Re: TNK NHL 20 SLIDERS

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 2
Game #4 - Boston Bruins @ Toronto Maple Leafs
(Boston leads series 2-1)

1st Period - The Maple Leafs were coming off a huge OT victory in game #3 and came out flying to begin game #4 as Marner and Reilly each had scoring chances in the opening minute of play. The Bruins were able to survive the initial pressure and quieted the crowd just 3:41 into the game on their first shot when Danton Heinen worked his way to the high slot and snapped a shot past Andersen to give Boston a 1-0 lead. The Bruins would extend their lead on a wild sequence late in the period when Rask made a great save to deny Muzzin and Pastrnak would take a big hit to make a play and send Bergeron the other way where Andersen would stop his initial shot but Bergeron was able to corral the rebound and roof the puck from a tight angle to make it 2-0 with 6:11 to play in the period. Boston kept coming and Pastrnak would race up ice on an odd man rush and set up Marchand for a goal to make it 3-0 with 2:48 left in the period. Andreas Johnsson was called for slashing with 6 seconds left to put Boston on the PP and the period would come to an end as the Bruins get off to a great start in game #4 and head to the intermission with a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Toronto was not playing that poorly as the shots were 14-10 in favor of Boston but the Bruins were able to capitalize on their chances.

2nd Period - Boston would begin the 2nd period with a 3-0 lead and 1:54 of PP time carrying over on the penalty to Johnsson. The Bruins struggled to get quality looks on the PP and Toronto would get on the board when Kasperi Kapanen got a step on McAvoy and his shot broke through Rask for a huge shorthanded goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 18:19 to play in the period. The crowd was now back in the game after the goal by Kapanen and Toronto would score 59 seconds later when Rask stopped a chance by Spezza but Andreas Johnsson was there to stuff the rebound past Rask to cut the Bruins lead to 3-2 and we suddenly had a one goal game. The Bruins responded with some solid shifts and had chances but Andersen would come up with some big saves to keep it a one goal game as we reached the midway point of the period. Toronto would get the equalizer a few minutes later when Jason Spezza dug the puck out of a net front scrum and put it past Rask as Toronto battles all the way back from 3-0 down to tie the game 3-3 with 6:37 remaining in the 2nd period. The Bruins responded 2 minutes later on a great shift as they had the Leafs pinned in their own end and Grzelcyk would go D to D across the blue line to Moore who put a shot on net that Andersen stopped but Jake Debrusk was at the post and batted the puck out of midair into the net for a huge goal to swing the momentum back to Boston and give the Bruins a 4-3 lead with 4:27 left in the period. The 2nd period would come to an end with the Bruins leading 4-3 and out-shooting the Leafs 31-27 through two periods

3rd Period - The Bruins would begin the 3rd period with a 4-3 lead and looking to put together a strong effort in the final 20 minutes and get out of Toronto with a 3-1 series lead while the Maple Leafs will be playing with a sense of urgency as they try to even up the series. The Bruins were playing tight defensively in the opening minutes of the period and limiting the options for Toronto as Boston tries to protect the 4-3 lead. The Bruins would get a big goal to extend their lead when Patrice Bergeron won an offensive zone draw back to Krug who slid the puck over to Brandon Carlo and he would blow an absolute rocket past Andersen for a huge goal to make it 5-3 with 14:12 remaining. The Maple Leafs tried to push back with a good response on the next couple shifts but Rask denied Marner and Matthews on scoring chances and the score remained 5-3 as the clock ticked down under 10:00 to play in regulation. The Maple Leafs had some tremendous pressure with 7:00 to play as they maintained possession in the offensive zone for well over a minute but Rask came up with a couple tough stops and John Moore made a fantastic defensive play as Rielly ripped a slap shot wide and the puck came out to Nylander on the far side with an open net to shoot at but Moore went down to the ice for a diving shot block and the puck would sail over the glass allowing Boston to get fresh legs on the ice and calm things down with 5:51 to play. Boston was making safe plays and getting the puck deep as they tried to bleed as much clock as possible and the clock would wind down under 3:00 to play. Toronto was running out of time as we entered the final 2:00 of regulation and they would get Andersen off for the extra attacker with just over 1:00 to play. Boston would put the nail in the coffin when Patrice Bergeron crossed center ice and fired the puck into the empty net with 35 seconds remaining to finish off a 6-3 Bruins victory

* The Bruins and Maple Leafs treated fans to a wild game #4 that saw Boston take a 3-0 1st period lead only for Toronto to battle back with 3 goals in the 2nd period to tie the game 3-3 before Boston took the lead back late in the 2nd period and the Bruins would play a solid 3rd period to win 6-3 and take a 3-1 series lead

* The Bruins bounce back after the crushing OT loss in game #3 and now have the Maple Leafs on the brink of elimination as Boston leads the series 3-1

* Patrice Bergeron had a monster night for Boston as he scored 2 goals and assisted on 2 others for a 4 point night. Bergeron also played his usual outstanding defensive hockey and won several key faceoffs in what was a fantastic game from the Bruins legend in what could be the pivotal game of the series

* Brad Marchand scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs and added an assist for Boston

