Re: TNK NHL 20 SLIDERS

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #12 of Season
San Jose Sharks (6-6-0) @ Boston Bruins (9-2-0)

1st Period - The Sharks were the far better team in the early going and dominated the opening 10 minutes of action as they had a number of quality scoring chances but Tuukka Rask was sharp early and bailed the Bruins out with several big saves to keep the game scoreless. San Jose continued to pile up the shots and the Bruins sloppy play would lead to a PP for the Sharks with Sean Kuraly headed to the box for tripping with 7:36 left in the period. The Sharks had some good looks on the PP but could not get the puck past Rask who was now up to 20 saves in the period and the score remained 0-0 as the Bruins returned to even strength. The Bruins started to find their game and generate some chances in the final minutes of the period but the game remained scoreless as the 1st period came to an end. The Sharks had a 21-13 shots advantage after one period

2nd Period - The Bruins were much tighter defensively early in the 2nd period than they were in the 1st period and the play was even with neither team tilting the ice as the score remained tied 0-0 as we approached the midway point of the 2nd period. San Jose would get on the board when Brett Burns made a nice move at the blue line to shake his man and set up Melker Karlsson for a one timer that was stopped by Rask but Kevin Labanc was parked in front and snapped the puck past Rask on the rebound to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead with 6:08 to play in the period. The Bruins responded with some pressure late in the period but Jones was sharp in the San Jose net and the 2nd period would end with the Sharks leading 1-0 and out-shooting the Bruins 32-26 through two periods

3rd Period - The Bruins would enter the 3rd period trailing 1-0 and came out flying on the opening shift of the 3rd period which led to a great chance for Marchand who got free in the high slot but Jones made a nice glove save to keep it a 1-0 game. The Sharks would extend their lead on a gorgeous set up from Brodzinski to Tim Heed who crashed in from the point and fired a one timer past Rask to give San Jose a 2-0 lead with 14:03 remaining. The Sharks struck again midway through the period on the 2nd goal of the night from Labanc to take a commanding 3-0 lead with 10:34 to play. The Bruins responded with a goal when Charlie Coyle put a shot on net on the rush that Jones kicked out but Danton Heinen collected the rebound and snapped it by Jones to get Boston on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1 with 7:41 left in the game. The clock continued to wind down and the game would enter the final 2:00 with Boston trying to pull within a goal. The Bruins would make it a one goal game when Zdeno Chara put a wrist shot on net with traffic in front and Patrice Bergeron would tip the shot to redirect the puck through the legs of Jones for a goal to cut the Sharks lead to 3-2 with 0:49 remaining. Boston would gain possession off the ensuing faceoff and get Rask off for the extra attacker but San Jose would end the comeback bid with an empty net goal from Hertl with 0:16 to play and give the Sharks a 4-2 victory

* The Bruins lose a tough one to the Sharks 4-2 as San Jose opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the 3rd period before Boston scored a pair of late goals to make it a 3-2 game but the comeback would fall short when the Sharks put the game away with an empty net goal

* The Bruins fall to 9-3-0 on the season while the Sharks improve to 7-6-0

* The Bruins allowed 21 shots on goal in the 1st period but only allowed 18 shots over the final 40 minutes of play

* Kevin Labanc scored a pair of goals to lead the way offensively for the Sharks

* Danton Heinen extended his goal scoring streak to 6 games with his team leading 11th goal of the season.

* Martin Jones stopped 37 of 39 shots for San Jose

* Tuukka Rask stopped 35 of 38 shots for Boston

* The Bruins will remain at home for their next game as the Ottawa Senators come to town with a surprising record of 7-4-0 as the Senators are off to a pretty good start after entering the season with low expectations

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #13 of Season
Ottawa Senators (7-4-0) @ Boston Bruins (9-3-0)

The Bruins have lost two out their last three games and look to get back on track as the Ottawa Senators come to TD Garden for what should be a good early season Atlantic Division matchup as the Senators are off to a 7-4-0 start to the season and could make a statement with a win over the 9-3-0 Bruins who are currently without David Pastrnak and Jake Debrusk up front. Tuukka Rask and Craig Anderson will be between the pipes

