Intercepting passes and defending against one timers

Hey guys, what's the best strategy for intercepting a pass heading for a one timer? I try poke check but it doesn't always work. Should I be using L1 or diving to the ice to prevent the pass?

Very frustrating trying to defend a one timer and reading it yet only for the pass to go through my stick.

Hold down l2 and l1 and move right stick left/ right to lay your stick down also time your pokechecks better but sometimes a good pass is just a good pass. Especially passes below the defensemans stick shaft behind the heal. Lay down body with l1 and r1 or just a quick l1 to get your player to kneel down. I am a master defender but I have been playing this game for nearly 20 years and it just comes down to experience and knowing the situation.

If you are thinking strategy wise maybe collapse and protect net.

It can be tough. The best you can do sometimes is try and get your body in position between the player passing and his target. As stated above, holding L2 can get a knee on the ice and help block passes, but there's no guaranteed way.
Unfortunately, defense hasn't quite received the love that offense has, and you'r left a bit wanting in terms of what you can do. Poke checks can sometimes break up a pass, but with no solid way to aim it exactly where you want, it's not certain. You can also hold R2 for the poke check and you'll hold the stick out and you can then move it to a certain extend to try and block off passing lanes.

I sometimes go for the sticklift on the intended receiver, if the puck carrier isn't in a position to score and is likely to make the pass, or stay on the perimiter.

Make sure you're in the passing lane and hold L2 with your defenseman. Be as still as you can and he should try and get a piece of it.
