Throwback Franchise?

I was messing around with Franchise last night and I saw the option to replace current teams with created teams. After that I went into Create-A-Team and saw the option to recreate a bunch of vintage teams with their logos, etc.

Does anyone know if this is only limited to one team in Franchise? Or can I create a bunch of classic teams in Create Mode, then swap them to create a throwback franchise (i.e. replace the Wild with the North Stars, the Coyotes with the Nordiques, etc.).

Yes you can, I switched Carolina with the Hartford Whalers and Arizona with Las Vegas, then I relocated Florida to Quebec City and that's the team I control.

Cool, thank you! Can't wait to rebuild the Whalers, Nordiques, North Stars, etc. Heck, I might even go the extra step and put the Kings in their Lakers purple and gold and move them back to the Forum. This is going to be awesome.

Colorado Avalanche moved to Seattle Metropolitans (Green and Yellow) Pacific Division

Arizona Coyotes moved to Las Vegas Golden Knights (Black, Yellow, White) Central Division

Florida Panthers moved to Quebec Nordiques (Red, Blue, White) Atlantic Division

Carolina Hurricanes moved to Hartford Whalers (Green, Blue, White, Grey)

Since whichever team you replaces in the NHL it replaces that team in the division, this is why I did it like this, so I could have Las Vegas in the Central and Seattle in the Pacific. I made some pretty slick jerseys for all 4 teams. Loosely basing them off old NHL jerseys but revamped colours and looks. I can take pictures if someone wants to see them.

I will probably start a franchise like this at some point, since I wanted to have Las Vegas involved somehow.

I was also thinking about creating my own league so creating 26 more teams actually in cities like Baltimore, Halifax, Atlanta, Cleveland and making a new league of sorts. I still may do that, it's just a lot of creation work.

I also think you can replace teams with teams from other leagues too. I could be wrong but I THINK so. If that is the case, I may make a World Hockey League and have teams from the Swedish League, NHL original 6, Finnish League, Swiss League and make a world league. Who knows

Edit: Above, you cannot do this. When you choose to replace teams it only lets you choose between Custom and NHL. So I may just make a new NHL. Keep some original 6 and some others and create a bunch more.

I like the customization though this year.

Okay, this is pretty cool. I've created a few teams so far, the arena options are pretty decent. There's a small scoreboard, you can remove a lot of modern effects and throw some organ music in there for goals, wins, etc. It's not perfect but it's not too bad. With a bit of research I should be able nail the minor details, like seat colors at the Forum.

For the rosters I just added the current players from the current team (i.e. Hurricanes to Whalers). You can then go into Edit Mode and edit that team's players, so I'm giving everyone JOFA helmets and moustaches. Sadly, mullet with no helmet is not an option.

Does anyone else have any equipment tips for getting that perfect throwback look?

I thought of doing the same but somethings missing without the vintage goalie masks. I wish they would put them back in. A NO helmet option would also be great. Plus the ability to edit players names.

Now that I'm seeing the visual effect of the old-school goalie pads and helmets, I'm really wanting to go back and redo every team and add them to Franchise. It would take an eternity but you could actually build a decent 90's-era throwback franchise. If only we could enable the Two Line Pass rule.

I've got started on five teams so far, but I haven't tried to replace any of them in Franchise yet. I'm also curious what the limit is.

Since there's no file sharing, a separate team formula thread would probably be helpful for those who want to recreate these teams. There are some roadblocks, like not being able to add the fleur di lis to the Nordiques jerseys. It's a shame since those jerseys are actually in the game, it would be great if EA would just let us use the unis we want to use without rebuilding everything. For now, I'm just studying old photos and videos and trying to get as close as I can.

For the arenas, just remove all of the modern stuff, go with classic goal lamps and horns, organ music, etc. The seats usually weren't team-specific, for example I think the Hartford Civic Center had some red seats.

Speaking of red, I couldn't seem to get rid of that red stripe on the Whalers' socks. Hopefully I was missing something or they get that fixed, that kinda stuff bums me out.

It's just Faulk and it's tape. Go in and edit him and switch the tape to green or remove it. The other thing you'll find with the Hurricanes/Whalers switch is a ton of players have red tape on the top of their sticks.

I made some new versions of old teams, and some new teams that, well are just new.

Im still working on details for each of the teams, but I will send out some pictures when I got the right style and designs for each.
Im sure they all will look pretty terrible!

Right now Im working on a renewed Nordiques, most likely replacing either the blues or the preds (since the colors are blue and gold).

This is actually taken from the Quebec City flag as an inspiration. Im using the Ship as primary, a ships wheel as secondary and the original Nordiques logo as a tertiary logo (colors marine, gold and white)
I will show it off when I got the design down.

Not a shocker: Arizona had their final season. Seattle is getting a team this season. Who or what is still in the mix.
Im considering either the silly "Sea Dogs", The dramatic "Thunder" or the not so typical "Wolves".
Colors are a bit uncertain, but most likely Green as a main. Either Yellow or dark blue as secondary (I want to copy those magnificent Utica alternate unis, but maybe for another team?)

Blue jackets or Panthers (haven't quite decided) will be moved. Either to Halifax or to New Orleans! I know, crazy stuff is going on!
I had a mad idea to make the New Orleans Ice Tigers sporting Purple and gold. Using LSU as color inspiration. The issue is finding good hockey masks for such a team so it is still a bit WIP

Atlanta is taking over for Carolina. WIP. Pictures soon to come.

Sidenote: Anyone noticed there is no "Nordiques" play by play name? It could be just me since I have none of the tuners installed. So for now the closest you get is the "no dekes" lol

Good news. Tonight I created 17 custom teams and put them all into Franchise. I could have done more but I was running out of time.

So yeah, it looks as though every NHL team in Franchise can be replaced with a custom team. No idea about players yet.
