    wish theyd bring this back

forget which nhl game had it but you could take control of a player when you were on offense, that didnt have the puck and make him drive to the net, have him stand in front and control deflections.

was an awesome feature. many times in nhl 10 and 11 I have wished I could control the player to go to the net instead of circling behind it when I shoot from the point.

Or they could just have a button to press to instruct one or more of your players to stand in front of the net.
Instead of pressing in on the right stick (ps3) resulting in a fake shot, maybe they could make that the deflection button or the "get someone in front" button?

I find the A.i. does a good job of going to the net if you use a 2-1-2 LOW or 3-2 Offensive Strategy. It's a lot better now, than in NHL 09 or 10.

in the 2K series, the D-Pad buttons were for 'on-the-fly' coaching strategies.
      Up, Down, Left, Right...

      - 4 quick ones for Offense: Screen Goalie, Help (when pinned), D-Man Pinch, and Crash Net

      - Defense: Collapse, Clear Net, Breakout, Help (when pinned).

I really liked the 'screen goalie' on Offense and the 'breakout' on defense - you could send one winger waaay up waiting for a long pass, or call him back with a quick press of the 'collapse' button.
      George Bell forever!

They had this in NHL 06. I remember using it for both offense and defense.

I remember this. One of the better things about those games.

This would be great. too many times do players just stand around the slot or circle behind the net when the could get some Knuble style goals

It's funny you say that, I played against the Caps tonight online and my opponent must have had something set up right because Mike Knuble was damn near pulling a Sean Avery on Tim Thomas.. super tough to deal with because the guy edited his lines to have Knuble on line 1 and Ovechkin was bombing slappers into the net at a ridiculous rate.
My avatar might have a Bruins picture, yes.

But don't get it wrong, Whalers for life!
