    How's Your GM Mode going?

This thread was really popular for NHL 13, so I decided that I might as well make a new one for NHL 14. The thread title explains itself, tell us about your GM Mode!

I started with the Devs. I scrapped a rebuild idea because there was good center depth and Brodeur + Schneider is great. Jagr, Clowe, Salvador, Zidlicky, and a few others were moved because their contracts are dumb/salary cap is tight. Ian White joined from free agency and St. Louis was traded for. Year 1 we missed the playoffs with a 44-30-8 record, which I was pretty happy about to be honest.

Cap is still pretty tight in year 2, but we added Daniel Sedin, which should help the offense and boost Zajac's productivity (he had 30 goals and 66 points last year, so he wasn't bad to begin with). St. Louis retired so we're struggling on RW depth but I think we'll be fine. My lineup:

    Sedin|Zajac|Palmieri
    Elias|Henrique|Ryder
    Latendresse|Antropov|Ponikarovsky
    Paille|Josefson|Machacek

    Larsson|White
    Green|Volchenkov
    Redden|Fayne

    Schneider
    Brodeur

Palmieri and Ryder will probably alternate, but I think we're definitely some sort of playoff contenders. Larsson and Henrique need to progress more, too.

10-2-1 with the Champs Toews already has 28 points. Playing on all-star might have to bump it it up. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting good games with the CPU and others I feel like I dominate too much. I personally love the game. Yeah there's a few things EA could have done better but there's things EA can always do better. Going through a cold spell with Patrick Sharp though. Been tryin to feed him the puck but he's slumping. And sorry but I gotta promote my Patrick Kane spin-o-rama lol

Probably gonna have to pick up a center eventually in my franchise. Other than Toews'er and Handzus I'm struggling with face offs. But I see the Hawks in real life have the SaadFather playing some center in camp. Might try that out. Oh and I don't sim any games.

Kicking off the 2013 season with the Defending champs! Here is the line up I will be going with. Hossa and Kane might switch lines depending on performace.

            <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></head><body><table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" class="osdyn" width="575"><tr class="masthead_alt"><td bgcolor="#E13A3E" colspan="5"><span style="color:#231F20">2013 Chicago Blackhawks Depth Chart - 2013</span></td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="8%"></td><td width="23%">STARTER</td><td width="23%">2ND</td><td width="23%">3RD</td><td width="23%">4TH</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>LW</td><td><b>P.Sharp</b></td><td>B.Saad</td><td>B.Bickell</td><td>J.Morin</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>C</td><td><b>J.Toews</b></td><td>M.Kruger</td><td>M.Handzus</td><td>B.Pirri</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>RW</td><td><b>M.Hossa</b></td><td>P.Kane</td><td>A.Shaw</td><td>J.Hayes</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>D #1</td><td><b>D.Keith</b></td><td>N.Hjalmarsson</td><td>N.Leddy</td><td></td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>D #2</td><td><b>B.Seabrook</b></td><td>M.Rozsival</td><td>J.Oduya</td><td></td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td>G</td><td><b>C.Crawford</b></td><td>N.Khabibulin</td><td></td><td></td></tr></table></body></html>

For scouting I will be focusing mainly on Goalies and Centers.

My plan is to play a game a week and sim the rest. So up next for the BlackHawks:

            VS CAPITALS
            AT BLUES
            VS MAPLE LEAFS
            VS WILD
            VS SENATORS
            NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
            NFL: Green Bay Packers
            NCAA: Wisconsin Badgers
            Soccer: Manchester United/Real Madrid/AS Roma/Lyon/Bayern Munich/Chicago Fire

Re: How's Your GM Mode going?

I got a rough start with my Habs, 4-5-1 after the first 10 games, but made some changes and won 7 straight. Line-up right now is...

              M.Pacioretty - J.Huberdeau - E.Kane
              R.Bourque - T.Plekanec - B.Gionta
              S.Baertchi - A.Galchenyuk - B.Gallagher
              T.Moen - R.White - B.Prust

              A.Markov - P.Subban
              K.Ballard - T.Brodie
              D.Murray - F.Bouillon

              C.Price
              P.Budaj

Evander Kane right now is the leading scorer on the team, with 9 goals, 9 assists for 18 points, although the majority of it was with Winnipeg. Amazed that I could get players like him and Huberdeau, even with Trading Difficulty at Hard, without having to sacrifice much in return (Gorges is the best asset I had to give, along with 4 stars prospect Bozon). Still have Leblanc in the minors, still have Fucale. Still have both Tinordi and Beaulieu. Still have all my first round picks...the future looks bright in Montreal.