1st Period - The Senators came out with energy and had some heavy pressure early in the period but Tuukka Rask was up to the challenge in the Boston net making some tough stops in the early going. The Bruins began to assert themselves and control play in the middle stages of the period but could not get a puck past Anderson in the Ottawa net. Karson Kuhlman took a tripping penalty late in the period to give Ottawa the games first PP but Boston would kill it off and return to even strength. The 1st period would conclude with no scoring and we would go to the intermission tied 0-0 with the shots even at 12-12

2nd Period - The Bruins would open the scoring midway through the 2nd period when Ottawa coughed up the puck in the neutral zone as Karson Kuhlman gathered the loose puck and fired a cross ice pass to Patrice Bergeron who got around DeMelo and cut to the middle and beat Anderson with a move to the forehand to give Boston a 1-0 lead with 9:57 remaining in the period. Ottawa would answer right back as Bobby Ryan redirected a point shot by Chabot past Rask to tie the score 1-1 with 8:12 to play in the period. The teams traded late PP opportunities that were both unsuccessful and the score remained tied 1-1 as the clock ticked under 3:00 to play in the period. The Senators would grab the lead when Chris Tierney scored on a wrist shot from the top of the circles through a screen that Rask never saw giving Ottawa a 2-1 lead with 1:08 left in the period. The 2nd period would come to an end with the Senators leading 2-1 and the shots were 25-21 in favor of Boston after 40 minutes

3rd Period - The Bruins would enter the 3rd period trailing 2-1 and looking for a solid effort in the final 20 minutes to come from behind. Boston would tie the game when Anderson stopped a Bergeron shot from the high slot and Karson Kuhlman was right there to slam home the rebound tying the score at 2-2 with 13:36 left to play in regulation. The Bruins would strike again a few minutes later as Bergeron lifted the stick of Zaitsev in the Ottawa end to steal the puck and fired a quick pass to Brad Marchand for a one timer that beat Anderson to give Boston a 3-2 lead with 9:15 to play. The Bruins were doing a good job of making safe plays and bleeding clock as the game would enter the final 5:00 of regulation. The Senators had some pressure and Rask had to make two quick saves in succession on Anisimov with just over 4:00 to play and Connor Brown was called for hooking to put Boston on the PP with 3:41 left. The Bruins went to work on the PP but could not get the insurance goal as Ottawa killed off the penalty to Brown and returned to even strength trailing 3-2 with 1:41 left to play. The Senators got Anderson to the bench for the extra attacker with 0:45 to play and got the puck in the offensive zone. Ottawa had the Bruins pinned in the defensive zone for the final 30 seconds and had tremendous pressure as they tried for the equalizer but Rask would make his biggest save of the game denying Tierney with the pad on a point blank chance from the slot with under 10 seconds remaining and McAvoy would loft the puck out of the zone and time would expire as the Bruins hang on for a 3-2 victory

* The Bruins trailed 2-1 entering the 3rd period before getting a pair of goals just over 4 minutes apart from Kuhlman and Marchand to take a 3-2 lead. The Senators made a push late in the 3rd period but Boston would hang on for the 3-2 victory

* The Bruins bounce back from the loss to San Jose with a win to improve to 10-3-0 on the seaosn

* Patrice Bergeron factored in all 3 Bruins goals with 1 Goal & 2 Assists

* Brad Marchand scored the game winner for his 5th goal of the season

* Danton Heinen was held off the scoresheet snapping his 6 game goal scoring streak

* Tuukka Rask was solid in net for Boston stopping 28 of 30 shots

* The Bruins will wrap up this 3 game homestand against the Pittsburgh Penguins who have struggled to a 5-7-2 record to start the season.

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #14 of Season
Pittsburgh Penguins (5-7-2) @ Boston Bruins (10-3-0)

The Bruins and Penguins meet for the first time this season and it will be a battle of the backups as Boston goes with Jaroslav Halak in net while Pittsburgh will have Casey DeSmith between the pipes.

1st Period - The 1st period featured tight checking throughout with some heavy hits being thrown by both teams and the game remained scoreless until late in the period when Pittsburgh went on the PP and Sidney Crosby would score on a deflection to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead with 3:20 to play in the period. The Bruins were unsuccessful on a late PP of their own and the 1st period would come to an end with Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and holding a 10-7 edge in shots.

