Trouble initiating defensive net battles

- NHL 22 on PS4
- Be A Pro mode
- Right defender position
- Allstar difficulty
- Hybrid controls layout
- SuperGoalie’ BAP player slider set

I am having a difficult time consistently and effectively initiating net battles as a defenseman.

I feel as though it was a lot easier to initiate defensive net battles in NHL 21.

My player is correctly positioned in the zone (according to On Ice Trainer) and in front of the net but when I hold the triangle button (again Hybrid control layout) to initiate the battle, the player does not always tie up or actually perform the net battle.

Is this because of something I am doing wrong?

Am I possibly timing it incorrectly? If so when should I initiate the battle?

Does the position of the offensive player (relative to my defender) have something to do with it? I.e the offensive player MUST be in front, or to a certain side of my defensive player?

Is there possibly a slider or attribute I can tweak to help with this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
