TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #8 of Season
Boston Bruins (6-1-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (5-3-0)

1st Period - The Bruins got caught in their own end and were chasing the puck around with Toronto putting 4 shots on net on the opening shift and John Tavares would score on the rebound just 0:49 into the game to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. The Bruins responded a few minutes later when Sean Kuraly took a pass from Wagner on the rush and his wrist shot broke through Andersen for a goal to tie the game 1-1 with 16:38 left in the period. The Bruins would score again when Charlie Coyle hit the brakes and fired a beautiful cross ice pass to Danton Heinen who fired a rocket just inside the post to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead with 13:14 remaining in the period. Boston made it 3 consecutive goals when David Krejci picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, put the puck the outside to get around Dermott and beat Andersen with a move to the backhand for an unassisted goal making it 3-1 with 9:37 lef tin the period. The Maple Leafs dominated play in the final 5 minutes of the period and had some great chances but Halak came up with some big stops and a little bit of luck as Mitch Marner rang one off the post in the closing seconds and the period would come to an end with the Bruins leading 3-1 despite being out-shot 10-6 in the period.

2nd Period - Torey Krug went to the box for tripping just 1:37 into the 2nd period to put Toronto on their first PP of the game but Boston would kill it off with some solid work on the PK and the score remained 3-1. The Bruins would go on the PP with 14:02 to play in the period on a slashing penalty by Spezza and Boston would make the Leafs pay needing just 20 seconds as they won the ensuing faceoff, worked the puck around the zone to Coyle in the slot and he slid a pass to Heinen at the side of the net for his 2nd goal of the night to give the Bruins a 4-1 lead with 13:42 left in the period. Toronto would answer back less than a minute later when Cody Ceci shot through a screen beating Halak to make it 4-2 with 13:00 remaining in the period. The Maple Leafs were sparked by the Ceci goal and came right back with another one when Halak kicked out a shot by Tavares but the puck went right to Mitch Marner by the faceoff dot and Marner snapped a shot under the bar to make it a one goal game cutting the Boston lead to 4-3 with 10:23 left in the period. Things would settle down in the final 10:00 of the period and the score would remain 4-3. Chris Wagner was called for a boarding minor with 0:01 left on the clock and the 2nd period would end with the Bruins leading 4-3 after 40 minutes of play and the shots were even at 18-18

3rd Period - The Maple Leafs would begin the 3rd period with 1:59 of PP time remaining on the penalty to Wagner as they look for the tying goal and Boston was going to need a big effort on the PK to start the period. The Maple Leafs could generate only 1 shot on the man advantage as the Bruins penalty killers did a great job and the score remained 4-3 as Boston returned to even strength. The Bruins were playing with good structure early in the period as they tried to protect their 4-3 lead against the high powered Toronto attack. The Bruins would extend their lead when Chara took a slapper that was tipped by Backes in front and Andersen would make the save but Danton Heinen was right there to corral the rebound and stuff it home for his 3rd goal of the night for a hat trick giving the Bruins a 5-3 lead with 12:37 left to play. David Backes would catch Nylander with a thunderous open ice check that sent Nylander to the dressing room with an injury. The clock would tick under 10:00 to play and Toronto would make it a one goal game when Spezza set up Zach Hyman for a goal to cut the Bruins lead to 5-4 with 9:36 remaining and set the stage for what should be an exciting finish to what has been a fantastic hockey game. Halak made a pair of big stops on Gauthier with just over 6:00 to play to protect the lead and keep it a 5-4 game. The Bruins were smothering the Maple Leafs defensively and making safe plays with the puck as the clocked continued to wind down and we would enter the final 2:00 of regulation with Boston protecting a 5-4 lead. Toronto would get Andersen to the bench for the extra attacker with just under 1:00 to play. The Bruins were trying to hang on and the Maple Leafs would get a chance to tie when Bergeron was called for slashing to put Toronto on the PP with 0:20. Toronto would have a 6 on 4 advantage for the final 20 seconds with a huge offensive zone faceoff coming up. The Maple Leafs would gain possession and had a chance with about 5 seconds left when Reilly put shot on net through a screen but Halak would make the save and the puck was sitting in the middle of a huge scrum of bodies in front of the net as time expired and the Bruins hold on for a hard fought 5-4 victory

* The Bruins and Maple Leafs faced each other for the first time since Boston knocked Toronto out of the playoffs in game 7 of the 1st round last season and this game had a playoff feel to it as both teams fought hard and the Bruins would hang on for a thrilling 5-4 victory

* Both the Bruins and Maple Leafs came into this game missing star players as Boston was without David Pastrnak and Toronto was missing Auston Matthews with both players suffering from concussions