* Tuukka Rask stopped 35 of 38 shots in another strong game from the Bruins goaltender

* Frederik Andersen stopped 39 of 44 shots for Toronto

* The series shifts back to Boston for Game #5 with the Bruins leading the series 3-1. Boston will be looking to eliminate the Maple Leafs and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals while the Maple Leafs need to win in Boston and force a Game #6 back in Toronto

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 2
Game #5- Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins
(Boston leads series 3-1)

The Bruins and Maple Leafs are set to play Game #5 at TD Garden with the Bruins looking to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and eliminate the Maple Leafs for the third consecutive season while the Leafs have their backs against the wall and need a win to stay alive and force the series back to Toronto for Game #6

1st Period - The Bruins and leafs were both playing safe hockey in the early going as they were feeling each other out and being extra cautious with the puck. The intensity started to ramp up after 5:00 of play and Charlie McAvoy would lay a thunderous open ice hit on Mitch Marner that sent Marner down the tunnel with the trainer with 12:00 left in the period. Boston was dominating puck possession and had a 10-1 shots advantage as we hit the midway mark of the 1st period. The Bruins would open the scoring when Karson Kuhlman used his speed to get around Ceci and fired a cross ice pass to Charlie Coyle crashing to the far post for the games first goal giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 7:26 to play in the period. The Bruins were controlling play until Carlo coughed the puck up in the neutral zone and William Nylander would race in and score on a breakaway to tie the game up 1-1 with 3:29 left in the period on just the 2nd Toronto shot of the game. The 1st period would conclude with the score tied 1-1 despite Boston out-shooting Toronto 17-4

2nd Period - The Bruins continued to control play in the 2nd period but Andersen was standing on his head in the Toronto net and the score remained tied 1-1 until midway through the period when David Krejci redirected a Chara shot that changed direction and broke through Andersen and rolled over the line for a goal to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead with 11:33 left in the period. The Maple Leafs strung together a few consecutive shifts where they had heavy pressure in the offensive zone but Rask was sharp in the Boston net and came up with his biggest save of the night when he denied Auston Matthews on a breakaway late in the period. The 2nd period would come to an end with the Bruins leading 2-1 and holding a 30-16 edge in shots through 40 minutes of play

3rd Period - The Bruins would head to the 3rd period leading by a score of 2-1 and need to be ready for the Maple Leafs to come out flying as their season is on the line and Toronto is 20 minutes away from elimination. Toronto would capitalize on a turnover by Chara early in the period and Patrick Marleau would score his first goal of the playoffs for a huge game tying goal to make it 2-2 with 15:17 to play. The Maple Leafs would strike again just over a minute later when Kerfoot came out from behind the net and found Justin Williams at the far post for the tap in goal and suddenly Toronto had a 3-2 lead and the TD Garden crowd was stunned as the Bruins found themselves trailing 3-2 with 14:16 left to play in regulation. The Bruins would respond a few minutes later when Bergeron won an offensive zone faceoff back to Zdeno Chara who wound up and blew a slap shot past Andersen for a goal that tied game 3-3 and electrified the TD Garden crowd setting the stage for what will be a heart stopping finish as we are all tied up 3-3 with 11:54 remaining. The Bruins would take the lead a little over a minute later on a great play by Charlie Coyle who took a pass from Heinen and showed pure determination as he out-muscled Rielly on his way to the slot and roofed a shot up under the crossbar to give Boston a 4-3 lead with 10:27 left to play. Toronto had a great chance a few minutes later when Dermott threaded the needle with a long pass to spring Johnsson for a breakaway but Rask came up with a huge stop and froze the puck with 7:21 to play. The Maple Leafs would win the ensuing faceoff and Nylander would put a shot towards the net that hit off the leg of Alexander Kerfoot tot he side of the net and went in for a game tying goal as Toronto tied the game up at 4-4 with 7:04 remaining. The clock would wind down under 4:00 to play in regulation with the score still tied 4-4 and everyone in the arena on their feet. The Maple Leafs would get a huge PP opportunity when the referees who stayed out of the game all night decided to call the games first penalty as Coyle went to the box for hooking to put Toronto on the PP with 1:45 remaining. The Bruins PK unit was doing a great job early in the PP and Kuraly would clear the puck as the clock ticked under 1:00 to play. The Maple Leafs got set up with 0:38 to play and worked the puck around leading to a great chance when Barrie fired a shot that was deflected on the way in but Rask got a pad on it and John Moore was able to chip the puck out to center ice with 0:18 remaining where Rielly gathered the puck and passed to Kapanen as the Leafs tried to re-enter the zone but Patrice Bergeron got his stick in the lane to break up the pass and start a two on one rush the other way with Brad Marchand against Barrie with time running out and Bergeron would saucer a beautiful pass over the stick of Barrie right on the tape of Marchand who roofed the shot over Andersen who was stretched out trying to make the desperation save for an incredible shorthanded goal to give the Bruins a 5-4 lead with 0:05 remaining on the clock as TD Garden erupted into pandemonium. The Maple Leafs were completely stunned and the ensuing faceoff was just a formality as the remaining five seconds ticked away and the Bruins stormed the ice to celebrate as they win game #5 in thrilling fashion 5-4