2nd Period - The Penguins continued to play a strong game defensively as they were limiting the Bruins scoring chances and Casey DeSmith came up with the timely saves when needed keeping the score 1-0 as we passed the midway point of the 2nd period. The Bruins were starting to control play in the final 5:00 of the period and Crosby would go to the box for hooking to put Boston on the PP with 1:39 left in the period. The Bruins had some good puck movement and looks but could not score before the end of the period as the Penguins head to the 2nd intermission with a 1-0 lead despite the Bruins now holding a 22-20 edge in shots.

3rd Period - The Bruins began the 3rd period with 21 seconds of PP time remaining on the penalty to Crosby and they would finally get on the board as Bergeron won a board battle in the offensive zone and tapped the puck to Torey Krug who walked in from the point and blasted a slap shot past DeSmith 20 seconds into the period for a big PP goal to tie the game 1-1 with 19:40 remaining. The Bruins would take the lead 37 seconds later as Brad Marchand played give and go with Bergeron and Marchand would get to the high slot and snap a shot over the shoulder of DeSmith as the Bruins score 2 goals in the opening minute of the period and suddenly lead 2-1 with 19:02 to play. Danton Heinen was called for hooking to put Pittsburgh on the PP a couple minutes later but Bergeron would pole the puck away from Dumoulin and Grzelcyk would pass to Marchand who had a full head of steam as he rushed up the wing and beat DeSmith top corner for a shorthanded goal to send the TD Garden crowd into a frenzy as the Bruins have scored 3 goals in the opening minutes of the period to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead with 16:11 remaining. The Penguins nightmare 3rd period got worse midway through the period when Joakim Nordstrom poked the puck away from Riikola to create a breakaway opportunity and he would finish it off on the backhand to make it 4-1. The Bruins would finish off the final 10:00 with strong defensive play as they turn in their best period of the season and go on to a 4-1 vbictory

* The Bruins were trailing 1-0 entering the 3rd period before exploding for 4 goals in the 3rd period to beat the Penguins 4-1

* The Bruins improve to 11-3-0 on the season while the Penguins drop to 5-8-2 as their early season struggles continue

* Brad Marchand scored 2 goals in a span of 2:51 in the 3rd period including the eventual game winner. Marchand now has 7 goals on the season

* Patrice Bergeron assisted on 3 of the Boston goals and has 8 points (3 G & 5 A) in the last 4 games

* Jaroslav Halak stopped 29 of 30 shots in the win for Boston

* Casey DeSmith shut the Bruins out for the first two periods before getting lit up for 4 goals in the 3rd period as he winds up with 31 saves on 35 shots in the loss for Pittsburgh

* The Bruins will be right back in action tomorrow in what should be a great tilt as they travel to Montreal to take on their arch rival Montreal Canadiens at Belle Centre. The Canadiens are currently 8-4-2 on the season

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #15 of Season
Boston Bruins (11-3-0) @ Montreal Canadiens (8-4-2)

The Bruins and Canadiens renew their historic rivalry for the first time this season at Bell Centre in Montreal for what is always an electric atmosphere when the Bruins are in town. Tuukka Rask returns to the net for Boston and will be opposed by Carey Price for Montreal in a battle between two of the leagues top goalies who are both off to great starts to the season as Rask is sporting a 1.73 GAA and .940 Sv% while Price comes in with a 2.06 GAA and .937 Sv%

1st Period - The teams were both playing cautious hockey in the early going and not taking many risks and the game was scoreless midway through the 1st period. Boston started to tilt the ice late in the period and Carey Price was forced to make some difficult stops. The 1st period would come to an end with the score tied 0-0 and Boston out-shooting Montreal 12-7 after 20 minutes of play

2nd Period - Montreal came out with great energy to begin the 2nd period and Rask had to come up with a couple point blank saves on Domi and Gallagher to keep it a scoreless game. The Canadiens would get the games first PP when Nordstrom went to the box for hooking with 15:32 left in the period. The Canadiens would cash in on the man advantage with some nice passing as they worked the puck around and Kotkaniemi would find Gallagher with a cross ice pass for the one timer to give Montreal a 1-0 lead with 14:18 left in the period. David Backes tried to energize his team by dropping the gloves with Ben Chiarot on the ensuing shift for a spirited fight. Boston seemed to get a spark from the Backes fight as Charlie McAvoy would fire a rocket through a screen that beat Price for a goal to tie the game at 1-1 with 12:20 to play in the period. The Canadiens would take the lead back with another PP goal as Max Domi picked the top corner on a perfect shot to give Montreal a 2-1 lead with 6:20 left in the period. The 2nd period would end with the Canadiens leading 2-1 and the shots were even at 25-25 after 40 mimnutes

