somewhat in NHL 08. It was not exactly perfect but it was the closest representation of a hard fast manual pass with no predetermined load up.

Every now and then I'm thankful for the delay. It lets me make a last second change in direction if I have to. Most of the time it's frustrating as hell. I play D exclusively. A lot of the times I get the puck deep in our defensive zone. The other teams players tend to be all around me. Getting a pass off quickly to my forwards is really tough. I hit pass, but it takes en extra second or two to get off. In this time it's been turned over. This was so nice in 10. I like the aiming. I just want the delay toned down. Just don't want it tape to tape like it was in 10.

I agree with the OP, manual passes take an unrealistically long amount of time to load up. If EA wants to stick with manual passing, they should at least do it like in the new Pro Evolution Soccer where it loads up a lot quicker and it's basically impossible to do a 2 mph pass like what happens in NHL if you just press the pass button and let go again like you used to. You don't ever want to do a 2 mph pass.

Yeah the new "load up" passing is just a bad mechanic.

Not fun to use, and not realistic, either.

I do like that pass accuracy is down a bit, but there's no reason for pass speed to be as bad as it is now.

Especially some of those CPU passes from your teammates that are Pee Wee strength.