* The Bruins and Maple Leafs played an instant classic in Game #5 that was back and forth throughout and saw the teams trade 6 goals in the 3rd period as Toronto scored a pair of goals to go ahead 3-2 before Boston answered with a pair of goals to take a 4-3 lead. Toronto would tie the game 4-4 with 7:04 remaining and went on a PP with under 2:00 to play only to have Brad Marchand score the game & series winning shorthanded goal with 0:05 on the clock

* The Bruins win Game #5 by a 5-4 score and win the series 4-1 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals

* The Maple Leafs suffer another heartbreak in Boston as the Bruins eliminate them from the playoffs for the 3rd straight season on TD Garden ice

* Charlie Coyle scored 2 goals for Boston as he continues his outstanding playoff as Coyle leads the team with 10 points (4 G / 6 A)

* Patrice Bergeron has been outstanding since returning to the lineup in Game #3 and Bergeron recorded 6 points (2 G / 4 A) in the final two games of the series

* Zdeno Chara scored his 1st goal of the playoffs and added 2 assists

* The Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference Finals where they will face the Pittsburgh Penguins who defeated the Washington Capitals in 6 games

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #1- Pittsburgh Penguins @ Boston Bruins
(Series tied 0-0)

The Bruins and Penguins are set to begin the Eastern Conference Finals in Boston with Game #1 at TD Garden. The Bruins begin the series at full health with no injuries while the Penguins are also completely healthy aside from Jake Guentzel who is playing through injured ribs. Matt Murray will be in net for Pittsburgh and started all 12 playoff games for the Penguins posting a 2.90 GAA and .898 Save% while Boston will go with Tuukka Rask who has started all 10 playoff games for the Bruins posting a 2.36 GAA and .910 Save%

1st Period - The Bruins and Penguins each had a scoring chance in the opening minutes as Charlie McAvoy unloaded a slap shot that drilled Murray off the mask and Brian Dumoulin hit the post with a shot through a screen. Boston would open the scoring 7:19 in when Patrice Bergeron won an offensive zone faceoff back to Chara who slid it across the blue line to McAvoy who put a low hard shot on net and Bergeron would get a stick on it to redirect it past Murray giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 12:41 to play in the period. The Penguins responded with some heavy pressure on the ensuing shift but Rask was able to deny the flurry of shots and Aston-Reese would take a hooking penalty to put Boston on the PP. The Bruins would strike quick on the man advantage as they moved the puck around and Bergeron would tip a Krug shot past Murray for his 2nd goal of the game making it 2-0 with 10:37 left in the period. Pittsburgh went on the PP with 6:20 left in the period but failed to convert as the Bruins PK unit and Rask did a good job and the score remained 2-0. Jared McCann tried to give the Penguins a spark when he dropped the gloves with Danton Heinen after a big hit in the corner. Chris Wagner was called for hooking with 4 seconds to play in the period to put Pittsburgh on another PP as the period came to an end with Boston leading 2-0 and holding a 13-10 edge in shots.

2nd Period - The Penguins began the 2nd period with 1:56 of PP time carrying over but the Bruins got some solid work from the PK unit and would return to even strength. Pittsburgh started to control play and would get another PP opportunity when Bjork was called for a hook and this time the Penguins would cash in as Rask stopped a low hard shot from Letang and Patric Hornqvist would score on the rebound to cut the Bruins lead to 2-1 with 12:11 left in the period. Pittsburgh would get another PP when Marchand went to the box for tripping and the Penguins had a number of chances on the PP but Rask was standing on his head in the Bruins net making several tough saves. The Bruins would survive the PK and extend their lead on a great play as Rask cleared the puck out and hit Marchand coming out of the box for a breakaway and he would beat Murray with a move to the backhand to increase the Boston lead to 3-1 with 5:52 remaining in the period. Pittsburgh continued to out-skate the Bruins in the 2nd period and would go on the PP with 2:25 left when Wagner was called for hooking and Rask would come up big again with some clutch saves allowing Boston to kill off the penalty to Wagner. The 2nd period would come to an end as the Penguins out-shot the Bruins 18-6 in the period and now had a 28-19 edge in shots for the game but they would go to the 2nd intermission trailing by two goals as Boston had a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes

3rd Period - The Penguins would go on their 7th PP of the game early in the 3rd period and had good puck movement leading to a number a quality looks but Rask continued to turn everything aside and Boston would kill off the Carlo penalty and the score remained 3-1. The Bruins would extend the lead a few minutes later on a great effort by Karson Kuhlman as he deked through Riikola and fired a shot that was stopped by Murray but Kuhlman followed his shot and scored on the rebound to make it 4-1 with 13:54 remaining. The clock would wind down under 10:00 to play and Pittsburgh would get a goal when Rask stopped a shot that was tipped by Rust on its way in but Jared McCann was stationed at the post and stuffed the puck in on the rebound to give the Penguins life as they cut the deficit to 4-2 with 8:09 remaining. The Penguins were unable to build on the momentum from the McCann goal as Schultz and Rust took penalties putting Boston on back to back powerplays and Boston would cash in on the second PP chance when David Krejci came off the wall and beat Murray with a snap shot to make it 5-2 with 5:21 left to play. There would be no more scoring as the Bruins take game #1 by a score of 5-2