Re: How's Your GM Mode going?

So October is over and the Blackhawks are 8-4-1. Started out rough as we lost our season opener 6-2 to the Capitals. We ended October on a 3 game win streak beating the Wild twice and the Senators once.

I made a couple of line up changes. I switched Hossa and Kane and Kruger and Handzus. This seems to have worked out well. Since the switch we are 5-1!

Currently the Blackhawks are second in Div B with 17 points(1 point out of 1st)

Sharp is our leading goal scorer with 6 and Hossa is our assist leader with 11. Seabrook has 26 PIMS and Sharp is a plus 11. Crawford has 6 wins.

UP next is November. The key games are:

                AT Jets
                AT Stars
                AT Predators
                AT Avalanche
                AT Stars
                NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
                NFL: Green Bay Packers
                NCAA: Wisconsin Badgers
                Soccer: Manchester United/Real Madrid/AS Roma/Lyon/Bayern Munich/Chicago Fire

Re: How's Your GM Mode going?

I just started a franchise with Detroit. I took a different approach to keep me more interested in the game since I dont know hockey as much as I used to. I live down the road from where the Plymouth Whalers (OHL) play and am a big fan so I added some of them to my roster. Trocheck (led OHL in points, florida prospect) and Tom Wilson (made debut for capitals in the playoffs) are on my third line. I also picked up some Whalers alumni, Chad LaRose from Carolina and James Wisniewski. Those guys also played with Weiss in Plymouth.

                  My forward lines are

                  Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Franzen
                  Abeldkader/Weiss/Alfredson
                  LaRose/Trocheck/Wilson

I won my first game 5-3 but need to adjust the sliders a lot. Buffalo controlled the game, outshot me by a lot and had a lot more chances. I scored 5 goals on 25 shots so I need to make that a bit more difficult.

I wish there was a way to do franchise mode with the other leagues. I'd rather play in the OHL than the NHL, but oh well.

I wouldn't have traded for huberdeau, you already have galchenyuk for 1st line center of the future. Maybe get another young defenseman to go with P.K. And just a quick question to all of you guys who already have the game : do faceoffs get better in this game ?

The plan is to have Galchenyuk and Huberdeau as my 1-2 punch offensively, using both on the PP, with Huberdeau taking the wing. Plekanec, if I can still afford him after his current contract, can be a very effective 3rd line center, and PK specialist. I just had more faith in Huberdeau than Eller.

My D-squad is a bit weaker than it was this year, with Gorges gone, but his contract would've hancuffed me in the upcoming years, so he eventually had to go. Plus, I really like Brodie as a top-4.

I doubt I'll re-sign Markov at the end of the season, unless he comes at a very cheap price, but I'm counting on Tinordi/Beaulieu getting upgraded, and intend to draft a D-man in the 1st round (hopefully Ekblad).

I should have a bit of money to sign a free agent def to complete my top-6, with Gionta/Markov expiring contract, or I'll use Louis Leblanc as trade bait to find a good top-3 def.

Just started a GM with Boston and its right at the start I'm just wondering should I trade Chara? He has almost full value and I could probably get almost anything back and sometimes I have seen him retire after the second year. Maybe another Dman like Pietrangelo?

I would personally. He's getting up there in age, and as dominant as he can be in real life, Chara is kinda slow for NHL gaming. If he has almost full value, you could get a lot of good pieces in return, including a decent def to replace him, and a 1st round pick for the upcoming draft. You just have to find a team that has that, and can afford his salary.

Well just traded him I was going to go for Pietrangelo but I decided something else and hope it works out.

                              To Boston:
                              Nathan MacKinnon
                              Erik Johnson (85 Overall)

                              To Colorado:
                              Zdeno Chara (94 Overall)
                              Alexander Khokhlachev
                              3rd round pick

I thought it was pretty good Johnson won't be expected as a replacement for Chara but at 3.75 mill for the next 3 years he can fill out the top 4. And Mackinnon will be a super star he was 84 overall in year 3 when I acquired him on my flames GM and he didnt play a NHL game till that year.

                              Also

                              To Boston:
                              Cam Ward

                              To Carolina:
                              Tukka Rask
                              2nd round pick
                              6 and 7 round pick

Ward was probably the most consistent goalie I had back in NHL 12 and 13 so hopefully he is more the same here and Rask always had something wrong with him since when I was playing my Flames GM the Bruins where never in the playoffs much and Rask was never a top goalie.