3rd Period - The stage was set for what should be a fantastic finish to this game with Montreal leading 2-1 and 20 minutes left to decide this game. The Bruins would tie the game up 5:30 in to the 3rd period on some great work by Brett Ritchie who out muscled Jeff Petry behind the Montreal net and found Sean Kuraly in the slot for a one timer that broke through Price for a big goal to tie the score 2-2 with 14:30 remaining. Boston would go on the PP when Tatar was called for tripping with 11:30 to play but they were unable to score on the man advantage and the game remained tied 2-2 as we the clock ticked under 9:00 to play. The Canadiens were controlling play as we moved into the final 5:00 of regulation with the score tied 2-2. Charlie McAvoy was forced to take a penalty to deny Kotkaniemi on a scoring chance putting Montreal on the PP with 2:45 remaining. The Canadiens worked the puck around but could not score on the PP and Boston would get back to even strength with under a minute to play. The 3rd period would come to an end and the game would head to OT

OT Period - The teams skated 3 on 3 to begin OT but there would be no scoring and the game would head to a shootout to decide a winner. Krejci and Gallagher scored early in the shootout and it would take 8 rounds to decide a winner as Charlie McAvoy scored in round 8 and Tuukka Rask would deny Joel Armia to give the Bruins the extra point

* The Bruins and Canadiens played a thrilling game that ended in a 2-2 tie through regulation and OT and Boston would win 3-2 in the shootout

* The Bruins improve to 12-3-0 on the season while the Canadiens are now 8-4-3 with the shootout loss

* Tuukka Rask stopped 32 of 34 shots for Boston including 7 of 8 in the shootout

* Carey Price was excellent for Montreal stopping 41 of 43 shots but allowed 2 goals on 8 shots in the shootout

* Sean Kuraly and Charlie McAvoy scored the goals for Boston while Brandan Gallagher and Max Domi scored for Montreal

* The Bruins will travel to Detroit for their next game where they will take on the Red Wings at Little Ceasars Arena

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #16 of Season
Boston Bruins (12-3-0) @ Detroit Red Wings (9-8-0)

The Bruins are in Detroit to take on the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena to wrap up this two game road trip. Boston is coming off a shootout victory in Montreal and looking to continue their excellent 12-3-0 start to the season against the Red Wings who are 9-8-0 on the season. Boston will get Jake Debrusk back in the lineup after missing the last 4 games with an injury.

1st Period - The Bruins took over 4:00 to register their first shot on net but would open the scoring on the play as Ritchie got in on the forecheck and won the puck behind the Detroit net and passed to Coyle who fired a quick cross ice pass to Danton Heinen who ripped a one timer past Bernier for his 12th goal of the season to give Boston a 1-0 lead with 15:48 to play in the period. The Red Wings were carrying play and had a PP midway through the period with Bjork in the box for tripping but they were unable to capitalize as Rask was sharp in the Boston net and the score remained 1-0. Detroit would go on back to back PP late in the period but Boston would get out of the period with their 1-0 lead intact. The Red Wings out-shot the Bruins 13-9 in the 1st period.

2nd Period - The Red Wings began the 2nd period with 22 seconds of PP time carrying over on a penalty to Chara but Boston would complete the kill and get back to even strength. Detroit was getting the better chances and outworking the Bruins but Tuukka Rask made some tough stops on Mantha and Helm early in the period to keep it a 1-0 game. The Bruins would extend their lead midway through the period when Connor Clifton took a slap shot that broke through Bernier and the puck sat behind him in crease where Chris Wagner was able to poke it into the net to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead with 9:35 to play in the period. The Red Wings continued to control play despite trailing 2-0 and Rask was forced to come up big to deny Larkin and Abdelkader on point blank chances as Boston was scrambling around in their own end and Clifton would take a slashing penalty to put the Red Wings on the PP with 4:31 left in the period. Detroit had some good looks on the PP but came up empty handed as the Bruins survive another PK and the score remained 2-0. Brett Ritchie was called for tripping to put Detroit back on the PP with 0:30 left and the 2nd period would come to an end with the Bruins leading 2-0 despite being outplayed and out-shot by Detroit by a 20-15 margin through 40 minutes