* The Bruins win Game #1 of the Eastern Conference Finals by a score of 5-2 despite being out-shot 34-27 as the Penguins carried play for much of the game but the Bruins capitalized on their chances and Tuukka Rask played great in net to give Boston a 1-0 series lead

* Tuukka Rask was outstanding for Boston and was the difference in this game as he stopped 32 of 34 shots

* The Bruins PK unit had a big night as they held the Penguins to 1 for 7 on the PP

* Patrice Bergeron stayed hot scoring 2 goals for Boston and now has 8 points (4 G / 4 A) in the last 3 games

* Brad Marchand scored his 5th of the playoffs and added an assist while Charlie Coyle picked up 2 assists and now has 12 points (4 G / 8 A) in the playoffs

* Matt Murray had a rough night allowing 5 goals on 27 shots in the Pittsburgh net

* The Bruins did a great job of neutralizing Crosby and Malkin who were virtually invisible in this game as they combined for zero points, a minus 2 rating and the Penguins star duo registered just 2 shots on net between them

* The Bruins lead the series 1-0 with Game #2 coming up in Boston as the Bruins look to take a 2-0 series lead while Pittsburgh will be looking to bounce back and even the series at 1-1 before heading to Pittsburgh for Game #3 & Game #4

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #2- Pittsburgh Penguins @ Boston Bruins
(Boston leads series 1-0)

1st Period - The Penguins got off to a quick start as they came out flying and Patric Hornqvist would beat Rask on a one timer feed from Bjugstad just 4:18 into the game to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. The Bruins were struggling to generate offensive chances as the Penguins were defending well and the 1st period would come to an end with Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and holding a 10-7 edge in shots after 20 minutes of play.

2nd Period - The Bruins came out flying to begin the 2nd period and were controlling play through the first 10 minutes of the period but the score remained 1-0 as they could not get the puck past Murray who was having a nice bounce back game after a poor performance in Game #1. Boston continued to get the better chances in the late stages of the period but Murray was on his game in the Pittsburgh net and the 2nd period would conclude with the Penguins leading 1-0 and the shots were 22-17 in favor of Boston through 40 minutes

3rd Period -The Bruins would head to the 3rd period trailing 1-0 and in need of some offense if they are going to come from behind and win this game while Pittsburgh is looking to hang on and even the series. The Penguins would go on the PP early and Hornqvist would score his 2nd goal of the night to push the Pittsburgh lead to 2-0 with 17:57 left to play. The Bruins were carrying the play and generating tons of chances as they try to claw back into this game but Murray continued to be locked in and was stopping everything the Bruins threw at him as the game entered the final 10 minutes of regulation with the Penguins leading 2-0. Boston would get a big PP opportunity when Bryan Rust went to the box for slashing with 6:52 remaining and the Bruins really need to convert on this PP chance. Boston would set up on the man advantage and had a number of good looks but failed to score on the PP as Murray was up to 36 saves in the game and the Penguins would get back to even strength with 4:52 remaining. The Bruins would get Rask off for the extra attacker with a little over 1:00 to play and they would get a quick goal as they finally beat Murray when David Pastrnak scored his 1st goal of the playoffs to cut the Penguins lead to 2-1 with 0:50 remaining. The Bruins would use their timeout to rest up the Bergeron line and go over a plan as they still have 50 seconds left to try and pull off a miracle comeback. Boston would get Rask off again for the extra man with 0:37 left and had chances as the clock wound down but Murray came up big and denied Marchand point blank with 0:02 left and time would expire as the Penguins hang on for a hard fought 2-1 victory to win Game #2

* The Penguins get a standout performance in net from Matt Murray and grind out a hard fought 2-1 victory in Game #2 to even the series at 1-1

* The Bruins played well and were the better team but just could not capitalize on their scoring chances as they peppered Murray with 44 shots and scored just 1 goal which came in the final minute with the goalie pulled

* Matt Murray bounced back after a poor performance in Game #1 with an incredible effort in Game #2 as he stopped 43 of 44 shots to steal the game for Pittsburgh

* Patric Hornqvist scored both of the Pittsburgh goals and now has 9 goals in the playoffs as he is making a case for Conn Smythe consideration if the Penguins win the Stanley Cup

* David Pastrnak scored the lone Boston goal and it was his first goal of the playoffs as Pastrnak has pretty much been invisible so far in the playoffs. The Bruins need Pastrnak to get going offensively if they are going to advance to the Finals

* Tuukka Rask was solid in net for Boston stopping 23 of 25 shots in the losing effort

* The series is all tied up at 1-1 and will now shift to PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh for games #3 and #4. The Bruins have responded with terrific games after each of their losses so far in the playoffs and will be looking for the same in what is sure to be a difficult environment with a raucous crowd in Pittsburgh.

