I adjusted the way the skating ratings are calculated so there is slightly more of a spread. It now factors in:
-Size (above vs below average NHL size, which is 6"1, 200 lbs)
-Offensive production
-Defensive skill

Abdelkader benefits because he regularly plays against the most difficult competition and plays heavy PK minutes, even though he is an average offensive talent. Athanaisiou's speed rating is still above average, but it isn't higher because he isn't relied on for defensive responsibility and isn't consistent enough offensively over a large enough sample size to warrant a higher rating.

Speed carries such a high weight in regards to OVR in the game, I felt it needed to be evaluated quantatatively, instread of using the basic eye test. In doing so, I wanted to make sure defensive specialists were rewarded just as much as the premier offensive players.

Hey Cycloniac.

How are the rosters coming along? Here is a tidbit of information just posted over on the EA forums. Kind of jaw dropping, but per the NHLDEV:

"Poise isn't currently used in gameplay. It may still be used in the sim engine."

Have you seen any difference with that attribute or any others that may/may not affect game play?

Roster will be done in a few days, all NHL teams completed up to Vancouver.

I agree with the dev, poise only matters in the playoffs/sims. It is based on age in the roster this year i.e. veterans will have higher poise, teams will need to have a good balance of young players and veterans to succeed come playoff time. Poise also grows as players age.