3rd Period - The Red Wings would begin the period with 1:30 of PP time carrying over on the penalty to Ritchie and had a terrific chance when a point shot by Green was blocked in front and the loose puck went right to Bertuzzi who had an open net but his shot rang off the post and the Bruins would survive the PK and return to even strength with 18:30 remaining. Boston had a PP a few minutes later with Helm in the box for hooking but failed to capitalize and the score remained 2-0. The Red Wings continued to apply pressure as the clock ticked under 10:00 to play but still trailed 2-0 on the scoreboard. Detroit would go on a crucial PP with 5:29 remaining when Kuhlman was called for tripping and the Bruins PK unit did a great job as they limited Detroit to just one shot on goal on the man advantage and the Bruins would return to even strength with 3:29 to play. The Bruins went into a defensive shell as the Red Wings were attacking with a sense of urgency and Detroit would get Bernier to the bench for the extra attacker with 1:10 to play. Detroit had the puck in the offensive zone and generated a couple of shots in the final minute but Boston would gain possession and Anders Bjork would use his speed to get through the neutral zone and bury an empty net goal with 0:11 left to cap off a 3-0 Bruins victory

* The Bruins grind out a 3-0 road victory in Detroit in a game where the Red Wings outplayed the Bruins for large stretches but Boston capitalized on their chances and the Red Wings could not finish off their own scoring chances

* The Bruins improve to 13-3-0 on the season while the Red Wings fall to 9-9-0

* Tuukka Rask stopped all 29 shots from the Red Wings to earn the shutout

* Jonathan Bernier stopped 25 of 27 shots faced in a solid performance for Detroit

* Danton Heinen scored his team leading 12th goal for Boston while Chris Wagner and Anders Bjork each scored their 1st goal of the season

* The Red Wings went 0 for 6 on the PP as the Boston PK unit has now killed 48 of 52 opposing powerplays on the season (92.3%)

* The Bruins will return home for their next game to take on the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden in an early season showdown between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers currently lead the Metropolitan Division with a record of 12-4-0 while the Bruins lead the Atlantic Division with a 13-3-0 record.

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

The Bruins (13-3-0) host the Flyers (12-4-0) in a battle of division leading teams with the two best records in the Eastern Conference. Tuukka Rask gets the start in net for Boston and Philadelphia will give Carter Hart a night off and go with backup Brian Elliott who is 6-0-0 on the season

1st Period - The game started with the teams trading chances back and forth at a frantic pace as the Bruins and Flyers played with great intensity in the opening 10:00 and the game was scoreless midway through the 1st period. Oskar Lindblom would catch Anders Bjork with a high stick and go to the box putting Boston on the games first PP with 9:16 left in the period but the Bruins could not convert on the man advantage and the Flyers would get back to even strength. Play would settle down towards the end of the period and the 1st period would come to a close with the score tied 0-0 and the Bruins holding a 13-8 edge in shots

2nd Period - Brett Ritchie was called for slashing early in the 2nd period to put the Flyers on their first PP of the night but they were unable to cash in despite good pressure as Rask made a big pad save on Giroux and the PK unit would kill it off as the score remained 0-0. Boston would score the games first goal midway through the 2nd period when Anders Bjork came out of the corner and passed back to Connor Clifton who moved the puck across the blue line and Matt Grzelcyk would wind up and blast a rocket past Elliott to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 8:37 remaining in the period. The Flyers were starting to control play late in the period and they would get on the board when Matt Niskanen kept the puck in at the blue line and skated it deep along the boards and fired a shot from an impossible angle that bounced off the back of Rask shoulder and trickled in for a goal to tie the score 1-1 with 2:19 remaining in the period. Boston would answer back in the final minute of the period as Patrice Bergeron was relentless on the forecheck and poked the puck away from Provorov and Backes would collect the loose puck and slide a quick pass right back to Bergeron who beat Elliott with a quick wrist shot to give Boston a 2-1 lead with 0:49 left in the period. Joakim Nordstrom was called for elbowing on a hit right at the buzzer to end the 2nd period as the Bruins would go to the 2nd intermission with a 2-1 lead and the shots were even at 22-22 after 40 minutes of play