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #3- Boston Bruins @ Pittsburgh Penguins
(Series tied 1-1)

1st Period - The Bruins would strike first 6:53 into the game when Krejci won an offensive zone faceoff back to Moore who passed over to Grzelcyk for a slap shot that was stopped by Murray but Anders Bjork was right there to slam home the rebound giving Boston a 1-0 lead. The Bruins were playing a great road period keeping things simple offensively while staying within their structure and playing physical defensively. Boston would increase their lead to 2-0 when Pastrnak came flying up the wing and fired a rocket off the post and Brad Marchand was able to collect the puck and slide it past Murray with 8:04 remaining in the period. The Penguins had a PP opportunity but failed to convert and Boston would strike again as Heinen came in on an odd man rush and set up Charlie Coyle for a beautiful goal to push the Bruins lead to 3-0 with 4:00 left in the period. The 1st period would come to an end with a stunned PPG Paints Arena crowd booing the Penguins off the ice as they trail the Bruins 3-0 after 20 minutes of play with the shots 13-5 in favor of Boston

2nd Period - The Penguins would get on the board when Dumoulin fired a long shot from the point that was redirected by Jared McCann and the puck would sneak by Rask for a big goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 13:29 to play in the period. Pittsburgh was energized and they would score again a little over a minute later when Rask stopped a shot from Malkin but Jake Guentzel was there to score on the rebound and suddenly we had a 3-2 game with 12:06 left in the period. The crowd was now on their feet and the Penguins were flying as they had momentum and they would tie the game up late in the period when Krug's breakout pass was broken up along the boards and Guentzel would find Crosby alone in the slot for the game tying goal with 4:16 remaining in the period as the Penguins have battled back to tie the score at 3-3. The Bruins were in survival mode as Pittsburgh was dominating play in the final minutes but the buzzer would sound and Boston would get out of the period with the score still tied at 3-3. The Bruins had a 26-21 advantage in shots after 40 minutes

3rd Period - The stage was set for what should be an exciting 3rd period as the score was tied 3-3 with 20 minutes to decide a winner in Game #3. The Bruins started off the period with some good shifts as they were able to generate a few chances but Murray would make the saves and the score remained 3-3. Boston would get a big PP opportunity when McCann was called for hooking with 13:09 remaining. Boston would move the puck around nicely and generate some good looks on the man advantage but they failed to convert on the PP and the Penguins would get back to even strength. The clock would wind down under 10:00 to play in regulation with the score still tied 3-3 and Boston carrying play in the 3rd period as we head for what is sure to be a heart pounding finish to this game. The Bruins would take the lead when Danton Heinen won a race to the puck after Karson Kuhlman chipped it in deep towards the corner and Heinen would find Charlie Coyle in the high slot for a one timer that he blew past Murray for a huge goal to give the Bruins a 4-3 lead with 8:16 remaining. Boston almost scored again on the ensuing shift when Murray committed grand larceny as he stopped a shot from Kuraly and the rebound went to Wagner who fired at the mostly open net and Murray would make a diving save to rob Wagner and keep it a 4-3 game. The clock would tick down to the final 5:00 of regulation with Boston leading 4-3 in what has been a strong 3rd period from the Bruins. The Penguins had a great chance when Galchenyuk got the puck in the slot but Rask made a huge pad save and froze the puck for a faceoff with 3:11 remaining. The Bruins were making safe plays and trying to bleed clock by getting pucks deep as the clock continued to tick away and Murray would head to the bench for the extra attacker with just over 1:00 to play. The Penguins were pushing hard for the equalizer but Boston would put the game away on a great effort by Chara as he knocked Crosby off the puck at the blue line before skating it through the neutral zone and sending it into the empty net to finish off a hard fought 5-3 victory for Boston in Game #3

* The Bruins win 5-3 in a wild Game #3 that was a story of 3 periods as Boston dominated the 1st period taking a 3-0 lead only for Pittsburgh to come out and dominate the 2nd period as they scored 3 goals to battle their way back to a 3-3 tie after two periods. The Bruins responded with an outstanding 3rd period effort as they controlled play in the 3rd and Charlie Coyle would score the game winner on his 2nd goal of the game with 8:16 left and Boston would add an empty netter

* Charlie Coyle continues his terrific playoff and is an early favorite for the Conn Smythe if Boston can win the cup as he scored 2 goals including the game winner. Coyle leads Boston in playoff scoring with 6 goals & 8 assists for 14 points

* Zdeno Chara scored a goal and added 2 assists as the Bruins captain stepped up big time

* Sidney Crosby scored just his 2nd goal of the playoffs for Pittsburgh and the Penguins will need Corsby and Malkin to get going if they want to win this series

* Tuukka Rask stopped 22 of 25 shots in the win for Boston

* Matt Murray stopped 40 of 44 shots for Pittsburgh in the loss

* Brad Marchand scored his 6th goal of the playoffs for Boston

* The Bruins take a 2-1 series lead and will have a chance to take a commanding 3-1 lead if they can find a way to win Game #4 and send the series back to Boston with a chance to advance to the finals while the Penguins will be looking at Game #4 as a must win to avoid dropping both games at home as they'll be trying to send the series back to Boston tied at 2-2 for Game #5

Re: TNK NHL 20 SLIDERS

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #4- Boston Bruins @ Pittsburgh Penguins
(Boston leads series 2-1)

