Wondering if it's just cause it's the Trial version (in regards to the Presentation)

For presentation it's play by play, goals only or off. I actually like it as you only see replays of your own goals and it gets back to the game quickly. If they didn't have the screen wipes and just had it in real time with players skating off/on the ice it would really be great.

I played another game, this time on 8min/AS/defaults except for main penalty setting maxed.

There was only 1 penalty for each team so the other penalty sliders will need tweaked like they normally do.

Blues (me) lost to the Red Wings, 3-2, shots were 33 to 31.

I didn't play last years game all that much, did the ice pile up in the crease like it does now? (I don't remember that before)

Gameplay over all is fun, the CPU likes the high scoring areas but they will take the slapper from the point if they have no other options down low. Some of the desperation stick plays are neat when a player is knocked down but manages to swat the puck to a teammate.

I don't remember players pointing with their sticks for you to pass to an open player, but again, I didn't play 22 all that much.

One of the things I flat out enjoy that adds so much to a hockey game is the crowd. You notice them on rushes, hits, power plays, etc.. it really feels like a live crowd.

Re: NHL 23 Trial Available Now For EA Play Subscribers

Played just one game tonight, Play Now on Pro default, though I did take the game speed down one click.

Game played nice and was fun. Flyers(me) vs Devils. Hayes scores in the 2nd to give the home team the 1-0 lead. The Devils get a point shot and a horrific rebound by Carter Hart that winds up in the back of the net with 0.5 seconds remaining. Devils then win in OT. Seemed about right 🫤

I messed around with custom franchise some - nice touch that if you set it to 6 teams the 6 listed by default are the Original Six. But you can swap out for any team in the game including alumni teams. I did not see if you could use custom rosters, I’ll check for that tomorrow.

Re: NHL 23 Trial Available Now For EA Play Subscribers

Played a few games, and the one and only thing I wanted to see was the CPU d-men play and if they take consistent Slapshots from the point and are a threat to score.

Sad to say that area is still sorely lacking. I even edited cpu dmen strategies to max in the cycle/shoot strategy option.

They still do not shoot nearly enough, and almost always feed the puck to the forwards to let them do the attacking. Pretty much the same as in NHL 21, 22.

They will take weak wristers 9 times out of 10 on the rare occasion that they do shoot. They do once in a while join in the rush, but again, I dont feel threatened at all by dmen scoring.

This was not the case in NHL 20, cpu dmen offensive ai was amazing. Took slapshots, took appropriate wrist shots, screen shots, one timers, leading 2 on 1 rushes. Hell, I once had 2 cpu dmen leading the 2 on 1 and scored on a one timer. They sometimes even had breakways and scored. Once a cpu dman scored a Hat trick on me. Another instance, I gave up 33 shots to the cpu, and 18 was taken by a dman in that particular game. These are all things you see in the NHL.

You wont see these things happening from nhl 21 to 23 sadly. I guess I'll be editing rosters for nhl 20 again. Sighhh....

Holy crap ! That’s what I was afraid of 😳

But there is hope, because I’m about to post a gameplay video on NHL22 where I got DMEN playing where I want them to… And probably my same fix/solution will work on 23.

Re: NHL 23 Trial Available Now For EA Play Subscribers

I find gameplay fun and the CPU, at least on default AS plays fine to me.

I'm not sure what NHL teams have D men taking tons of shots from the point? I was just at Blues game and the D had 4 total shots, the rest were taken by the forwards.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want the CPU D to just take shots. They work the puck well and mix up strategies.

I need to play more, but the game definitely seems better to me and I'm more engaged into the gameplay.

Definitely leaning towards purchasing.

The average dmen registered shots per game should be around 5-7, and thats how many Inwas getting in NHL 20. There were also wide shots, blocked shots and defelctions that didnt register as a stat, but it was a tangible thing during gameplay.

Cpu dmen also took appropriate shots is whats most important, when a forward makes a pass from behind the net to the point and dmen has good position to shoot, nine times out of 10 dmen will take a shot. I dont see that in NHL 23, even after making dmen strategies to max shoot AND having their shot bias rating maxed.

With shot bias maxed, they should be human version of a howitzer, shoot first think later, just isn't the case.

Makes the game predictable and too forward heavy in attack. Been a 3 year problem now. Shame really....

Please share a video where you play a full period, so that we can see the improvements. If you can solve this, would be amazing. Looking forward to your video pernell.

Thx
