Considering Buying this for PS5 but want real honest reviews & opinions as I read other reviews but not sure which sites to believe.

Would you recommend getting this game or Is It a hard pass??

Also is the Wichita Thunder in game? If so are they playable in franchise mode & outside of franchise mode?? Thanks

I played the 10 hour trial, and it’s a hard pass from me. If it helps I really liked NHL ‘19-‘22.

I know a lot of people are saying the LOVE the gameplay this year because the defense really is more challenging. But your AI teammates are dumber than ever in my opinion. I can skate circle in the offensive zone and none of them will ever make an effort to get open for a shot. And when they do, they are hardly ever in a position to actually take a high percentage shot.

Also if your a franchise player, EA as taken out slot of simple options that actually allowed the mode to function properly. This year, even if you fire your coach and hire a new one you are stuck with whatever strategy set you start the mode with, with no ability to change it. Which means if you start with a defensive strategy set, your are stuck with it. Coaching staffs were one of the big features they added a couple of years ago, and EA essentially rendered it obsolete.

Also, I see alot of people on her super excited that the crowd now chant “go (insert team name here), go”! But other than improved crowd sounds the presentation package is not worthy of a AAA title such as NHL.

It’s definitely one step forward two steps back this year. With a good tuner set ‘22 actually plays pretty well and has way more quality of life functions that just make the experience way more enjoyable.

Great game. If you’re looking for a solid on ice product of hockey, its a no brainer.

There is something to like for those playing only franchise (like me).

Coach now matters.
Ok i know lots people complain you cannot edit strategies...

Well that is only one part of the story.
You cannot change the fundamental scheme of your coach (making now coach mattering for real).
But game gives you LOTs of tactical options to organsie situation even change player position, or who takes the faceoff etc.

It is quite deep and looks like real hockey immersion IMO.
So after thinking "dam they removed something" I know think this is actually making hockey sense and give ne much more control.

Im loving it. Some of the best gameplay ive ever experienced. I hated NHL 22. Love this years game.

With all due respect Therebelyell, this is where I'm lost to be honest ! Maybe it's because of my sliders, maybe it's because of me playing player lock, but I see none of that ? And I really don't have the time and space to skate in circles…

I played a game last night and these moments are plenty, and they all happened in the 1st period and I didn't have to really look that hard to find them also…

** Note I play player lock in Action Camera, so in the heat of the moment, they are harder to find because you are not playing from the sky (god bless all the YouTubers with shadows 4 times bigger than the puck) 🙄… Your vision is way more limited…

All-Star difficulty and In this clip I control no.19, no.74 and no.4

In the 2nd clip, I had so many options and I screwed up, lol ! That's what I get playing with no pass assist 😆

As a Ducks fan, I can assure you that this is absolutely not realistic. Anyone who follows Anaheim knows that they can't defend in their own zone...there should have been 4 different options wide open offensively for you there!

Im loving it. Some of the best gameplay ive ever experienced. I hated NHL 22. Love this years game.

Happy to hear some positivity out there. I'll inevitably wait until it goes on sale as I don't have enough time to invest into the game between now and Xmas anyway, but I'm fairly confident that as long as EA's first or second update don't screw up gameplay (Seems like a fairly consistent EA thing to do though...), I'm looking forward to it!

As a Ducks fan, I can assure you that this is absolutely not realistic. Anyone who follows Anaheim knows that they can't defend in their own zone...there should have been 4 different options wide open offensively for you there!

LMAO 😂 Well at least they are pretty much better in the Offensive zone 😉 Fowler, Klingberg and Drysdale to name a few….

I'm a casual player that buys the game almost every year and gameplay wise this is the best one I have ever played. Having so much fun with it.

You could be right. I didn’t really have time to put together a strong slider set before the trial expired. And I am not going to spend $70 on this game.

I may come back to it when I can get it for like $20-$25. Then I’ll work on a slider set and see if my opinion changes.

Good clips btw. I wasn’t seeing the AI trying to generate any of the chance creation opportunities you showed, but obviously they are there

Thanks for your constructive comments ! And like I said, I’m a hardcore OFFLINE player and to me it was really worth the purchase with a good slider set ***cough*** Mine *** cough*** 😀😂

To be honest, seeing that cover art and EA speaking heavily about ''last chance" animations and Trevor Zegras and the Michigan, the palm trees, etc… Got me very worried….

But now I can say that I’m very happy my initial impressions without even playing the game were wrong 😀

Obviously if you call this game (tr……. game), you obviously didn't play it. If you did, you probably didn’t make an effort to see all the positives of it.

The sad truth is: for something that's being sold at AAA videogame prices, NHL 23 is not worth the full price of admission. The only time I'd recommend paying full price for this is if you're a hockey nut and there's no way you'd pass up an opportunity to play this year's version or, if it's been like at least 5 years since you've played the last version. Which incidentally is the same as last year's version... Which was itself the same as the one before that... And the one before that... No seriously, go on google and search for images of NHL 20 and then go watch a streamer playing NHL 23. I challenge you to find me 5 immediate differences you notice. How 'bout 3 differences? One?

And that's without counting on the problems that have been cropping up since the game's launch (bugs, glitches, omissions), the blatant false advertising, complete silence from their "community" manager concerning those said problems.

IMHO, NHL 23 is basically what a FREE patch for NHL 22 should've been waaaaaaaaaaaay back in January or February of this year. It wouldn't even be ok to pick this up for 50% off during a Black Friday sale, much less for 80$+ on Next-Gen consoles. And that's another kicker: they charge you extra for the privilege of playing the game on both generations, while Microsoft offers Smart Delivery for their platform (for free).

It's not rocket science... It's not "people hating because they wanna hate"... It's people saying we won't put up with this stuff any longer.