1st Period - The Bruins and Penguins played a tight checking 1st period with neither team generating many quality scoring chances as both teams played well defensively. Pittsburgh would go on the PP with 11 seconds left in the period on a slashing penalty to Kuhlman and the period would come to an end with the score tied 0-0 and the shots were 9-5 in favor of Boston

2nd Period - The Penguins began the 2nd period with 1:49 of PP time carrying over on the penalty to Kuhlman but they failed to convert on the man advantage. Kuhlman would redeem himself as he drew a penalty with some strong work down low as Crosby took a hooking penalty to put Boston on their first PP with 15:56 to play in the period. Boston had some good puck movement on the PP but Murray came up with a couple big saves and the Penguins would return to even strength with the score still tied 0-0. The Bruins would get the games first goal less than a minute later as they had the puck in the offensive zone and Carlo would miss the net with a slap shot but the puck would end up on the stick of Bjork who tapped it to Debrusk behind the net and he would swing it around the boards to Torey Krug who came off the wall and blew a slap shot past Murray to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 13:01 left in the period. The Bruins would extend the lead a few minutes later when Bergeron created a turnover on the forecheck and Brad Marchand would finish off a nice feed from Pastrnak to push the Boston lead to 2-0 midway through the period. Pittsburgh would respond a couple minutes later when Bjugstad fought his way out of the corner and found Brandon Tanev in front for the tap in goal to cut it 2-1 with 7:40 remaining in the period. John Moore took a tripping penalty late in the period and Pittsburgh had a number of excellent chances on the PP but Rask came up with some huge stops to keep it a 2-1 game as the Bruins get a big PK. Pittsburgh had heavy pressure with 3:00 left in the period and Rask made a couple big saves to deny Crosby and Guentzel as the Penguins were starting to dominate play. Brandon Tanev was called for tripping with 1:25 to play in the period putting Boston on the PP with a chance to extend the lead and they had a couple looks before the period would end but Murray made the stops and we would go to the 2nd intermission with the Bruins leading 2-1 and the shots were 26-21 in favor of Boston

3rd Period - The Bruins would begin the 3rd period with 35 seconds of PP time remaining on the Tanev penalty but the Pens would kill it off and get back to even strength as we are headed to what should be a great finish as the Bruins lead 2-1 in what could be the biggest period of this series. The Bruins were playing with purpose and making good decisions as they protect the 2-1 lead and Pittsburgh was struggling to create scoring chances early in the period. The Penguins started to find their game midway through the period and Jack Johnson walked into the high slot and wound up for a slap shot but Karson Kuhlman sacrificed his body and went down to the ice for a big shot block that left him hunched over in pain as he made his way to the bench. The clock ticked under 10:00 to play in regulation with Boston trying to hang on to a 2-1 lead when Sidney Crosby used his speed to create a partial breakaway and Crosby was awarded a penalty shot after he was tripped up by Grzlecyk. The PPG Paints Arena crowd was on their feet as Crosby came skated in with the puck on his penalty shot attempt and he would beat Rask with a deke to the forehand to tie the game up at 2-2 setting the stage for what is sure to be a thrilling finish with 9:12 remaining in regulation. The intensity was increasing with each passing minutes as the clock ticked down under 5:00 to play in regulation with the score tied 2-2. Tuukka Rask made his biggest stop of the night with 1:04 left when Bjugstad got the puck in the high slot and fired a rocket but Rask flashed the glove and froze the puck for a faceoff. The 3rd period would come to an end and the game would head to overtime tied at 2-2. The Bruins out-shot the Penguins 36-28 in regulation.

OT Period - Game #4 was headed to overtime and the stakes were high as the next goal will either send the Bruins back to Boston leading the series 3-1 or the Penguins will even up the series at 2-2. The puck was dropped in OT and Pittsburgh would gain possession and enter the Bruins zone where Charlie McAvoy caught Sidney Crosby with his head down and delivered a thunderous hit that left Crosby behind the play as Brad Marchand picked up the loose puck and raced up the wing all the way into the corner and behind the Pittsburgh net where he attempted a wraparound that was denied by Murray but Patrice Bergeron was crashing the net with Letang draped all over him and Bergeron was able to whack the rebound into the net for the game winner just 28 seconds into overtime as the Bruins win 3-2 in OT to take Game #4

* The Bruins and Penguins battled to a 2-2 tie through 60 minutes as Game #4 went to overtime where Patrice Bergeron won it for Boston just 0:28 into OT to give the Bruins a hard fought 3-2 victory

* The Bruins win both games in Pittsburgh to take a 3-1 series lead and Boston is one win away from making a return trip to the Stanley Cup Finals

* Patrice Bergeron scored the OT game winner for his 6th goal of the playoffs and added an assist as he continues his outstanding play since returning from an injury suffered in the opening round against New jersey

* Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 28 shots in another solid performance from the Bruins netminder

* Matt Murray stopped 35 of 38 shots in the losing effort for Pittsburgh

* Brad Marchand scored his 7th goal of the playoffs for Boston and added an assist while Torey Krug scored his 1st goal of the playoffs

