Re: How's your Franchise Mode Going?

I joined the Florida Panthers organization and decided not to do any trades at first. However, after around 7 games I traded away Jakub Kindl to Anaheim Ducks for a 4th round draft pick, becuase Kindl didn't accept a role as a 7th D as Kampfer stole his role in the top 6 already scoring 1 goal and 3 assists in 7 games.

I'm extremely dissapointed at how EA handled the Gudbranson for McCan trade. They basically made Gudbranson much better than he ever was for Panthers, has an elite potential and is already 86 overall at just 24 years old, while at Panthers he failed to develop above 83 overall. And for return they made McCan's value almost nothing, he's a top 6 low potential for me, 80 overall, but according to his value he won't develop above 80.

That's too bad.
I think both players are comparable in what they bring.
Gudbranson is a bottom 3 dman and McCann is a bottom 6 forward.

Re: How's your Franchise Mode Going?

I'm 13 with the Coyotes in pre-season/slider tweaking mode. Mike Smith is playing terrible (normal for him). I traded Kevin Connauton for Marcus Kruger from Chicago and put him at 2nd line Center. Up the middle, this team is a mess.

Re: How's your Franchise Mode Going?

I was reviewing the status of my Bruins draft picks and realized that I have no 2nd and 3rd round picks in the upcoming draft (2017). I have been trying to execute a trade to obtain those picks when I found that i had a player on my roster (Max Talbot) that does not appear as an asset to trade.

Has anyone else encountered anything similar to this?

I would have created a new thread but I'm still in my probationary period so this seems the most likely thread to reply in with my question

Thanks in advance

Gudbranson is a top 4 dman, EA has realized he's a defensive defenceman and damn good at his job. Thanks Florida!

My Oilers continue to plow through year one! The struggles have been real, but we're finally in a playoff spot!!!

Re: How's your Franchise Mode Going?

Decided yesterday AM I would take a different approach restarted a new Franchise, once again with Boston. Figured I would sim almost all the games except playoffs and vs Montreal.

Season 1 I hovered right around .500 and just out of reach of the playoffs. Decided to shake things up at the trade deadline and traded Krejci for Larkin and Chara for a 3rd round pick (that was all I could get for him - not surprised). The moves gave my team a boost and they were pretty good down the stretch but still just missed a playoff spot (art imitating life).

That's when the wheels fell off.

At the draft I traded my 1st rd pick (9th) and Rask for the 1st overall and drafted Nolan Patrick. Then I traded Subban and picks 4, 5, 6 & 7 for the #2 overall and drafted Timothy Liljegren. I hoped to get Simon Stransky with my 3rd rounder but he got snatched up in the 2nd round (i had no picks).

Marchand wouldn't re-sign before free agency but that worked out because I was able to sign him for less. I tried to sign Bishop but missed on that as well as all the top tier D-men. I was able to trade for Matt Murphy and Andrei Vasilevsky and get some bottom 6 forward help via free agency. I decided at that point to go with a "youth movement" and see where that took me.

Well my "brilliant" plan to play the kids got me twice as many losses as wins in the NHL and the 3rd overall pick (which I didn't have due to necessary trades) - on the plus side my AHL team made it to the Calder Cup Finals so the future looks good.

In my 2nd offseason I drafted fairly well all things considered. I tried to sign UFA Cam Fowler but he didn't want to play for my rebuilding team. I did manage to trade for Stransky though and several of my players progressed well above expectations.

Season 3 starts today (with minor interruptions for the NFL and some actual ice time for me)

Definitely having more fun playing role GM than playing the games (except when the Bruins beat the Canadiens) - I have certainly learned why I am not an actual NHL GM ;-)

Re: How's your Franchise Mode Going?

So far I am 6-4-1 with Arizona good for 4th in the division. Goaltending consistency has been a problem. Mike Smith has 2 shutouts but is still hovering barely above .900%. Zbynek Michalek has been useless and has had a horrible attitude, so I was forced to send him to the minors. Hopefully I can move him for maybe a 3rd round draft pick. Marty Hanzal finally got his first goal last game against Anaheim. Ekman-Larsson only has 2 points so far.
