I can only stop so many breakaway and one timer. There is a ton of very good offensive player online with their legend card playing OTP. They are very hard to stop in breakaway let alone one-timer. Of course, Mr human goalie gets blame because Robot Goalie can do it.

Of course, don't ask the defense to block the passing lane or stop turning the puck over in our zone or in the slot. Its always the goalie's fault...

I'd like to think that a good number of players realize how tough it is to play goalie online. There are too many d-bags out there that just like to complain of course. I only play it occasionally and find it fun, but I'd go insane if I tried to play the majority of games in net.

It's a thankless position online. Defense coming in a close second. Sadly, the amount of OTP players who actually use defensemen in the offensive zone is few. And like goalie, you can make nine plays on defense, but the one you miss that results in a goal, the dangling forward that's waiting at the opposing blue line loves to complain about. Tool. Bag.

Hopefully the tools don't take away your enjoyment of the game too much.

Screw them. If you let in some goals, so be it. The game is not as easy online as it is offline. The majority of your teammates online turn the puck over quite a bit and are not in the right positions half of the time. Just try and stay in the middle of the net on most straight on shots. Poke check works well on breakaways, just have to time it right. Can't stop them all.

I mostly play only on Sunday. Good enough for you ?

I'm a defensive defense man so I understand your pain.

The problem is, when I regain the puck, I have 3 people coming at me on the forecheck from every angle.

My other defenseman gets covered by one of these guys and the center who is supposed to stay back and give me another passing option is streaking down the ice along with the other two wingers.

So either I dump it and get yelled at or attempt a pass and it often gets stolen for a free 3 on 1 breakway chance.

I always play back as noone ever passes back to the defensemen and everyone online plays super aggressive forecheck leaving only the 2 defensemen to defend against a 4 on 2 breakout.

So if I accidentally give up a breakaway, forgive me EASHL goalies

I try to incorporate everyone in the offensive zone, but for some reason NHL 13 won't let you. It's easier to make a tape to tape pass across the slot than it is to pass behind you, squared up or not. Most OTP games, there's either three people in the corner and two in front of the net every time you touch the puck. Without the ability to drop it back to the d, you either get boarded (without penalty), take a bad shot, or get it poked away and boarded. I'm not sure why the pass assist won't lock onto the D-man behind you.

Is this for NHL 12 or 13? I don't have 13 and I would like to be a part of a team, I only have my amateur 2 card though if that might be an issue.

Me too, I always try and play RD and have gotten used to being an uncelebrated work horse. It makes it harder too when the other D man on your team loves to play as a forward and gets caught up ice with the puck coming back the other way.

Playing goalie is hard. Last year I gave it a go and my very first time, as the game was loading someone on my team said 'goalie, you better be good, you better have your game together because I dont want to get beat because you can't play in net.' Hahaha

Living in Australia I can only ever connect to games in North America so my connection is never above one red bar, but when I do get a chance to go online, this game is so fun. Hang in there goalie, I for one never criticise human goalies for goals against. Its a tough and often thankless gig.

You gotta get some friends that play D to roll with you. The difference is monumental vs regular otp games where you face 5+ breakaways and 10 odd mans lol