* Sidney Crosby scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs on a penalty shot to tie the game in the 3rd period and Crosby now has goals in each of the last two games

* The series will head back to Boston at what is sure to be a raucous TD Garden for Game #5 with the Bruins leading the series 3-1 and needing one more win to return to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second straight season. The Penguins are sure to bring their best effort as they are facing elimination and will need to win the next 3 games

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #5- Pittsburgh Penguins @ Boston Bruins
(Boston leads series 3-1)

The Eastern Conference Finals shift back to TD Garden in Boston for Game #5 with the Bruins leading the series 3-1 and looking to finish off the Penguins and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the seconds consecutive season. The Penguins need a win to avoid elimination as they look to stay alive and force a Game #6 in Pittsburgh

1st Period - The game was scoreless midway through the 1st period with the shots 6-2 in favor of Boston as both teams were playing well defensively in the early going. Boston would get the games first PP opportunity when Malkin was called for hooking with just under 9:00 to play in the period. The Bruins had some good looks on the PP but Murray was sharp in the Penguins net and made some quality stops allowing Pittsburgh to kill it off and get back to even strength. The Bruins were controlling play late in the period and Murray came up with a huge reflex save to rob Sean Kuraly with the pad on a second chance opportunity with just under 5:00 left in the period. The Bruins would break through for the games first goal when Bjork used his speed to create an odd man rush and Debrusk would slide the puck over to David Krejci who scored for his 5th goal of the playoffs to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 1:16 remaining in the period. Boston would come right back with another quick strike as McAvoy passed to Karson Kuhlman who came across the blue line and beat Murray with a gorgeous snap shot top corner to make it 2-0 with 43 seconds left in the period. The Bruins would head to the dressing room with a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play and had a 14-5 edge in shots

2nd Period - The Bruins would extend the lead to 3 goals just 1:09 into the 2nd period on an outstanding effort from David Pastrnak when he poked the puck away from Schultz at his own blue line and won a race to the puck in the neutral zone to create a breakaway and Pastrnak would beat Murray as the Bruins have scored 3 goals in the last 2:25 of play to take a 3-0 lead. The Penguins started to push back a bit and create some scoring chances but Rask came up with some tough saves and the score remained 3-0 as we move to the late stages of the 2nd period. The Penguins were controlling play in the final minutes of the period but were unable to score and the 2nd period would come to an end with Boston leading 3-0 and out-shooting the Penguins 24-15

3rd Period - The Bruins would begin the 3rd period with a 3-0 lead and were just 20 minutes away from a trip to the Finals. Boston will need to be ready for Pittsburgh to come out flying and playing with desperation as they will need a miracle if they're going to come back in the final 20 minutes to stave off elimination and force a game #6. Boston would get a big insurance goal early in the 3rd period when Zdeno Chara blasted a slap shot through a screen that beat Murray to make it 4-0 with 16:25 remaining. Pittsburgh would get on the board a few minutes later when Evgeni Malkin scored to cut the Bruins lead to 4-1 with 13:54 to play. The Penguins came right back off the ensuing faceoff and Jack Johnson would take a feed from Malkin and beat Rask as suddenly the Penguins score two goals in a span of 22 seconds to make it a 4-2 game with 13:32 remaining. The Penguins suddenly had life and momentum and they would get a huge PP opportunity when Kuraly was called for hooking with 11:21 to play but Boston would get some key saves from Rask and the PK unit came up with a huge kill as they returned to even strength with 9:21 left in regulation and the Bruins now trying to protect a 4-2 lead. Pittsburgh was all over the Bruins as they were trying to pull off a comeback for the ages and they would get a big PP chance when Kuhlman was sent to the box for interference with 5:53 left to play. The Bruins got some great work from the PK unit as they delivered a huge kill as the Penguins failed to convert on the man advantage as Boston returned to even strength with under 4:00 to play and the Bruins leading 4-2. The Penguins efforts to comeback would fall short as the clock continued to wind down and they would get Murray off for the extra attacker and Anders Bjork would put the game away when he stole the puck in the neutral zone and buried the empty net goal to start the celebration as the Bruins win 5-2 and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals

* The Bruins are the 2020 Eastern Conference Champions after beating the Penguins in Game #5 by a 5-2 score and winning the series 4-1 to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second straight season

* The Bruins improve to 12-3 in the playoffs as they have won all 3 of their series 4-1

* Tuukka Rask continues his outstanding playoffs and is one of the favorites to win the Conn Smythe as Rask is 12-3 in the playoffs with a 2.31 GAA and .914 Save %

* David Pastrnak and Anders Bjork each had 2 point nights with a goal and an assist as they each scored their 2nd goals of the playoffs

* Matt Murray allowed 4 goals on 32 shots for Pittsburgh

* The Bruins held Sidney Crosby to 2 goals & 1 assist in the series while Evgeni Malkin had 1 goal & 3 assists for Pittsburgh in the series.