3rd Period - The Flyers would start the 3rd period with a full two minute PP after the penalty to Nordstrom at the end of the 2nd period. Philadelphia had good puck movement on the man advantage leading to quality chances for Van Riemsdyk and Gostisbehere but Rask came up with the timely saves and Boston would return to even strength. The Flyers caught a huge break when Connor Clifton tried to skate out from behind the Boston net to escape the forecheck from Scott Laughton and Clifton would lose the puck as a broken stick on the ice got in his way and Laughton would collect the loose puck and tuck it inside the post for an unassisted goal to tie the game 2-2 with 13:25 to play. The stage was set for what should be an exciting finish to this game as the score was tied 2-2 heading into the final 10:00 of regulation. Brian Elliott made his biggest save of the game with just under 8:00 to play as Boston came up ice on an odd man rush and Elliott would go post to post to rob Sean Kuraly on a nice feed from Wagner and the score would stay tied 2-2. Philadelphia would get a big PP opportunity with 6:26 remaining as Backes would head to the box for tripping. The Flyers were unable to generate any quality looks on the PP as the Boston PK unit did a fantastic job to kill off the Backes penalty and the Bruins would return to even strength with 4:26 to play. The Flyers would score the go ahead goal less than a minute later when Nolan Patrick did a great job to protect the puck and made a spinning pass into the slot where Kevin Hayes was crashing in and Hayes beat Rask with a quick move to the backhand for a huge goal to give Philadelphia a 3-2 lead with 3:23 remaining. The Bruins would answer with 1:51 remaining as they came up on a rush with speed as Matt Grzelcyk hit Danton Heinen with a pass as they gained the blue line and Heinen would make a cut to the middle and fired a rocket that picked top corner from the top of the circle to tie the score 3-3. Torey Krug would get called for tripping to put Philadelphia on the PP with 0:50 to play but the Flyers could not do anything before time would expire and the 3rd period would come to an end with the score tied 3-3 and the game was headed to overtime

OT Period - The Flyers would begin OT with 1:10 of PP time skating 4 on 3 but the Bruins would kill it off and get back to even strength. Elliott would freeze the puck for a whistle and the teams would now skate 3 on 3 with 2:49 left in OT. The Bruins would get Bergeron-Marchand-Krug on the ice with just under 2:00 to play and they would get the puck in the offensive zone using their speed to create pressure as they worked the puck around beautifully as Bergeron would cycle the puck to Krug along the wall and Krug found Marchand in the high slot for a one timer that hit Elliott in the shoulder and came right back to Marchand who was again denied on a sprawling pad stop by Elliott but this time the rebound would wind up on the stick of Patrice Bergeron who went down to one knee and snapped the puck past the diving attempt of Elliott for the OT game winning goal as the Bruins storm the ice to mob Bergeron and Boston wins 4-3 in OT......WHAT A GAME!!!!

* The Bruins and Flyers played an incredible game that saw the Flyers take a 3-2 lead late in the 3rd only for Boston to tie the game 3-3 with under 2:00 remaining before Patrice Bergeron scored the game winner in OT to give Boston a 4-3 victory

* The Bruins improve to 14-3-0 with the win and the Flyers see their record drop to 12-4-1 with the OT loss

* Patrice Bergeron scored 2 goals for Boston including the OT game winnner

* Danton Heinen continues his incredible start to the season as he notched his 13th goal of the season to tie the game late in the 3rd period

* Tuukka Rask stopped 35 of 38 shots in the win for Boston

* Brian Elliott stopped 34 of 38 shots for Philadelphia

* The Bruins will remain at home for their next game with the Florida Panthers coming to town with a record of 8-8-1 on the season

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #18 of Season
Florida Panthers (8-8-1) @ Boston Bruins (14-3-0)

1st Period - The Panthers were all over the Bruins in the opening minutes of the game and would open the scoring 3:59 into the game when former Bruin Noel Acciari who signed with Florida as a free agent in the off-season scored on the rebound after Halak stopped a shot by Sceviour to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The Bruins killed off a Panthers PP midway through the period and Boston started to find their game late in the period as they had some dominant shifts but Bobrovsky made some tough saves including a breakaway stop on Debrusk to protect the lead as the 1st period would end with Florida leading 1-0 and the Bruins holding a 11-7 edge in shots

