I am just not interested in this NHL series any longer..

I am just not interested in this NHL series any longer. Anyone else feel the same way? It feels (though I have not played this years version but I cam surely imagine) as though I have been playing the exact same game for years. Same graphics, same animations, same issues, Same AI... just same all around.

To be honest, I strongly believe the NHL series from EA needs to be re-built from the ground up. At this point with today's hardware and expertise, these games should be much better.

Any one else feeling this way?

I agree to an extent, but once they fix the tuner problem, it's really good.....maybe I'm getting old, but I honestly can't see how much better they can make any of these sports games....maybe I'm wrong though lol

There is so many thing they can improve. I am uncertain if the current team is the right team to move forward. I don't mean that in disrespect of the work they have done but sometime you need a pair of fresh eye to go to the next level.

If only my buddy that works on the FIFA AI would be lend to the NHL Team for a few months. That would be a good start. (they are in the same office)

Yeah I don't know, it just seems stale to me. I could live with the graphics /sound and those sort of things if they re-built the engine underneath. With how things work and interact with each other. Hell, maybe I am just getting old and bitter.

The best thing to do is not buy it every year. Or buy it later than the release date and get it on sale, scour Amazon until you see a deal. Plus, is there another hockey game?

Or better yet realize it's an EA game.

I really feel sorry for the guys who open their wallets to get htis game. Perhaps next time, do the route of renting it first. Now I hope EA would resolve this stupid mistake...or better yet just bring back the option for us to chose which tuner we would like to use.

Its not stale to me at all and they added alot of great atmosphere the last few years that will hopefully be built upon but for the last few years when the first game update or tuner comes as a overwrite the game I enjoyed out of the box so much becomes a nightmare to try and get it back to the game it was .

If I could just get roster updates or roster share I wouldnt even go online with this game EVER .
Finally Roster share in NHL 22 ! Dreams do come true ! To Garryowen and Glory boys !

I'm actually enjoying 16 more now than at launch. It's taken me a while to understand how to play halfway decently defensively, vs the ai. Lots of my early trouble with this years game was because of my own poor play. With a few slider tweaks, and playing with more responsibility, i'm starting to get things together with my GM mode. 3-5-2 so far on all-star. This is not to say the game doesn't have It's issues. I'm just starting to adjust to some of them. So yeah, i'm kinda digging 16 right now.

This is the best it's been in a long time IMO. Still glaring EA mistakes. Like the horrible Defensive AI.

Nhl 16 is great, perhaps you should play a game before trying to stir up negativity. It's posts like this that contribute to games getting an unfair rap from people who haven't even played it. The game got strong reviews everywhere for good reason. If you wanted to start a discussion on a new game that's fine but don't do it this way.

You should at least give it a fair shake. It's by no means perfect, but MUCH better than last years game.

I felt that way about Madden, but this year I'm finally back into football after many years of passing on it.

It's funny, but they did some stuff to the defensive AI that made it better...but only to the opposing CPU . Your CPU controlled D-men are dumber and more useless that ever....yes...even worse that last year.

The stupid **** that I regularly see my D-men doing:

                        - They always go around the wrong side of the net on dump-ins. While the CPU forechecker always goes to the right side and gets there first.
-They are terrible along the boards and always lose the puck battles.
-They freeze up with the puck around their net allowing the opposition to hit them or just simply take the puck right off of them.
-on the powerplay they always go behind the net on dump-ins and just stay there until the forechecker gets to them where the either get hit and lose the puck or the hit the back of the net with the puck and lose the puck.
-They constantly hit the back of their own net while stickhandling when the are back there and give up the puck to the forechecker.
-Unlike the Opposition CPU D-men, the attackers can essentially skate right into your teammate D-men and still deke and maintain possession. You try to do that and see how long before they knock the puck off of your stick or flatten you.

This has been an issue for a while, but it has gotten a lot worse since 15....they really need to fix it as it literally ruins the fun of the game. I think that they should maybe program the offensive AI better rather than take this stupid shortcut of intentionally screwing up you teammate AI so that the opponent's offense has some effectiveness.

This thread should be closed. I mean who really gives a hoot about how someone feels about a game they haven't played this year.

I do. Do you have something relevant to say or are you just going to pad your post count? Last I checked the forum was titled "EA Sports NHL" and not "EA Sports NHL '16 Discussion only"
As someone who is mildly interested in seeing how the NHL video game series is progressing, I tend to take the time to flip through the threads and get my own estimation of what's worth considering and what isn't. With that being said, the fact that someone isn't playing this year for one reason or another is something to consider. Obviously, something there was a big enough issue for them to not consider the product worth the price tag.
I haven't played this year's edition either mostly because they haven't fixed the issues I feel need addressing before I am to purchase the title again. Big deal, I'm just one guy who plays the majority of his games in franchise mode, right? Here's the thing, while it's still early on in the latest consoles' NHL years I'm not a big fan of the direction the game is heading. I'm not interested in EASHL at all much anymore thanks to the community I've seen within it. I would much rather see resources put into fleshing out the franchise mode to at least what it once was (the small things like setting ticket prices, having the team(s) a player played for show up in their career stats, variable attendance, box scores available after exiting the match, managing my budget and staff because, remember, not every team is a cap spending team) and what it could be beyond that (little news stories about the team, variable owners, managing not just in the NHL but perhaps instead abroad or even for your country). They had the right idea with GM connected, but poor results on EA's end resulted in a near unplayable mode and that feature seems to be absent from the current game IIRC and that is a real shame as finally my friends and had the ability to play seasons online only for the mode to be gone after just a few years.
HUT too, has potential, but with limited duration training and a questionable menu interface I've shied away from that mode as once you get online it's the same team every time because to train a squad is far too expensive and not at all even worth it. Furthermore, with the subtraction of career lengths after HUT's debut year, those who wanted to play with the stars but couldn't afford a shiny new card finally had the chance to use them even if just for 5 or 10 games no longer had the chance. As a side note, after checking out MLB the show, the way the Diamond Dynasty mode is handled with players setting the prices via buy and sell orders so that the lowest price for a player was shown when you looked up a player seems to be far better of an option than just getting lucky on timing with HUT.
I think most of the userbase is unhappy because they see glimpses of features only for them to be taken away instead of properly worked through. At this point, I wouldn't doubt there are users on this forum who would jump ship the minute a competitor emerges even if the competitor releases something like NHL Blades of Steel '99. The developers at EA put their heart and soul into the product but because of the one year development cycle (and likely EA being EA) they can't fix the small things people want fixed (the shootout bug in GM mode, season statistics during games, the three stars selection, a playable AHL). EA NHL is an okay game, it could be far better and until it and the company reputation show definite signs of improving beyond the online aspect, I'm not interested enough to buy.
If I can rent NHL '16 for a few bucks or find a demo I'll give it a fair shake and maybe I'll be proven wrong about my observations. They did add two Norwegian teams which is a pleasing sight so the team is definitely still trying but under the whip of EA management they can only do so much that isn't focusing on the money maker. The new presentation seems fairly nice as well, if only we had an interesting product to go along with it.