* The Anaheim Ducks beat the Dallas Stars 4-2 in the Western Conference Finals and will advance to the Finals to face the Bruins

* Game #1 of the Stanley Cup Finals will be hosted by the Bruins at TD Garden as Boston will have home ice
* The Bruins and Ducks have each played outstanding hockey to get to the finals and the similarities between the two teams are striking as Anaheim has gone 12-4 in the playoffs while Boston has gone 12-3.
* The Ducks have been led offensively by Jakob Silfverberg who leads the team in playoff scoring with 14 points (6 goals / 8 assists)
* The Bruins have been led offesnively by Brad Marchand (7 goals / 7 assists) and Charlie Coyle (6 goals / 8 assists) who are tied for the team lead with 14 points each
* Tuukka Rask has posted a 2.31 GAA with a .914 Save% for Boston

The Bruins enter the series completely healthy while the Ducks are a bit banged up and will be without their star goalie John Gibson who was injured in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Ryan Miller will get the start in Game #1 of the finals for Anaheim while Boston will have Tuukka Rask in net.

Anaheim Ducks Injury Report
PosPlayerInjury Note
GJohn Gibson Back Spasms (could return late in series)
FAdam HenriqueSprained Ankle (could return Game #2 or #3)
DHampuis Lindholm Broken Leg (out for series)
DBrendan GuhleFractured Elbow (out for series)

1st Period - The game got off to a disastrous start for Boston as Anaheim won the opening faceoff and scored just 19 seconds into the game as Rask was forced to stop a one timer by Silfverberg and Ondrej Kase would bury the rebound to give the Ducks a quick 1-0 lead. The Bruins would answer right back just over a minute later when Krejci won an offensive zone draw and Torey Krug fired a rocket past Miller to tie the score 1-1 just 1:31 into the game. The Bruins struck again a few minutes later when Wagner found Sean Kuraly alone in the slot for a one timer to give Boston a 2-1 lead with 15:56 to play in the period. Things would settle down and the score remained 2-1 until the final minute of the period when Kuhlman made a great play to fight through Mahura along the boards and found Patrice Bergeron in the high slot and Bergeron would beat Miller with a low hard shot for a soft goal to give Boston a 3-1 lead with 0:30 left in the period. The Bruins had a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play and were out-shooting the Ducks 13-5

2nd Period - The Ducks had some chances early in the period but Rask was sharp in the Boston net and the score would remain 3-1 until past the midway mark of the period when Kyle Sherwood was called for slashing and Boston would cash in on the PP with a goal from Brad Marchand who took a feed from Debrusk and roofed it over Miller to give the Bruins a commanding 4-1 lead with 7:13 to play in the period. Anaheim would cut into the Boston lead late in the period when Shore found Isac Lundestrom with a cross ice pass for a one timer that beat Rask to make it a 4-2 game with 1:32 remaining in the period. The 2nd period could come to an end with Boston leading 4-2 and holding a 20-11 edge in shots after 40 minutes of action

3rd Period - The Bruins extended their lead on the opening shift of the 3rd period when Charlie McAvoy beat Miller through a screen with a point shot to increase the lead to 5-2 just 0:44 into the period. The Ducks would not go away though as they answered a couple minutes later when Rickard Rakell redirected a Ritchie shot past Rask to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 17:15 to play. The Ducks would make it a one goal game midway through the period when Sprong ripped a slap shot that Rask stopped with his mask but the puck bounced straight down and Nick Ritchie would stuff it in before Rask to cover the puck and suddenly we had a 5-4 game with 10:27 remaining in regulation. The Bruins would answer just over a minute later when Chara put a shot on net and Brad Marchand would tip it on the way in through the legs of Miller for his 2nd goal of the night and 9th of the playoffs to push the Bruins lead back to two goal at 6-4 with 9:17 remaining. The clock would wind down under 5:00 to play with Boston leading 6-4 while making safe plays and getting pucks deep to bleed clock. Anaheim would cut the Bruins lead to one goal on a great play by Sam Steel who took a breakout pass from Del Zotto and raced up ice beating Moore to the outside before tucking the puck short side by Rask to make it a 6-5 game with 3:40 remaining and setting the stage for what will be an exciting finish to Game #1. The Bruins were now clinging to a 6-5 lead and Rask was forced to make a big stop on a shot by Cam Fowler through traffic as the clock would tick down under 2:00 to play. Anaheim would get Miller to the bench for the extra attacker with 0:45 left and had some pressure in the closing seconds of the game skating 6 on 5 as both Fowler and Rackell had chances but Rask made the stops and Marchand would chip the puck to safety with 0:05 remaining and the Bruins would hold on for a 6-5 victory to take Game #1

* The Bruins and Ducks combined for 11 goals in a wild Game #1 with Boston holding on for a 6-5 victory to take a 1-0 series lead

* Brad Marchand scored 2 goals for Boston raising his team leading total to 9 goals in the playoffs

* Charlie McAvoy and Patrice Bergeron each scored a goal and added 2 assists to record 3 point nights. Torey Krug and Sean Kuraly also scored goals for Boston

* Nick Ritchie scored a goal and picked up an assist for Anaheim who also got goals from Ondrej Kase, Isac Lundestrom, Rickard Rackell and Sam Steel

* Tuukka Rask had an off night as he allowed 5 goals on 26 shots but made some key saves down the stretch to protect the lead and earn the win to improve to 13-3 in the playoffs
