Re: NHL 16 Penalties?

I've been consistently very happy with the amount of penalties I'm seeing (in both GM mode and BAP)

Re: NHL 16 Penalties?

I would say it's more frustration on most peoples part rather than complaining. I for one am quite pleased with NHL 16 so far for the most part however this is a penalties thread so were going to post our pros and cons I suppose 😉. Regardless of my views on the penalty situation as long as continue to average 3.0 or better per game for each side I will be happy. I get you on the too many men on the ice thing as it would be hard. Maybe if when your guys are changing and just before a guy gets off the ice bear the boards, sometimes the puck comes that way and you click to closest guy to the puck and take him back over the other guy would jump on and cause the penalty. Of course the CPU would have to be random which could cause issues if not implemented right.

Re: NHL 16 Penalties?

There are some things in here that I don't agree with at all. Hockey is not about getting into your zone and immediately unleashing a slap shot at the goalie. Hockey is also not about figure skating and prancing around your offensive zone protecting the puck looking to draw a penalty. If a player did either of these things in real life, he'd be benched and would not play in the NHL much longer.

In real life, penalties are drawn from beating your opposing defender. When a forward gains an advantage on a defenseman, the defenseman will do whatever it takes to not allow him to march right in and set a perfect pass or get an easy shot. A defending player will hold, interfere, trip, hook, or do whatever it takes to impede the progress of an opposing player who is beating them.

There are also dumb penalties. Like an accidental trip, a slash out of frustration, boarding, charging, too many men on the ice, roughing, elbowing, slashing penalties from breaking an opposing player's stick, etc. These penalties happen multiple times in every single hockey game. Nobody is perfect. Sometimes you charge the hell out of someone out of frustration or to send a message. Sometimes you'll elbow the hell out of a guy down in the corner to gain a little space or to get that dude who's been banging on you all game long off of your back.

As for playing in the offensive zone, it's not about deking and doing circles with the puck. It's not about doing quick turns. It's not about drawing penalties. It's about putting the puck in the back of the net. Teams have to cycle, and players have to constantly keep their feet moving and not get caught flat footed. Offense is about getting your big guys to cause havoc in front of the net and down in the corners. Having a good puck moving defenseman to distribute the puck and pitch in on offense. It's about the dump and chase and hustling your butt off to beat your opponent down the ice and forecheck the hell out of them to get the puck back. Offense is about finding openings by passing and looking for a quality shot. It's about driving the net. It's about getting the puck on net low to get rebounds and get garbage goals.

That's real hockey.

Re: NHL 16 Penalties?

Ok...I got my copy from Gamefly, I decided to rent it. Haven't played it yet, so after it d/l i turned off my PS4 and went back to work. Now my question, I need to go online and try to play a game and then it will ask me to d/l like that of a tuner so I can get accurate and increase powerplay/penalties?

No. I was able to back out at the team select a team after finding me a match up and then let me know an update has been installed.