* The Bruins have now won 7 straight after losing on opening night in Dallas to improve to 7-1-0 on the season

* Danton Heinen continues his red hot start to the season as he registered a hat trick scoring 3 goals and leads the team in goals (6) and points (12) through 8 games

* Charlie Coyle and Matt Grzelcyk each picked up 2 assists for Boston

* Jaroslav Halak got his 2nd consecutive start in net for Boston and stopped 20 of 24 shots in the victory

* Frederik Andersen allowed 5 goals on 29 shots in the loss for Toronto

* John Tavares and Mitch Marner each had a goal and an assist for Toronto

* The Bruins PK unit continues their outstanding start to the season as they have not allowed a PP goal yet on the season going a perfect 25 for 25 on the PK

* The Bruins will be without Karson Kuhlman and Joakim Nordstrom for the next game as both players were banged up with injuries. Boston will call up Anders Bjork from Providence of the AHL and Par Lindholm will get back in the lineup after being scratched for all but one game so far this season. Boston will juggle the lines around with Coyle moving up to play RW on the Bergeron-Marchand line while Lindholm will center the 3rd line and Bjork will step in at LW on the 4th line.

* The Bruins and Maple Leafs will square off again in their next game in Boston for the back end of this home and home series. Tuukka Rask will get the start

Re: TNK NHL 20 SLIDERS

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #9 of Season
Toronto Maple Leafs (6-4-0) @ Boston Bruins (7-1-0)

The Bruins will play their 2nd consecutive game against the Maple Leafs after beating the Leafs 5-4 in Toronto while the Maple Leafs beat the Blue Jackets last night in Columbus and will be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights as they look to avenge the previous loss to Boston. Tuukka Rask be back in between the pipes for Boston after Halak started the Bruins last two games while Toronto will have Frederik Andersen in net

1st Period - The Bruins and Maple Leafs were playing a grinding and tight checking game in the early stages of the 1st period with neither team generating any dangerous chances. Toronto would get the games first PP opportunity when Par Lindholm went off for holding with 11:29 left in the period. The Maple Leafs had great puck movement on the man advantage and Rask made a couple tough saves on Marner and Tavares but Boston failed to clear the zone as Jake Muzzin would keep the puck in and put it on net where John Tavares was able to get a piece of it to redirect it past Rask for a PP goal giving the Leafs a 1-0 lead with 10:30 remaining in the period. Par Lindholm was rocked on a big hit by Cody Ceci when he attempted a wraparound late in the period and went down the tunnel with an apparent injury putting Boston down to 11 forwards. The Bruins were controlling play late in the period and had some great chances but Frederik Andersen came up big in the Toronto net keeping it a 1-0 game. Nick Shore took a bad penalty as he tripped Bergeron in the neutral zone with 4 seconds left in the period to put Boston on the PP. The 1st period would end with the Maple Leafs leading 1-0 while Boston had a 14-8 edge in shots.

2nd Period - The Bruins would begin the 2nd period with 1:56 of PP time carrying over on the penalty to Shore but they were unable to do anything with the man advantage and Toronto would get back to even strength. The Bruins would get on the board a couple minutes later when McAvoy played the puck down low to Heinen who worked his way out of the corner and found Brett Ritchie at the far post for a goal to tie the score 1-1 with 16:02 left in the period. Toronto was unsuccessful on a PP opportunity midway through the period and the score remained 1-1 into the late stages of the period. Boston was suffocating the Maple Leafs offensive attack as the shots were 22-11 as the clock ticked under 5:00 to play in the period. The Bruins would go on a PP when Jake Muzzin was called for boarding and Boston would cash in as they moved the puck around nicely and Brad Marchand would fire a one timer past Andersen for the goal to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead with 2:35 remaining in the period. Tuukka Rask came up with a huge save to deny Kasperi Kapanen on a breakaway bid in the closing seconds of the period and we would go to the 2nd intermission with Boston leading 2-1 and out-shooting the Maple Leafs 26-12 after 40 minutes

3rd Period - The Bruins enter the 3rd period with a 2-1 lead and will need to be ready for the Maple Leafs to come out with some energy and play with urgency after struggling to generate chances through two periods. The teams traded chances in the opening minutes of the period as Rask made a great save to deny Kerfoot on an odd man rush and Andersen made a tremendous 3 save sequence on Krejci and Debrusk at the other end before Backes gathered the puck to the side of the net and played it back to Matt Grzelcyk who wound up and blew a slap shot past Andersen to extend the Bruins lead to 3-1 with 16:53 remaining. Boston went on the PP a few minutes later with Gravel going to the box for slashing and the Bruins would add a big insurance goal when McAvoy walked the blue line and found Ritchie who tapped the puck over to Danton Heinen who snapped it past the diving Andersen to make it 4-1 with 12:30 to play. The Maple Leafs had a few good looks down the stretch but Rask would make the saves and the Bruins would finish strong as they controlled play and bled the clock down on their way to a 4-1 victory

