talking with NHL Dev About Attribute Effects

I just finished talking with NHL Developer at NHL Forums, regarding attribute Effects, here's what he said in his reply.

NHL Developer to SuperGoalies (EvanAshopenace)

"As with all sliders, it is a choice. I think 5 is the best as it gives the fullest range. If you move it up or down, you are moving the ceiling down or the floor up and at some point are crushing your range. It's a choice though if you want to move the whole range up or down though. At 5 you are getting the stats exactly as they are so I would go with that and use the individual gameplay sliders if you want to see something have more or less of an effect. "

Here's My Question I Asked NHL Developer Prior to him Responding

SuperGoalies to NHL Developer Prior to Him Responding

"I have another question, regarding 'Attribute Effects', would putting Attributes Effects: 10, help with overall gameplay, compared to attributes effects: 5, now that we got ratings matter out the way, would attributes effects: 10 help ? in any way, would that make gaming better.

how big is separation would it be, would quality of life offline be better or worse , or would it make AI CPU more smarter or super good or more harder, that u have to be prepared for ?

would giving attributes effects: 10 good advice or bad ? "

Re: talking with NHL Dev About Attribute Effects

Best piece of info I've seen come out of this sub-forum in weeks. Thanks for sharing!

So, I had a pretty mistaken idea of what this slider was then. I thought it influenced players to play more true to their ratings the higher it went, on a scale of:

0 = Arcade/User skill overrides ratings
to
10 = Sim/Ratings heavily influence gameplay.

If it shifts the player ratings themselves on a scale, that's a whole other ballgame. That makes it more reminiscent of the speed parity slider, for those of you who play Madden. And that concern of crunching the ratings at the upper levels is absolutely right - at 10 it would mean that just about any top-line forward would be playing more like Ovechkin or Crosby. It's not hard to see how badly that would unbalance gameplay.

I've been playing with the slider at 5 for a while now and have been enjoying it (much more so than when I had it at 10), and this info helps validate those results even more.

The way I've understood this slider is that it increases the spread of ratings in-game. So yes, the ratings are "shifted" on a scale i.e. an 80 may be closer to a 70 and a 90 closer to a 99. If you're using EA's default roster, or a roster with a similar rating scale, I would still say this slider at 10 provides the best, most realistic in-game results.

10 = most seperation
5 = default, attributes are not changed under the hood
0 = least seperation