2nd Period - Florida would extend the lead 32 seconds into the 2nd period on a strange play as Huberdeau sent a soft wrister on net from the neutral zone that was more of a dump than a shot and Halak had to stop it with his pad as it bounced a few feet in front of him and Evgeni Dadonov was streaking towards the net and snapped the rebound past Halak to make it 2-0. Things went from bad to worse for Boston as Jake Debrusk would take a tripping penalty to put the Panthers on the PP and Colton Sceviour would take a nice feed from Vatrano and snap a shot past Halak to give Florida a commanding 3-0 lead with 15:12 to play in the period. The Bruins needed some sort of spark and they would get it late in the period when Joakim Nordstrom entered the zone with speed to the outside and hit Chris Wagner streaking to the far post for the goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 4:52 to play in the period. The Bruins were energized by the goal and had all kinds of pressure in the final minutes but Bobrovsky stood on his head making several difficult saves and the 2nd period would come to an end with Florida leading 3-1 despite being out-shot 28-20

3rd Period - The Bruins would enter the 3rd period trailing 3-1 and were going to need a huge effort in the final 20 minutes if they want to come from behind in this game. The Bruins came out flying to begin the 3rd period and were all over the Panthers in the early going. Boston thought they had a goal to make it 3-2 with 13:00 to play when Anders Bjork beat Bobrovsky with a wrist shot but the referee immediately waived it off as there was contact with Bobrovsky from Krejci and the score would remain 3-1. The Bruins were out-shooting the Panthers 10-0 in the period as the clock ticked under 10:00 to play with Florida clinging to a 3-1 lead. The Bruins were absolutely dominating the period but the score remained 3-1 as Sergei Bobrovsky was standing on his head making save after save under constant pressure in the 3rd period and the clock would wind down under 5:00 to play. The Bruins continued to generate scoring chances but could not beat Bobrovsky and Backes would take a penalty to put the Bruins shorthanded with 1:00 to play ending any hopes of a comeback as the Panthers defeat the Bruins by a 3-1 score

* The Bruins ran into a hot goalie as Sergei Bobrovsky turns in a 45 save performance to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 victory

* The Bruins fall to 14-4-0 with the loss while the Panthers improve to 9-8-1 with the win

* Sergei Bobrovsky was amazing in the Florida net stopping 45 of 46 shots in a stellar performance including 18 saves under constant duress in the 3rd period

* Colton Sceviour scored a goal and added an assist to lead the way offensively for the Panthers

* Noel Acciari left the Bruins to sign with Florida as a free agent this past off-season and scored a goal in his return to Boston against his former team. Acciari is off to a great start to his Panthers career with 7 goals in his first 18 games as a Panther

* Jaroslav Halak allowed 3 goals on 25 shots in the loss for Boston

* Chris Wagner scored the lone Boston goal for his 2nd of the year

* The Bruins will have a few days off and travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs in their next game at ScotiaBank Arena. The Maple Leafs are currently 12-8-0 on the season and will be looking to hand the Bruins their first back to back losses of the season. Boston will get a big boost as David Pastrnak set to return to the lineup after missing 11 games with a concussion.

TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #19 of Season
Boston Bruins (14-4-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (12-8-0)

The Bruins are in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs at ScotiaBank Arena in a big Atlantic Division tilt. Boston is bolstered by the return of David Pastrnak who missed the last 11 games with an injury and Toronto will have Auston Matthews who was not in the lineup a few weeks ago when the teams played twice in a span of a few days. Tuukka Rask and Frederik Andersen will be the goaltending matchup

1st Period - The game got off to a wild start with 3 goals in the first 3:03 of action as the Bruins would strike first on the games opening shift when David Pastrnak took a pass from Bergeron on the rush and blew a slap shot past Andersen just 43 seconds into the game to give Boston a quick 1-0 lead. Toronto would answer right back when Connor Clifton coughed up the puck at the blue line to give Justin Williams a breakaway and Williams would beat Rask with a deke to the forehand to tie the score at 1-1 just 2:14 into the period. Boston would answer less than a minute later as they got the puck in deep and Backes would win the puck on the forecheck and hit Chris Wagner streaking to the front of the net for the tap in goal to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. The Maple Leafs would respond to tie the score when John Tavares was able to fish the puck out of a scrum of bodies in front and lift it over Rask making it a 2-2 game with 12:58 to play in the period. Things would settle down a bit and Boston would control play in the late stages of the period and had a great scoring chance with under 5:00 to play when Krejci found Heinen all alone in the slot but his shot rang off the post and stayed out. The 1st period would end with the score tied 2-2 and Boston out-shooting Toronto 13-5