* The Bruins scored 4 unanswered goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Maple Leafs

* The Bruins push their winning streak to 8 games and improve to 8-1-0 on the season

* Danton Heinen scored a goal and added an assist continuing his incredible start to the season. Heinen now has 7 goals & 7 assists for 14 points in 9 games which puts him 2nd in the league in points behind Patrik Laine of Winnipeg who has 15 points

* Tuukka Rask stopped 20 of 21 shots and continues his excellent early season play in the Boston net

* Frederik Andersen was under siege for much of the game and allowed 4 goals on 40 shots

* Bruins forward Par Lindholm suffered a fractured jaw and will be out of the lineup for a couple weeks

* The Bruins PK had killed off 25 straight opposing PP to begin the season before allowing their first PP goal against in the 1st period. The Maple Leafs went 1 for 3 on the PP and Boston has now killed off 27 of 28 opposing powerplay opportunities this season for a 96% PK

* The Bruins will have a few days off to rest before the St Louis Blues come to TD Garden for what should be a great game. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the Blues beat the Bruins at TD Garden in Game 7 of the finals to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #10 of Season
St Louis Blues (4-5-1) @ Boston Bruins (8-1-0)

The Bruins and Blues meet for the first time since Game 7 of last seasons Stanley Cup Finals. St Louis had gotten off to a slow start going 4-5-1 following their cup win while Boston has gone 8-1-0 to start the season and comes in with a 8 game win streak after losing to Dallas on opening night. Tuukka Rask and Jordan Binnington will be the goaltending matchup

1st Period - There was controversy just 24 seconds in as Pietrangelo put a shot towards the net that was immediately waved off by the referee as the puck was batted in with the glove by Jaden Schwartz but the call was overturned to a good goal after video review to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. The Bruins responded less than 3 minutes later when Brett Ritchie muscled Gunnarsson off the puck along the wall in the offensive zone and found Danton Heinen in the slot and his quick shot beat Binnington to tie the game at 1-1 with 17:03 left in the period. St Louis came right back a few minutes later as Tarasenko fired a shot on net that Robert Thomas got a piece of to redirect it under the bar to give the Blues a 2-1 lead as this game is off to a wild start with 3 goals in the first 5:53 of action. The Bruins took four penalties in the period but were able to kill off all of them as the 1st period came to an end with the Blues leading 2-1 and out-shooting the Bruins 13-11

2nd Period - The early stages of the 2nd period was very physical with both teams throwing the body around and not allowing many scoring chances. St Louis would go on the PP midway through the period with Marchand going off for slashing and Boston would come up with a big PK but David Backes sailed a puck over the glass to put the Blues right back on the PP with 8:30 remaining in the period. The Blues had some good looks on the man advantage but Boston got a couple big stops from Rask and would kill off the penalty keeping it a 2-1 game as they returned to even strength with 6:30 left in the period. The Bruins had some good pressure in the final minute of the period and Binnington would make his best stop of the night robbing Jake Debrusk with the pad and there would be no scoring in the 2nd period as the Blues carried a 2-1 lead into the intermission. St Louis had a 24-22 edge in shots after 40 minutes of play.

3rd Period - The Bruins entered the 3rd period trailing 2-1 and in need of a big effort in the final 20 minutes as the Blues have outplayed them through two periods. Binnington came up with a big save early to deny Coyle who had a great chance from the slot and the score would remain 2-1. The Bruins would go shorthanded again as Marchand was called for tripping to put the Blues on the PP with 13:23 remaining. The Blues were unable to capitalize on the man advantage as Boston came up with a critical kill to keep it a one goal game and return to even strength with 11:23 to play. Boston started to apply heavy pressure as they were dominating possession and had a glorious chance to tie the game when Bergeron and Bjork played give and go with the puck but Binnington came up with a huge stop as he went into a split and go the pad over to rob Bjork. The Binnington save proved to be huge as the St Louis would extend their lead when Robert Thomas stole the puck from Marchand and came in 2 on 1 with Sundqvist who fired a one timer past Rask to push the Blues lead to 3-1 with 7:13 remaining. The Bruins were pushing hard in the final 5:00 trying to get the tying goal but Jake Debrusk would go off for tripping with a little over 1:00 to play and the Bruins never got a chance to get the extra attacker as the Blues hold on for a 3-1 victory

* The Bruins lose a hard fought game to the Blues by a score of 3-1

* The Bruins suffer their first loss since the season opener in Dallas snapping their 8 game winning streak as they fall to 8-2-0 on the season

* Jordan Binnington was outstanding for St Louis stopping 38 of 39 shots in the win

* Tuukka Rask played well as he stopped 34 of 37 shots in the loss for Boston

* Robert Thomas scored a goal and added an assist for the Blues

* Danton Heinen scored the lone Bruins goal as he stays hot with his 8th goal in 10 games

* The Bruins had trouble staying out of the box as they gave the Blues 8 PP opportunities but were able to kill them all off and the Bruins have now killed off 35 of 36 opposing powerplays on the season

* The Bruins will be right back in action tomorrow as they travel to big apple to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are really struggling as they have gotten off to a terrible 1-7-0 start to the season.

