Buying on Amazon

I've got a $50 gift card and was planning on ordering NHL 18, but the download code states that it's not playable until 9/25.

Has anyone ever bought a game this way? Why is the game not playable for 10 days?

Yeah I have no idea why the physical copy is also not available now. I purchased tonight at a Gamestop. Unfortunate since I buy most games on Amazon now and receive a discount.