2nd Period - Boston had the puck in the offensive zone for a long stretch early in the 2nd period and Coyle would kick the puck back to Clifton who moved it laterally across the blue line to Matt Grzelcyk and he would wind up and beat Andersen with a slap shot to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead with 16:57 to play in the period. Toronto went on the PP with 14:07 left in the period and had some good looks but Rask would come up big and Boston would complete the PK and return to even strength with 12:07 to play in the period. The momentum was pretty even throughout the period with both teams having spurts where they were carrying the play. Rask would make a couple of huge saves with just over 4:00 to play in the period when he stopped a point blank shot from Marner and flashed his pad out to deny Matthews on the rebound attempt keeping it a 3-2 game. The Bruins would extend their lead on a big goal from Charlie Coyle as Anders Bjork used his speed to win a race to a loose puck in the offensive zone and fired a quick cross ice pass to Coyle who beat Andersen with a quick shot to push the Boston lead to 4-2 with 1:02 remaining in the period. The 2nd period would come to an end with the Bruins leading 4-2 and out-shooting the Maple Leafs 25-15 after 40 minutes

3rd Period - The Bruins would enter the 3rd period with a 4-2 lead and have held the explosive offensive attack of the Maple Leafs to just 15 shots through two periods and shut them down since the goals were scored early in the 1st period. The Maple Leafs came out buzzing and playing with a sense of urgency to begin the 3rd period and Toronto would go on an early PP as Brandon Carlo was called for tripping with 17:58 remaining. Toronto went right to work on the man advantage as they moved the puck around and Tyson Barrie put a shot on net that was tipped by Kasperi Kapanen past Rask on the change of direction for a huge PP goal to cut the Bruins lead to 4-3 with 17:01 to play. The Maple Leafs suddenly had momentum and an energized crowd as they followed up the goal with some good pressure and almost tied the game with under 13:00 to play when Nick Shore hit the post with a shot. The Bruins were in survival mode as Toronto was controlling the play and the clock would wind down under 10:00 to play in regulation with Boston holding a 4-3 lead. The Bruins were content to make safe plays in their own end and dump pucks in deep as they tried to bleed as much clock as possible as we entered the final 5:00 of regulation with Boston leading 4-3. The Maple Leafs had a great scoring chance with just over 4:00 left when Spezza carried the puck across the blue line on a 2 on 1 rush with Nylander but Rask would make a big positional save to deny Nylander and keep it a 4-3 game. Rask made a nice glove save on a one timer by Marner with 1:35 remaining and froze the puck setting up an offensive zone faceoff for Toronto but Bergeron would win the draw against Tavares and Boston would clear the zone to relieve pressure. Toronto would get Andersen off for the extra attacker in the final minute and Charlie McAvoy was forced to ice the puck with 0:30 remaining. The icing forced the Bruins to keep tired skaters on the ice and they could not use their timeout as Toronto would put fresh skaters on the ice for the upcoming offensive zone faceoff. Patrice Bergeron would win a huge faceoff as Boston gained possession and Chara would move the puck to Brad Marchand who skated across center ice and buried an empty net goal to put the game away and give the Bruins a hard fought 5-3 win in Toronto

* The Bruins earn two points with a hard fought victory in Toronto as they scored a pair of goals in the 2nd period to turn a 2-2 tie into a 4-2 lead heading into the 3rd period. Toronto cut the deficit to 4-3 and made a strong push to try and tie the game before Boston sealed the victory with an empty net goal in the final minute to finish off a 5-3 Bruins win

* The Bruins improve to 15-4-0 while the Maple Leafs fall to 12-9-0 and drop to 6 points behind the 1st place Bruins in the Atlantic Division standings

* David Pastrnak returned to the lineup after missing 11 games with a concussion and looked great as he scored a goal and added an assist. Pastrnak may have rushed back into action as he made it through the game without incident but the team was informed after the game that Pastrnak would need to miss time again and was being evaluated

* Charlie Coyle scored his 4th goal of the season and added an assist for Boston

* Justin Williams had a goal and an assist for Toronto

* Tuukka Rask stopped 24 of 27 shots in the win for Boston

* The Bruins will be right back in action tomorrow night at home as the Washington Capitals come to TD Garden. The Capitals are currently in 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division with a 12-8-1 record