Re: TNK NHL 20 SLIDERS

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #11 of Season
Boston Bruins (8-2-0) @ New York Rangers (1-7-0)

1st Period - The Bruins were carrying the play for much of the 1st period but were unable to cash in on some early chances and the game remained scoreless until late in the 1st period when Halak stopped a shot by Smith and Brett Howden would jam at the puck in a net front scrum and poke it under Halak to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead with 2:48 left in the period. The Bruins would lose Jake Debrusk to injury as he was hurt on a hit in the corner by Staal. The Rangers threatened to make it 2-0 in the closing seconds but a shot by Kreider hit the post and the 1st period would come to an end with the Rangers leading 1-0 and the shots 11-9 in favor of Boston

2nd Period - The Bruins came out buzzing to begin the 2nd period and would score 41 seconds in as they moved the puck around the offensive zone and Charlie Coyle would redirect a shot from Carlo past Lundqvist to tie the score at 1-1. Boston was dominating play as the Rangers had yet to generate a shot on net in the 2nd period through the first 9 minutes of action and the Bruins would strike again when Charlie Coyle made a filthy toe drag to get through a defender and into the high slot where he slid a perfect pass to Danton Heinen who beat Lundqvist to give Boston a 2-1 lead with 10:34 left in the period. The Bruins would out-shoot the Rangers 14-3 in the period and would take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room with a 25-12 shots advantage after 40 minutes of play

3rd Period - The Bruins would begin the 3rd period with a 2-1 lead and need to be ready for the Rangers to come out flying to begin the period after getting dominated in the 2nd period. The Rangers would score on a set play off an offensive zone faceoff just 36 seconds into the period when Zibanejad won the draw back to Skjei who slid the puck over to Artemi Panarin who blasted a one timer past Halak to tie the game at 2-2. The Rangers would commit the games first penalty when Raddysh was called for hooking and the Bruins would go on the PP with 14:03 remaining. The Rangers PK unit was doing a good job but Boston would set up late in the man advantage and Matt Grzelcyk would put a wrist shot on net from the point and Danton Heinen was able to get his stick in position to tip the shot and it trickled past Lundqvist for a big PP goal to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead with 12:07 to play. The Bruins went back on the PP a few minutes later on a slashing penalty by Strome but New York would come up with a big PK to keep it a one goal game. The clock would wind down under 5:00 to play with Boston protecting the 3-2 lead and the Bruins would get another PP when Kreider went off for slashing. Boston would set up on the PP and Torey Krug would fake a slap shot and fire a perfect backdoor pass to Patrice Bergeron who was all alone and fired the puck into the open net for a big PP goal to push the Bruins lead to 4-2 with 4:26 remaining. The Rangers would get Lundqvist off for the extra attacker and Charlie Coyle would score an empty net goal to finish off a 5-2 Bruins win

* The Bruins scored a pair of PP goals late in the 3rd period to turn a 2-2 tie into a 4-2 lead and they would add an empty netter to seal a 5-2 victory in New York as the Bruins bounce back after losing the the Blues yesterday

* The Bruins improve to 9-2-0 on the season while the Rangers nightmare start to the season continues as they fall to 1-8-0

* Danton Heinen remains red hot with 2 goals and 1 assist and Heinen has now scored a goal in 5 straight games. Heinen has scored 8 goals in the last 5 games and leads the team with 18 points (10 Goals & 8 Assists) on the season

* Charlie Coyle and Torey Krug each had a 3 point night with Coyle scoring 2 goals and adding an assist while Krug registered 3 assists for Boston

* Jaroslav Halak stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn the win in the Boston net

* Henrik Lundqvist allowed 4 goals on 37 shots in the losing effort for new York

* Jake Debrusk left the game in the 1st period and will miss a week with a sore knee. The Bruins will get Par Lindholm and Karson Kuhlman back healthy for their next game though

* The Bruins will return to Boston where they will play their next 3 games on home ice at TD Garden beginning with a visit from the San Jose Sharks who are currently 6-6-0 on the season and tied for 3rd place in the Pacific Division
